AMD AMF Encoder Receives Crucial Update, Now Even Rivals NVIDIA’s NVENC

Now the important thing to note is that it rivals the encoder in this specific test where it was only two points behind which increased to half a point behind. But the other thing to note is:

"However, no streaming platform has offered any current support, even with it being readily available for months. It is speculated that AMD's developer support history in implementing its encoder SDKs has been troublesome, which could explain why it is not as incorporated."

It doesn't matter how good your encoder is if no one can use it.

Yea developer support seems to be one of the biggest hurdle they are facing. Even FSR is having trouble getting traction despite it being open source and relatively easy to implement. There are more games that have FSR 2.0 modded in than official developer support to date and since FSR 2.0 requires developer tweaking to get it right, modding in FSR into the game doesn't mean it will give you the best image quality/performance that FSR has to offer.

Meanwhile DLSS is officially in 200 games with more to come:

RTX users keep winning this gen. Hopefully Radeon can catch up in crucial areas they missed with RDNA 2 such as with Ray Tracing and Ai Upscaling. They also need an alternative to Nvidia Reflex cause once you understand how Reflex allows a lower input latency even against GPUs with a higher framerate and Reflex disabled, you will realize how crazy it really is.

Well we did always say that consoles were glorified PCs

Installing Windows on Xbox to emulate old PC games is so weird (and also nerd).

I love it!

Normally I don't bat an eye when it comes to Ubishat games but they may be about to set a dangerous precedent on Steam...

Asscreed Liberation and Anno 2070 has gotten delisted on Steam but that's not the issue... The issue is...

"Notice: Please note this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022"

https://store.steampowered.com/app/260210/Assassins_Creed_Liberation_HD/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/48240/Anno_2070/

Now tons of games have gotten delisted on steam but I haven't seen any with that notice. If it ends up being that you literally cannot play the game despite having purchased it, this is going to be very yikes. It does use UPlay as a DRM so I wouldn't be surprised if that is what will prevent you from playing it. Luckily, I haven't bought an Ubishat game for the past 10 years unless it was part of a bundle.

That's bad, even worse than what I've come to usually expect from Ubisoft. I wonder if this has something to do with Ubisoft discontinuing online services for 'old games'. Anyway, what's especially scummy is that those games were just discounted in the summer sale, and mere months after it they won't be playable anymore. It's as if they wanted to milk them as much as they could before preventing the buyers from accessing the games...

I can understand if they want to shut down some old servers checking DLC licenses, if these games (or their DLCs) don't sell anymore.

But the better way to do that would be unlocking all singleplayer DLC content in the main game with a final patch; integrating the optional stuff in the main game. Instead of taking away this content from the people who bought it, gift these contents to people who only have the base game.

The same for whole games they don't want to check the licenses anymore (AC Liberation HD, Anno 2070): offer them for free, if you don't want to sell these games anymore.

Much much better PR with negligible costs for them.

This is what happens with digital stores, when you sell licenses, not games. It's a dangerous path, one that many feared would happen and that Ubi (who else could be if not them or EA?), has decided to start. We'll see where this path takes us.

I have Anno 2070 on Steam, but I haven't played it "much" because it's far worse than 1404. I may try to see if it still downloads and works after September 1st.
