Forums - Nintendo - Quick Question - Why do people think Paper Mario: Sticker Star is terrible?

Cold-Flipper said:
People on here are "core" and don't like the whole sticker element. Plus, it takes away some of its RPG parts.

IMO, Sticker Star is much better than the overly-praised TTYD. I would definitely recommend it but it depends what you like. The only con I see is that the bosses are very difficult unless you have the right sticker so it kind of makes it more like "you can't win unless you find this".

It's still an excellent game, and my 2nd favorite on 3DS behind New Leaf.

I understand that is your opinion but you like it more than Kindgom Hearts: DDD, RE: Revelations, Mario Kart 7/  Super Mario 3D Land ?!?!?!?

because it dared to be different and break with series´ conventions

How'd it do that exactly?

no partner, story and level system, world map with stages

...honestly: It is my least favourite PM, but people are far too harsh, SS really isn´t a bad game by any means....it is just...not as good as 64 !

The soundtrack and graphics in particular are amazing...the rest...not so much :/

I don't care about the missing RPG elements. I just want to adventure and collect a little bit. I guess I can't get wrong here :)

And by not playing the first 3 games I will not be biased against it I guess.

If you just want a fun & entertaining game than Sticker Star should be able to do that for you. I don't want to oversell it because it isn't for everybody as you can see in this thread but I really enjoyed it. I'm also more of a "casual" gamer though so others might laugh but I didn't find it to be "dumbed down" or simple. I still had trouble with certain parts and got my $'s worth. It took me about 29 hours to beat the game and wasn't board at all.

IMO, the N64 game is the best by far but SS is 2nd, followed by Super PM, and last is the over-praised GC version. Again, it depends what you want from it but if you just want a fun game, SS works fine.

Out of the games you listed, I can only fairly judge MK7. Yes, I like SS much more. I own Revelations but haven't played it much yet. I might buy 3D Land eventually but don't have it yet. KH doesn't interest me at all.

But that doesn't really make the game different, as the core gameplay and progression are still mostly the same as in the original 2 PMs. Sticker Star is just what you get when take TTYD and rip out all the RPG elements. I'd think taking stuff out of a game like that could only make it worse. Funny thing is Super Paper Mario was actually the daring one in the series, yet it still has more in common with TTYD than SS does.

The main differences have been covered, but I still feel compelled to share my opinion...
The absence of RPG elements probably won't bother you if you haven't played the previous installments...
I'm enjoying it myself, but it's far from perfect...
I prefer the first two, but it's definitely miles ahead of Super Paper Mario...

Have a nice day...

compared to the other Paper Mario games, it sucks. as a stand alone game in general? it's a good game. just don't compare it to the other Paper Marios and you'll like it

Nonsense! SPM actually has a story and fighting isn't completely pointless!

SPM is my favorite in the series :P

It was my first Paper Mario.. and from what I gather.. it is missing a lot of what makes Paper Mario Great.. as thus it gets hate.. (No stats.. people wondering why you should do random encounters.. or well encounters at all seeing as to how the rewards are just coins.. and maybe the occasional sticker..some people say just skip to the boss if you can and be done with it) There are stickers everywhere in the game.. you usually run out of space in your album.. and sometimes you find stickers that are completely worthless.. which means you have to waste em.. or run back to the shop and sell them.. all in all.. when I first played this.. I could not figure out what the Hype was about Paper Mario.. (I knew nothing of it.. and thought what the heck.. let's give it a try after reading how great the series was) It's not a bad game per say... but it's not a must have or classic either... from 0-5.. (0 being burn all copies, 1 being poor, 2 being average, 3 being good, 4 very good, 5 classic) I give it a 3 it's not terrible.. or bad it's just not great.. or from what i read.. what a lot of people expected/wanted.. in a Paper Mario..

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

I like it a lot too! Best story ever for a Mario game imo! All it needed was a more robust battle system, a.k.a. turn based, and it woulda been my favorite in the series, heck maybe even the best overall. To bad we'll never know. =/
