So, it looks like MSoft (and maybe AMD) didin't learn from the last time and it has happened again, right?

Windows 11 appears to be hobbling AMD Ryzen 7000 performance
https://www.pcgamer.com/windows-11-amd-performance-ccd/
The performance of AMD's latest CPUs appears to show that it's the Ryzen 5 CPUs that are the best option for gamers. This is because the double CCD (Core Compute Die) configurations to be found at the top of the Ryzen 7000 stack seem to be falling foul of the Microsoft Windows 11 thread scheduler and performing worse than they should.

CapFrameX (opens in new tab) and Hardware Unboxed (opens in new tab) both took to Twitter to reveal that AMD's top chip of this generation was lagging behind the single CCD chips in some games—with Metro Exodus in particular dropping from 176fps on average from a single CCD down to 151fps at the stock Ryzen 9 7950X configuration.

Turning off the second CCD can unlock the performance of the chip, but halving the core count isn't exactly something you'd want to do after splashing out $699 on the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (opens in new tab). Alternatively, you could just pick up a chip that has a single CCD by default, such as the Ryzen 5 7600X or the Ryzen 7 7700X.

CapFrameX also tested to see if performance also improved after turning off SMT (Simultaneous MultiThreading) and sure enough, it did. But, and it's an important point here, the single CCD version of the chip with SMT off performed even better—it managed 190fps, with the minimums also improving significantly compared to the default configuration.

This is why the finger of fault ends up pointing at Microsoft's Thread Scheduler once again—there was a similar problem on this front last year with the release of Windows 21H2, which saw performance drop significantly for AMD's chips. A chipset driver update (opens in new tab) was needed back then to sort out the performance.

How come these big companies can make the same mistake multiple times? You'd think that they had learned and, once fixed, it was really fixed.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Gonna wait for Alex's in depth review, mainly because it's IGN and for another, they it seems they hired that wannabe DF dude who seemingly has bias for PS, and that to me gets heavily in the way of actual perf reviews (it also doesn't help that the dude does not keep up to date with his hw configs compared to Alex, who will use the highest end and mid tier hw, while this guy can't afford much of it and just makes the reviews sloppy and gives PS more brownie points).

I generally think the dude should just stick to reviewing PS games, since his past reviews for Xbox and PC ports hasn't been consistent or stellar/positive.

A fairly popular custom launcher project for Minecraft has capsized after a maintainer purged the project's other developers for "promoting radicalist leftist queer ideology," GamingOnLinux reports. With the project under their exclusive control, the hijacker is now free to push any update they like without oversight, including malicious code.

Bethesda Softworks senior designer Ferret Baudoin, who worked as lead designer on Fallout 76, has died. A tribute page on Facebook said he "passed suddenly" on October 15, "surrounded by his family and friends."

Rat apocalypse comes to Total War: Warhammer 3 with new Vermintide endgame
https://www.pcgamer.com/rat-apocalypse-comes-to-total-war-warhammer-3-with-new-vermintide-endgame/
Does anyone do patch notes quite like The Creative Assembly? There may be more details in the blog post for Total War: Warhammer 3's 2.2.0 update than there are Skaven in the End Times, and that's saying something—because as I understand it, Vermintide is literally the rat apocalypse. Today's post details a huge range of changes, additions, and balance tweaks, but the most exciting to me is a brand new endgame full of angry rat men.

Marvel Snap wheels out Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury for its launch video

Marvel Snap left early access and went into full release today. The PC client still very much shows its mobile roots, most noticeably in its phone-shaped orientation, but if you're looking for a sense of how seriously Marvel's paymasters are taking the game, a launch video starring none other than Samuel L Jackson gives a pretty good idea.

The Bayonetta voice actor dispute just got more complicated
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-bayonetta-voice-actor-dispute-just-got-more-complicated/
Over the weekend, actor Hellena Taylor said that Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya offered her a flat rate of $4,000 to reprise her role as Bayonetta's voice in the upcoming Bayonetta 3, a lowball she said she declined. Taylor's statement has now been rebutted by two sources who spoke anonymously to Bloomberg, which says it also obtained documentation related to the negotiations.
According to Bloomberg's sources, "Platinum Games sought to hire Taylor for at least five sessions, each paying $3,000 to $4,000 for four hours in the studio." The total fee would've been at least $15,000, if that were the case. Taylor, Bloomberg's sources say, rejected the offer and "asked for a six-figure sum as well as residuals." In the end, Platinum hired prolific voice actor Jennifer Hale, best known as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, to take over the role.
>> You probably already know this if you follow the thread about this whole thing. By the way, his will likely be the last article I post about this matter. After all, I don't even know why I posted the first article about it since this is not a game that will (officially) launch on PC.

Riot fixes 'pay-to-lose' Valorant gun skin that pros forgot to tell devs about
https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-fixes-pay-to-lose-valorant-gun-skin-that-pros-forgot-to-tell-devs-about/
Riot has shortened one of Valorant's gun skins after learning pro players were calling it a "pay-to-lose" item due to a slight variance in the length of its barrel. The Spectrum Phantom, a version of Valorant's Phantom rifle with altered visual and audio effects, had a nose that poked out just a little bit further than other Phantom variants, meaning enemies would be able to spot you slightly sooner than usual if you were using one.
