Your politicians still have a lot to do to catch up.
In Spain taxes are discussed before elections. Here a party that said they'll lower taxes was elected, and after they got power they raised them.

Not like most of them can afford video games though
Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030
It would be a good move for the Brasil economy and the gamers to make a deal between the government and Sony/Microsoft.
Any console manufactured in Brasil gets taxed for like 19 percent, any console manufactured outside gets taxed the 70 percent like before.
-> Sony/MS would be forced to produce in brasil, and i think the brasil market has the potential to grow rapidly, and it would be a keymarket to the south american countries
-> Jobs
-> more sales, more tax income
so now it is Sony or Microsofts move to do some lobbyism and open that new market. i think it would be worth the effort. the first who enters the market would gain massive advance there...

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:
WiiU: Donkey Kong
XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Around R$ 6,00 a pack, which is roughly 3 U$D.

That is what Sony is trying to do right now, they are all over the Congress trying to get some revision on the video game taxes. I am afraid they are not going to win this one.

The thing is: we don´t give a shit here. If we really want a console, we freaking buy it with a payment plan or something, and then work our asses to pay it.
I had a friend who made around 300 U$D a month, really poor kid. He bought a PS3 for U$D 600 and payed selling ice cream and chocolates door to door while working at weekends in a autoshop, besides his regular job.
Pretty brave kid, kinda dumb, but a brave one.
I gave him a couple of my games out of simpathy, Mercenaires 2 and Tomb Raider Underworld.
Yeah same here in north africa, we have a potential audience for video games, we have multiple stores but everyone just goes import or someone just buy many consoles abroad and sell it for a higher price here. This concerns IT, cars,.. Our governements still think these objects are only for upper-social class.

Yes, just like here, it seems the laws are in a struggle to keep up with reality in Africa too =/
It´s not just about videogames... it´s about almost everything.... from air tickets to fruits and sneakers. Everything tech-related is very expensive in Brazil, computers, cell phones, game consoles....
It´s no wonder why Brazilians lately are so angry with their government and are doing lots and lots of protests. Too many taxes and zero investment in infrasctructure, social services and State modernization.
