Asus M16 - The Cost of Using Intel...

Dave compares Asus M16 with i9 11900 + 3060 vs G15 with Ryzen 5900HS + 3070. You would think that the 3070 would win but they are surprisingly close. Maybe it's another case where the G15 has it's ram gimped and we know how important the RAM is with Ryzen. But the interesting thing is, while the M16 is a better laptop overall even outside of the performance as the screen is quite good and gives you gen 4 ssds, the Intel version has some issues. Even though it's thicker and has adjustments to make the airflow better, the noise is significantly louder and has 1 hour less battery life.

Could it simply be that the 3070 is MAX-Q and the 3060 Max-P? After all, the Intel system seems to be pulling a lot more power going by the very elaborate cooling yet much higher noise level and it drains the battery faster.

Also, could the CPU be some limiter here in some tests? The 5900HS has it's Power limit at least 10W lower than the 11900H and the CPU has the same amount of heatpipes as the GPU does.

It almost seems like you want AMD to be bad here.

According to Asus website:

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 Laptop GPU
With ROG Boost up to 1525MHz at 80W (95W with Dynamic Boost)

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3070 Laptop GPU
With ROG Boost up to 1390MHz at 80W (100W with Dynamic Boost)

So they are both Max Q however the 3070 has more cores but at lower clock.

The CPU could be but the fire strike graphics score which is GPU bound is also very close.

As for me wanting AMD to be bad here... The video in this case was very positive towards AMD version and I also mentioned that the Intel version is significantly louder with 1 hour less battery life even though it is thicker and has better airflow. I do have problems with AMD mobile (gen 3 ssds and 8gpu lanes) as I also have problems with Intel mobile (heat and worse battery) and this is one of those videos that showed off some of the characteristics of each version.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I'm pumped, bagged a 3080 FE. Screw AIB prices.

He did it thanks to a four Leaf Clover. It's impossible to do it without one.

Should check out the Razer 14.

It is a pretty impressive machine but a bit too small for me.

My two main considerations right now are the Lenovo Legion 7 16 inch with a 5900HX + 3080 16GB or Dell Alienware X17 i7 11800 + 3080 16GB

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Legion-7-16ACH-in-review-Gaming-powerhouse-with-good-16-10-display.545205.0.html

https://www.dell.com/en-ca/gaming/alienware-laptops

The Lenovo looks to be the best value while providing crazy performance and 7 hours of battery life and 400 nits 1440p "HDR" screen but I think it looks quite bland design wise. X17 looks quite good design wise imo and has the additional features like gen 4 ssds but I get the feeling the battery life is gonna suck as it's Intel i7 11800 + Nvidia 3080 16GB. If it's only an hour difference, then I might pick the Alienware assuming the price isn't horrid after discounts. But if it's a big difference in battery life, then I'll probably go with the Lenovo.

Todd Howard says focusing on fewer platforms will mean better games
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/todd-howard-says-focusing-on-fewer-platforms-will-mean-better-games/
Now that Bethesda is part of the Microsoft family and Starfield will be released exclusively on PC and Xbox, Todd Howard spoke to the Telegraph about what that means from a development standpoint. "By focusing on those platforms, you really get to lean in a lot on making it the best it can be for those systems,” he said. That isn't unreasonable, as developing for PC and Xbox means the team won't have to make sure their game adapts to Playstation hardware, although Howard doesn't specifically mention Sony's console with the statement.
