Forums - PC Discussion - NVIDIA to Acquire AGEIA

Hmm, if Nvidia start including the tech in their graphics cards it could solve the chicken/egg problem dedicated graphics chips have had in the past. ie. no-one buys the cards because of a lack of supporting software/ no-one writes supporting software 'cause no-one has bought the cards

Epic did, and there are quite a few free games available for free that are awesome.

No ssj12, they won't. The 9800GX2 is just two 8800 cards duct taped together. Nothing new.

you are clueless arent you? they have previews of the new architecture in the 8800GT asnd 8800GTS (G92-400)

the 9800GX2 is running on the newer G92-450 architexture which can handle DX10.1 and more advanced sharders. Plus its said that the cores will be 55nm so there is less heat so they are clocked way higher then the 8800Ultra.

I seem to notice that you have a hard time detecting sarcasm ssj12.

actaully what fazz said isnt thats the typical argument on what the 9800GX2 is because its similar to the 7950GX2 which was two 7900s glued together with an SLi chip between them. At least this time with the 9800GX2 this isnt the case, there are differences.

Interesting. I always thought about buying a physx card, but never really thought it would be that useful.

Physics stuff is already offloaded onto the GPU as it is, but this will likely mean a continued push further in that direction.

I am pretty sure I called this on this site a while back btw, not that it was hard to see coming it makes a lot of sense.

To Each Man, Responsibility

That's always good... i wonder how much they payed for the company.

Well, you got me there, I didn't knew that... but I've read previews that claim a 30% increase of performance over Ultra. Thought I haven't checked it that much ;>

Will this be integrated into the GPU, or will it switch one GPU into PPU mode, like the ATI crossfire setup with 2/3 Radeon cards?

I don't know, this doesn't make much so sense for me, ok, Ageia's back up plan was to get bought by some big player, but, since the havoc engine was bought by Intel (Killing any GPU physics project at that time), Ageia doesn't fit to much in the big pic...

Ok, nVidia has more presence than Ageia, sells more cards, etc, but again is nVidia vs intel (physx vs havoc), I don't know, is a big fight trying to convince the devs to switch to ageia and then make a good card with the ageia chip in it, make it affordable, power efficiency, etc...
