Forums - Sales - 17 questions about Piracy

Please lets keep this civil.

I just got a conversation about this, and I don't know why this topic turns into something like religion or politics. Sure I have my opinion on the topic but I come here mainly with questions.

1) Do you live in a country considered to be of the "first world"?

2) Do you think Piracy is 100% evil?

3) If you do not consider Piracy to be pure evil, can you explain what would be the good side of it?

4) Do you think Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are not making enough money?

5) Suppose a developer or a videogame publisher goes bankrupt (just like in any other business), do you feel guilty because you didn't buy enough original games from them?

6) Do you think that all people who use Piracy to play videogames could perfectly pay full retail price but they just decided not to do so?

7) Do you think that for every illegal copy made of a game publishers dont sell one original game?

8) Would you agree with me if I said that I have 50 illegal copies of different games is because I just chose not no pay full price of 50 different original games?

9) So... that is basically how publishers calculate how much money they would have made if people had no options but to buy originals, right?

10) So If I am plannig on getting around 50 pirated games within the next 12 months but somehow the industry finds out a way to completely stop piracy I will end up paying full price for those games 50 games and the Industry will instantly make more money, right?

11) What would be good about a world 100% free of Piracy?

12) You are a gamer, right? So you love videogames, but imagine a world where games are very expensive. Lets say 200 dollars for a videogame. Would you do no matter what to get them? Would you still be a gamer? Would you still buy the same amount af games?

13) In the third world hardware is sold basically because it is fully hacked now and people can easyly play illegal copies, do you agree with this?

14) Do Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo look the other way because the keep producing last gen hardware to be sold in the third world knowing that it will be used to play pirated games?

15) Do you really think that piracy is a threat to the very existance of movies, books, music and finally videogames? (Last time I checked I still can buy any of those)

16) How can this be personal? I mean, you only buy originals... good for you! But how can Piracy stop you from fully enjoy your hobbie?

17) And finally... If you DO NOT consider Piracy to  be 100% pure evil, can you explain what would be the good side of it?

Thanks for answering!

Lol! No, why?

1. I live in the USA. So, no.
2. Yes.
3. ---
4. I think, for any company that makes/owns their own content, they should reap the awards. So my answer is no, to put it simple. (Since those are the answers afforded.)
5. No. There are many factors why any company could go bankrupt.
6. No. But I do think that saving is something everyone can do. And should.
7. Depends on what IP we are talking about. Call of Duty? Possible. A niche RPG? No.
8. Depends. I don't know you and your situation. Although, I would say most likely.
9. ???
10. No. I don't think you will buy all 50 games, but there is a possibility that you could buy a few of those. And that's all that the gaming industry is shooting for, I would guess.
11. The profit and consideration of the IP will go to it's rightful owner.
12. I wouldn't buy the same amount of games. But I still wouldn't pirate them. (And I would think that if the cost of games goes up so much, the cost of living would also rise. Possibly meaning that overall salary has risen equating to an equal market of what we have now. High prices/High salary.)
13. No.
14. Quite possibly.
15. In some instances. Certain games, movies, etc. are pirated so much that it would make a difference.
16. Who said it was personal? I just think it's ridiculous.
17. ---

That's it that's all! That's as good as I can give you.

"Please answer my detailed, survey-like 17 questions just to satisfy my curiosity" seems unlikely

Lol!

1) Do you live in a country considered to be of the "first world"?

Yes.

2) Do you think Piracy is 100% evil?

No.

3) If you do not consider Piracy to be pure evil, can you explain what would be the good side of it?

If not abused (which unfortunately is the case 99% of the time), it can function as a free trial to make people consider content that may be a financial risk to pay full price for. Later, after confirming that the product would be worth the money, the "pirate" may pay full price for an actual copy to support the makers. If the product does not seem to be worth the money, the product will be deleted while the makers have lost nothing since you would not have risked buying the product anyway.

Not sure if it counts, but piracy can also be used to create copies of things that you have paid for. I don't see anything inherently evil about that.

4) Do you think Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are not making enough money?

Sony if anything. But I really don't know.

5) Suppose a developer or a videogame publisher goes bankrupt (just like in any other business), do you feel guilty because you didn't buy enough original games from them?

No. It is the company's fault for not creating content worth paying for. (Those who do abuse piracy should feel guilty though.)

6) Do you think that all people who use Piracy to play videogames could perfectly pay full retail price but they just decided not to do so?

No.

7) Do you think that for every illegal copy made of a game publishers dont sell one original game?

Definitely not. As I said before, many would not have considered buying the games if they costed money. In these cases the producers gain publicity and loses nothing.

8) Would you agree with me if I said that I have 50 illegal copies of different games is because I just chose not no pay full price of 50 different original games?

That depends on who you are.

9) So... that is basically how publishers calculate how much money they would have made if people had no options but to buy originals, right?

Huh?

10) So If I am plannig on getting around 50 pirated games within the next 12 months but somehow the industry finds out a way to completely stop piracy I will end up paying full price for those games 50 games and the Industry will instantly make more money, right?

No.

11) What would be good about a world 100% free of Piracy?

Biased question. Next.

12) You are a gamer, right? So you love videogames, but imagine a world where games are very expensive. Lets say 200 dollars for a videogame. Would you do no matter what to get them? Would you still be a gamer? Would you still buy the same amount af games?

I would be even more selective than I am now. Only games worth $200 would be purchased.

13) In the third world hardware is sold basically because it is fully hacked now and people can easyly play illegal copies, do you agree with this?

Too many variables. But I agree that this is basically the case.

14) Do Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo look the other way because the keep producing last gen hardware to be sold in the third world knowing that it will be used to play pirated games?

I don't know. Ask them.

15) Do you really think that piracy is a threat to the very existance of movies, books, music and finally videogames? (Last time I checked I still can buy any of those)

Potentially, yes. If the abuse becomes too widespread and people stop rewarding the producers.

16) How can this be personal? I mean, you only buy originals... good for you! But how can Piracy stop you from fully enjoy your hobbie?

See my answer above.

17) And finally... If you DO NOT consider Piracy to  be 100% pure evil, can you explain what would be the good side of it?

This is the same as question 3. You'll need to proofread your future surveys.

Eh, sure, here goes

  1. No
  2. No
  3. For me, it allowed me to actually play games, because I've never would've been able otherwise
  4. I haven't seen their fiscal reports to answer that
  5. No
  6. No
  7. Fuck no
  8. If you told me you had all the spare money to buy all those 50 different games and you would've bought them...maybe
  9. If they did that, they're idiots
  10. If you bought them all, sure...but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't
  11. Hmmm...more ninjas?
  12. Well, I have a ton of books in my bookshelf that could use a read, and that would be cheaper :-p
  13. No, disagree. I live in a third world country and have a completely unhacked PS3 with all original (some used, though) games. And I know a lot of people like me here.
  14. Yes, of course. PS2 was massively pirated, but all of us who enjoyed playing all the games grew up, found jobs and now paid for their (extremely overpriced) PS3 games
  15. No, no and no
  16. Hasn't stopped me
  17. See answer 2

Ugh, it has numbers instead of bullets when I edit, why does it have bullets when I post?

Sorry, questions 3 and 17 are repeated
