This was obviously going to happen, the reason the 360 did so well in north America was it's price

Yeah I think launch sales will certainly favor PS4, although that may be mainly due to supply issues with Xbox One. I think that supply issue will hurt it though. The console that sells the most will get the most word of mouth through internet articles, social media and of course real life conversations. Here's hoping Sony takes advantage of Microsofts supply constraints and PS4 not only has a successful launch but a successful first year.

I do think supply will play a part right after launch.  However, it doesn't seem to be playing that big of one, yet.  I mean the PS4 launch bundle was sold out within a day or two on Amazon, while the Xbox One just sold out this past Wednesday.  Even with limited supply, the Xbox One is still available at Gamestop, while the PS4 (which according to the memo has much greater supply) is already sold out online.  I think MS has hurt themselves more than they, and their fans, will admit.  Plus, the $100 difference doesn't help.

This is a bit inaccurate.

The Xbox One and PS4 launch/day one editions have sold out on Amazon multiple times, because they would get a higher allotment and re-open them. At least that is what happened with the Xbox One day one edition.

Up until today, the Xbox One Day 1 Edition was vastly outpacing the PS4, and was at the top 1-5 spots for several weeks. It appears to have dropped sharply after they sold out this last time.

Xbox One's have been "sold out" at Gamestop stores for ages now. Only online orders have been available. While the PS4 just recently sold out of stores/online. I do not know why the Xbox One would still be available online and the PS4 wouldn't. Perhaps MS still haven't given firm allotment numbers/production estimates.

No, I'm pretty sure that's games. And features. And word of mouth/friends have it. Price is one of the more minor factors to be honest.

the ps3 and 360 are pretty much identical, so the deciding factor.. is the price :)

Nope, that would be features, word of mouth, and games :)

Their price has been nearly identical for the past 4-5 years (since MS has not cut the price while the PS3 still has).

Gonna buy both but based on fb/twitter my friends who are usually Xbox fans are switching over to playstation. It's gonna be neck and neck because I really see the kinect and tv features to be a big sell to the casuals in the United States.

now can we finally stop with all these pre-order threads?

Maybe.  Or you could stop opening those threads.

The PS4 will outsell the PS2.

I don't think so...the ps2 had an amazing library of exclusives like MGS, FF, DMC, etc. that the gamecube and xbox did not have. This time is different

since the big franchises are multiplatform. The ps4 will do very well but not as well as ps1 or ps2.
