I'm not referring to the quality of games or the number of games on each system, but rather the sales of each genre. Take CoD: AW for example, the PS4 version sold 1.48x better. And NBA 2K15 for example, the PS4 version sold 1.5x better. Now compare that to an RPG, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, the PS4 version sold 2.23x better. And an action-adventure game such as Shadow of Mordor, the PS4 version sold 2.21x better. And a racing game such as The Crew, the PS4 version sold 2.85x better. The two genres where Xbox One is closest to PS4 in sales are shooter and sports, the numbers back that up. What does that tell you about the fanbase makeup of Xbox? It tells me that the dudebro crowd is indeed a large factor in Xbox's success so far. That's not a bad thing, but Xbox has the potential to appeal to fanbases other than the dudebros imo, MS just needs to aim more of their marketing and development at other genres.
Who knows, maybe them dropping the CoD deal this year (if the rumors are true) will signify a change in their marketing direction.

To be 100% honest you kind of prove my point, with 8 million more ps4's than XB1, you would be hard pressed to find multiplats that more than 2 million more on ps4 (they are some but very few) That is a testiment to the attach rates for XB1. Also there have been more XB1 exclusive games to purchase over the competition, for example ps4 doesn't have a racer hence the difference in the crew sales. I think XB! software sales have held up really well in all genres.
Edit: We have moved on, good stuff!
