I'm not sure about layoffs, but Square Enix has said that Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, and Hitman Absolution all failed to meet their sales expectations (though they later said that Tomb Raider had finally broken even over it's budget after Holiday 2013 sales). Seems like they're allowing the budgets to get too high, if your games are selling 2m or more lifetime and they're still not breaking even then you're spending way too much on them. |
That sounds like a problem with Square and not the devs. Funny thing is, the devs said they were very happy with what tomb raider was selling, yet Square wasnt. SOunds like they were profiting, but not enough profit for Square.
