Forums - Microsoft - Better Know A Console: Xbox One's HyperVisor OS

where did they say that.  hell where did they even say 3 gb were going to be used for the os.  that defeats the purpose of hyper v.  that makes it just v

MS itself confirmed.

"It has been rumored for months now that the OS for the new Xbox would use 3GB RAM and Whitten confirmed in this interview that it will require “around” 3GB. So it could be a bit more, could be a little bit less. This leaves about 5GB RAM for game developers."

There are a link to the Game Informe video interview.

You can't make the resources for games dynimic... you want just kill a console gamers experience is you do that.

Where did you see that? I must admit that I did not read a lot on the internet lately (was busy); if Microsoft released this information , I missed it :(

I was believeing the opposite actually, so this is really surprising to me.

Why? Game resource have to be same, all the same, to all developers... can be dynamic in any console... what happen if the OS VM consume part of resources of the Game OS... you can't do that.

MS already confirmed the Game VM will have 5GB available... no more, no less... always 5GB.

Xbox One uses 6-Cores of CPU, 5GB RAM and 90% of GPU for games

Your link is no confirmation, it especially uses "rumor". Please be more reasonable, ethomaz. Don't exaggerate where it is not needed. Also ram-usage is always subject to change as we know from this generation. You should know this.

that article says "A lot of people have been questioning whether Marc Whitten not outright denying things like 5GB RAM is really “confirming” indirectly"

lol ironically in microsoft world all rumors are true.  the sad part about that people can make stuff up and the internet will just run with it as fact these days

There is in fact no confirmation of anything in that interview.  There is no answer given to the question, as a matter of fact.

So basicaly speculations.
Nothing in this article is stating that it is not just an upper limit.

And as for the "why", it is because the Hyper-V technology is actually offering this possibility... So other than speculations an without nothing confirmed by Microsoft, I do not see why I should believe they have the same possibility than any other Hyper-V achitecture...

So Windows 8 specs are 1GB ram minimum for OS on 32-bit system. Xbox is not running a full version of the Windows 8 OS, however even in a hyper-V environment you need the entire OS for each instance, each requiring separate resources. With the Apps, games and video pass through all functioning at the same time, it is pretty reasonable to say that 3GB will be required for OS alone. Remember, everything is displayed in HD including the menus, a lot is going to be constantly going on in the background on at least two hyper-Vs. I would imagine that the HDD hits will need to kept to a minimum in order to keep performance up as well, which also lends itself to having more available ram for the various hyper-vs being run.

5GBs is fine for me. Crysis 3 (PC) , BF3 (PC), BF4(PC), etc only require 4gb of ram and don't even hit that mark. If games on Xbox One only end up looking as good as Crysis 3 and BF4 or a little better then I am fine with that. The other features such as instant switching, twitch integration, voice control, motion control, etc have me sold. I'm not looking for only a games machine and that is why I'm getting an Xbox One. I'll pick up a PS4 when it drops in price in a few years for the exclusives.

@superman4 1gb of RAM is the min requirements and only supports 4gb of RAM. the 64 bit version requires a min of 2gb of RAM and supports 512 / 128 gb of ram depending on pro/stdrd version.

I'd like to say the main os would be closer to the 64bit version since win 8 is optimized for smaller devices in mind, and x1 would require higher graphical integrity, but will have (hopefully) less things running at once requiring less ram.

So I'd speculate the main os would require about 1.5gb of ram with potentially locking out the other 1.5 gb to do the snapping between operations and keep games running smoothly.

To infer anything off Windows 8 is starting from a totally wrong position, believe me. You can of course speculate what you want but it won't end anything near reality.

WTF? You watched the interview? lol lol lol

Confirmed by Whitten.

And reasonable? People are saying that RAM will change between the OS App and OS Games... so if I have dozem apps installeds I will have issues in the games because the OS App is using the RAM that was to be used for OS Games???

I'm the only reasonable here lol
