Zoo Tycoon: Bringing a Nostalgic Franchise into Next-Gen

btw, how is Zoo Tycoon for the people who has played it? It looks good, specially after the update. But not sure. Viva Pinata is my fav sim for comparisons.

Update? What update? It's a great game but not worth the price right now, Lack of animal variety imo, Not many birds just some macaws, No sea animals or any water animals, Lack of building space (Will probably be updated soon) Building isn't very detailed neither are smaller animal exhibits

The animals looks awesome though and it's pretty addictive, Campaign levels are pretty cool but easy

You should wait for a price drop, By then they will hopefully add more animal species, More building space and other random things Lol, I liked the game allot but haven't felt like going back to it for a while now since I've pretty much done everything and I can't max the game out due to a glitched acheivement

The first update.  A lot of the reivews was before the first update on day one.

And ok, cool.  Maybe itll end up being free with gold :)

Im fine with them building their own studios personally. They are unproven for the time being but if they bring in the talent like they did with 343i then im fine with it. Black Tusk seems to be similar with bringing in talent and idk much about the other new studios so i cant say anything about them.

LA studios may be the most interesting one though. At first it seemed they were just going to do show/movies like the Halo project with spielberg, but working with Remedy to do Quantum Break was really exciting. If it pans out to be good they could be a great interactive story dev. Of course they will have to rely on other studios to do gameplay but they can make great stories im hoping.

Though i would like to see them get Remedy.  They seem to have a good relationship with each other.

I appreciate Spencer's and Microsoft's approach. Sure, I wish that say Remedy was owned by MS, but at the same time, you don't want to just purchase a studio only to have those people discontent in that situation and move elsewhere, leaving you with little more than the studio's name. Better to support them financially or otherwise when opportunity presents itself (like they are doing with Remedy for Quantum Break now) to gain exclusives, and then build up your own studios from the ground up to make sure that the people working for you genuinely want to be working for you, and not just kind of forced into it.

Oh I didn't know that about La Studios, So they are owned by Microsoft but what are they doing? So La Studios make the story while other studios will make the gameplay for them is what your saying? If they turn out as great as Remedy with stories then great =P They could easily turn that into a game dev studio and just hire people for gameplay

Microsoft LA Studios and Remedy are collaborating on Quantum Break.  This is why it is considered a first party game and is owned by MSFT.  And yeah they could hire some game people if they want as time goes on.

Next post will talk about MSFT LA Studios.  Was Posted February 2013

Microsoft Has Built An Interactive Video Production Studio In LA, With M Than 150 Employees

Netflix’s ‘House Of Cards’ Is Internet TV-Funded Original Programming But Don’t Kid Yourself It’s Ad-Free (Spoiler Ale

Today at the D: Dive Into Media conference, representatives from Microsoft provided more details on its new video production studio, which will provide a whole new level of interactivity for viewers. Nancy Tellem, Corporate VP of Microsoft’s L.A. Studios, said that the company has already hired 150 employees in its Santa Monica studio in L.A. That’s a huge commitment to creating a whole new type of content for its Xbox game console.

Tellem joined Microsoft last year to head up its new content efforts. In addition to the usual broadcast-like TV content, Tellem said that the company will be investing heavily in interactive content, as it can leverage products like Xbox Kinect to allow users to provide new ways for viewers to play with stuff on the screen. “We’re in a unique position to produce content with a much higher level of interactivity,” Tellem said.

Yusuf Mehdi, SVP of Interactive Entertainment at Microsoft, said the company has sold well over 75 million consoles worldwide, and Xbox Live has more than 46 million subscribers. Users spend an average of 87 hours on the Xbox per month, with the majority of that being non-game content. While the user base is still primarily male, Mehdi said 38 percent of its users are women, and 51 percent are people with kids.

Tellem sees that type of content being particularly attractive to younger viewers using the console. “Everyone is very different, particularly when you look at the younger demo,” Tellem said. “Interactivity is a natural extension of what they do.” While the company plans to make its content available through its Xbox Live service, it will also look to monetize that content through ads.

One thing that Microsoft is not interested in doing is becoming a cable competitor by building bundles of content. Part of that is about being friendly to content companies and distributors that deliver video over its devices. Part of it is also not feeling like it can provide real value by being a virtual cable provider.

The news comes as rumors have swirled around the next-generation Xbox, which is expected to be called the Xbox 720. Those include the belief that the new Xbox will have always-on DRM, which will destroy the used-game market. Also, the revelation that the next-gen game console will require Xbox Kinect to work. But Mehdi wouldn’t comment on the company’s plans for the next-gen box.
