Phil Spencer hopes to bring exclusive Xbox One games to Japan

When it comes to Japan, the Xbox brand has more than a little catching up to do if it wants to compete with Nintendo and Sony, but Microsoft is confident that its newest console can be a contender. 

“Actually, we’d like to work in tandem with Japanese developers to produce exclusive Xbox One titles for the Japan market,” said Phil Spencer in a recent interview with Famitsu. ”I think we’ll be announcing these titles once the Xbox One release date draws closer. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on the Xbox 360 were wonderful experiences, and I’m looking forward to forming partnerships with new developers for this system as well.”

With the Xbox 360′s rather abysmal history in Japan, obviously not everybody’s convinced, but Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune thinks the Xbox One has a real shot if marketed correctly. ”Just because it’s Microsoft… I wouldn’t want to count a company out, even if they haven’t had a great track record. It doesn’t mean they automatically fail the next time,” Inafune stated back in September. In order for the Xbox One to succeed in Japan, he believes it will come down to marketing and being able to convince consumers that the console offers suitable content.

Let’s just hope the Xbox One’s Japanese marketing campaigns are a little bit more effective than its initial reveal and subsequent E3 blunders here in the states.
