Grandia! Good choice sir.

Persona 4 was not in my list but P4:Golden, which I'm playing now, is absolutely wonderful.

Unique! Not many people have played the Grandia/Breat of Fire series. I just got a couple games in each series, played a bit of all of them, really liked the mechanics of Breath of Fire. These are on my TDL, but a bit down as I want to finish everything 7th gen first. I might play BoF3 for PSP soon though.

Grandia II (DC/PS2) and Breath of Fire IV (PS1) are the pinnacles of each series and my favorite RPGs

Good thing I own the Dreamcast version of Grandia 2

Breath of Fire IV is low on my TDL mainly because I want to play Front Mission 3 and XenoGears on PS1 first, but BoF III, I could play soon. I'll bump it up on my TDL for PSP games to beat at work.

top 5:

1. Terranigma
2. Xenoblade chronicles
3. Grandia
4. Final fantasy 8
5. Chrono cross/trigger

Is terranigma too old? I thought it was sublime. Great story and the music!! WOW. Listen to  the theme from the underworld of terranigma on youtube.

Dude I would flip for any of those if they were made, considering they are done justice!

The original figurehead  at Game Arts passed away a year or so ago. Pretty sad. I think he was in his forties.

- Here's to hoping they continue the series at some point and make the story better than Gradnia Xtreme. (Though that battle system was on point)

Sad to hear that, not sure what they are doing right now over there to be honest.

At this point I would take another dungeon crawler like Grandia Xtreme if I could just have the best battle system ever devised again.  Seriously, why has nobody just ripped it off at this point?

Parasite Eve
Xenogears
Vagrant Story
Star Ocean 1,2,3 (god i am so struggling with 4... i keep on putting it down)
Final Fantasy (preferably 7,8,9 and X)
Shadow Hearts (1 was unique, 2 was awesome)
Xenosaga (Gnosis ftw!)
Wild Arms 3
Arc the Lad tots
Lunar sss

And a load more with similar playstyles, awesome stories and unforgettable soundtracks.

If I were to list ALL of the "jrpgs" that I like...well let's see:

1. FFIV
2. FFVI
3. Breath of Fire
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Illusion of Gaia
6. FFV
7. Mystic Quest
8. FFI
9. Soul Blazer
10. Sorcerian (Dragon Slayer V) on PC

1. Final Fantasy(not the ones after XIII)
2. Baten Kaitos
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Ys
5. Pokémon

There are some similar games. Actually I'd say Legend of Heroes: Sora No Kiseki took some of the movement/battle mechanics. Though I will admit the game is a bit less fluid than even Grandia 1. For example, certain attacks in LoH delay enemies like cancellation attacks in the Grandia series.

If you are into PSP/Vita I'd say give it a try - or atleast youtube it. ^_^
