Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 hits 78.2 million units, 9.9 million units shipped in FY13

Microsoft has announced its financial results for FY 2013 and the Entertainment and Devices division is doing pretty well. They have managed to ship 9.9 million 360 units for fiscal year 2013.

Their official statement can be found below:

Entertainment and Devices Division grew 8% for the fourth quarter and 6% for the full year. During the quarter, transactional revenue within Xbox LIVE grew nearly 20%, and we unveiled our next-generation gaming and entertainment console, Xbox One.

EDD revenue increased $134 million, or 8%, primarily due to higher Windows Phone revenue, offset in part by lower Xbox 360 platform revenue.

Windows Phone revenue, reflecting patent licensing revenue and sales of Windows Phone licenses, increased $222 million.

We shipped 1.0 million Xbox 360 consoles compared to 1.1 million during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2012.

EDD operating income increased $142 million, due mainly to higher revenue.

The company as a whole generated revenues of $77 billion, and the operating income increased by 23% to $26 billion.

Microsoft earlier pointed out that Xbox One pre-orders were doing really well and has already eclipsed Xbox 360′s pre-order numbers at the same stage.

Does anyone know when we're gonna get the PS3 numbers?

Or maybe you can give your analysis about these shipped numbers from Microsoft vs. what we have here on VGChartz for now?

Yes, all three won in some area. Wii in the profits it made Nintendo, 360 in the marketshare it gained Microsoft and PS3 in all the great games it brought us. Nice generation it was. Although i liked the 6th gen a little better, but that's because shooters were not everywhere :S

Given lack of price cuts, 10 million shipped is a very good number. It may just overtake Wii in a few years if price cut properly.

But in the end, 360 outperformed all our expectations. Its also now in full profit mode, now working towards reaping back Xbox 1 losses.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Price cuts are not going to happen that often anymore. Once, maybe twice in the lifetime of a console from now on. It seems Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have learned this from looking at Apple's model.

Only 400k on shelves? Seems very low. 360 overtracked by at the very least several hundred k.
According to vgc, 360 has outsold it's total shipments from march by 700k, which is very doubtful.

Looks like 360 has been undertracked in july-sep 2012 and overtracked afterwards.

Wil be interesting to see what sony says it has shipped and sold.

Pretty amazing that they will sell over 80 million when you consider it had the worst start of all 3 consoles this gen and the performance of the Xbox last gen.

Not necessarily.  Weakening the supply chain ready for the new slimmer model. I expect sully for all consoles to fall dramatically now as retailers start to turn attnetion away.  There is simply no readon to hold large stock any more, weekly sell through is poor.

Sony wont help.  They never tell us discrete shipments now for ps3 v ps2 and they have never told us what has been sold through.

 

I guess that's true, but 400k is the least amount ms has ever had in the supply chain, even when they launched a slim model.

It's not that there's no reason to hold large stock...it's that there are just so many places that carry 360s worldwide. Just BB,Walmart,Target,Sears, Gamestop have ~20k+ stores.... 1500 bj,costco,sams. This barely covers how many retailers and bigbox stores actually carry products.

If 400k is true, it would mean less than 3 boxes per store, because if distributor warehouses were empty or low, they would have ordered more...or we would have seen news of shortages.

Well, 360 has only had 2 official price cuts, last on in 2008.

After X1 releases...its gonna be a hard sell for the $399 250 gig 360 kinect bundle lol. Even the standard $299 360/$299 4gb Kinect bundle will need a drop in 2014 and beyond.

If you swear by VGC numbers.. yes.

Isnt this the reverse argument for when I used to maintain the ps3 was overtracked and 360 under though?  people would shoot me down then at a time when supply neede to be much higher.

Funny how things change.

I say the number is reasonable or perhaps a 100k to 150k off at most.

PS3 will be that much off too. They are both overtracked in Europe imo. 

What's funny is that you've recently been complaining about sideswiping, and yet you can't seem to hold yourself back from doing the same.

500k in stock is pretty low, considering MS has never been below 1m in June. Yes it's possible that it's that low, but we also haven't seen the sales that should bring it there. NPD shows down. Mediacreate shows down. Japan down. The numbers don't make sense for 100k.

And yes, ps3 is likely also down, but I don't think as much primarily due to software support.
Either way, it's peanuts. The real homestretch will be this holiday.
