So I just read an article that states Albert Penello apparently confirmed on GAF that voice controls on X1 are region locked. Wtf kind of bullshit is that? MS is trying to tell me that if I wanna use english voice commands here in Germany I have to import the console from the UK or US? Wtf kind of sense does that make?

What on earth is the point of region locking that shit? Why can't it just boot up and ask me which of the available languages that it supports already I wanna use?

It is because accents likely.  If Kinect can't understand what they say it won't work and then the people using it will think it doesn't work as advertised.

As if there were no huge accent differences even within a country. There are even foreign people living in germany who cannot speak any german. There are tons of people here (Frankfurt) actually since the Euro zone got into trouble. Have fun with your Kinect fellas!

I'm also kinda getting tired of that region locking bullshit that's going on more and more. Globalization my ass. Gaming developers seem to prefer protectionism, so back to the 19th century it is. It just shows how stupidly backwards orientated the gaming industry still is in some areas.

Seriously though I'm not sure why that is region locked, maybe if enough people speak up they'll change it (or we'll at least get reasoning).

Who knows, that is my only guess for it.  Itll likely be changed at some point, or I'd hope so at least.

Just curious: Why use XBO for Xbox Nation? You could go ahead and just say Xbox Nation. But why XBO? Unless it's a concern over using excessive printer ink. I'm mean, I'm down with the whole green initiative, I get that. But XBO? (just add an x, it makes it xbox anyways)
