@burning typhoon
Yeah ryu is somewhat pronounced "dyou" due to the r sound coming from the tongue rolling off the teeth, where the english d sound comes from

I used to think it was spelled Pikatu, but pronounced with a chu because of the American accent. Like 'century'.

This was when Pokemon first came out. Everyone was talking about it, but I hadn't gotten the game yet.

Non-gaming one, I used to think Ke$ha was pronounced 'Keesha'. I found out about her music after I moved here to Jordan, so I never actually heard anyone say her name until like a year later on TV.

What.. the f... ? WHAT?!

My friend always used to say "may-rio" instead of "Mah-rio".

As a French-Canadian, I grew up pronouncing the Bros from Super Mario Bros as "Bross" instead of "Bro-z" and to this day that's still how I say it in conversations.

For VGC specific names, I pronounce ioi: eye-oh-ee for some reason and I used to read badgenome as Badge-nome but I corrected myself now and read it bad-genome.

I still say it as Badge-nome in my head. That's just how the universe works.

OT: I surprisingly said most everything correctly. Compared to your guys' younger selves I was pretty great at pronunciation. (Other than some Pokemon names, but come on. Those got crazy sometimes.)

When I was a kid I didn't know how to speak English so I basically pronounce everything incorrectly. The ones I remember are:

Hyrule: ji-ruler
Toad: "Hongo" (that's mushroom in Spanish)
Bowser: Boser

Kids today have everything so easy.

Schlurp, Enton and Pummeluff are cool, but Knuddeluff is the best.

You aren't supposed to like Pokemon. Not even in German.

also i used to pronounce pachter as patcher

A common mistake that is made all too easily, because Pachter patches his pachtetic predictions all the time.
