Forums - Sales - "Sony cut the PS3 price twice" line is getting old... Read and find out why

November 2006: PS3 Pricing scheme: High End: $600 Low end: $500
November 2007: PS3 Pricing scheme: High End: $500 Low end: $400

Now let's do the math. 600-500=100 for the high end model
and 500-400=100 for the low end model

Sony has dropped the price of the PS3 100 for two separate models but not all on one model.

@ elnino1334

I didn't say it wasn't done because of the other consoles, any idiot knows that. I was saying how it is really only one price drop, as the price from the two skus is only $100 different from last year, because of the lower price of the forty gig.

Sony did drop the price of the sixty gig in June but the pricing scheme was still $600/ $500

It was only until recent that the pricing scheme went to $500/$400. There was a price cut on two models, but the pricing scheme has only changed a hundred dollars.

MS did one price cut across all the models at the same time, Sony did two price cuts with months between each other... you can try to spin it whatever you want, but thats two price cuts... vs one...

So, by your logic the 360 Arcade also qualifies as a price cut. Both the 40Gb and the 360 Arcade are new SKUs, they are not price cuts. Both the PS3 60Gb and the 80Gb got a $100 price cut. But the 20Gb and the 40Gb never got a price cut.

Also, the bundle with 2 games is in theory a $60-100 price cut too...

Anyway, who cares how many price cuts Sony did? What really matters is that they are back in the race with some good momentum and a nice line up for 2008. Also don't forget the PS3 was launched at a ridiculous price and had to come down faster than the 360 or the Wii.

Where in my small post did I made mention the 40Gb as a price cut???

I'm just talking about the two price cuts of the 80 and 60 Gb models, as two $100 price cuts separated for months...

And just one price cut for all the 360 models at the same time...

By me:

"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Don't blame sony for lowering production costs and being able to slash prices. After all everyone was saying "OMG SONY DID ANOTHER PRICE CUT AND IS GONNA GO DEEPER INTO THE RED BECUASE THEY ARE LOOSING MORE PER CONSOLE NOW!"

So can I claim that the PS3 has had one upgrade (60GB-80GB) and one price drop (80GB) and make everyone happy?

It doesn't really matter how many price cuts there were. In the end, the price has dropped $100 with a re-shuffling of the included features.

Thanks DKII that's all I've been trying to say.

@ Rath

That'd work for me too.

well, i thought price drops included multiple skus

You weren't trying to say what DKII said at all >_> You were trying to get everyone to agree that there was one price cut, while DKII made a compromise..

But they did cut the price twice.

Ladies and gentlemen, the classic PS3 bashing argument. No facts, just a statement.

We should keep track of them and see if we get more of these statements than 360's sold this year. I think it would be fun.
