Forums - Microsoft - Fez XBLA patch finally in the works, confirms dev

CVG

Speaking via Twitter today, Fish announced, "Good news everyone: We're going to patch FEZ on XBLA!"

This comes in the wake of reports that Microsoft has changed its policies regarding Xbox game updates, removing charges and limitations that had previously hindered developers.

In July last year, Phil Fish's indie studio Polytron declared it would not release a new patch for the XBLA version of Fez due to what it deemed exorbitant costs.

The game featured a critical bug that can corrupt save files - but the Canada studio responsible for the errors claimed that Microsoft is charging too much for fixes to the game.

"Microsoft would charge us tens of thousands of dollars to re-certify the game," read a statement from the studio.

But according to recent reports, which were today backed up by Insomniac Games boss Ted Price, Microsoft has lifted its policy of charging developers a sizeable sum for releasing game patches.

Fish offered no date for the Fez patch, only saying, "It's going to take a few months, though. But we're doing it!"
