Since a new generation of consoles and IPs are just around the corner I decided to have a look at how some of this gens new IPs sold in their first iteration. Starting with PS3 exclusives, the top 4 new IPs were LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, Resistance, and MotorStorm. Looking at the graph you can clearly see of all the first games in these series LittleBigPlanet actually takes the top spot being the only one currently over 5 million sold! Bringing up the rear is MotorStorm which actually for a time (launches aligned) was the second highest selling new IP. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which is 2nd highest currently was actually in dead last for nearly 2 years (launches aligned). Resistance, which sits 3rd, has consistantly stayed in 3rd from the start sitting on 4.16 million units sold.
Of all the New IPs listed, only one has not hit 4 million sold that being MotorStorm. Also the only series that has seen growth over the generation is Uncharted with the second game hitting over 6 million units sold and the 3rd right on it's heels. Motorstorm has all but disapeared with it's last interation selling less than half a million copies.
So of these 4 series, which one is your favorite? Mine would be LittleBigPlanet mostly because I love platformers.
