Gone Home probably doesn’t need guns. It’s pretty well-regarded without them, but what would a bullet-heavy take on the game look like. Hmm.
Ghost Recon Online producer Corey Facteau has explained why his team opted to offer the game on Steam Early Access in a new interview.
Valve’s ‘Steam Dev Days’ event in Seattle has given us some insight into the company’s modus operandi, but after one developer tweeted that Steam Greenlight is “going away,” it got VG247′s Dave Cook feeling relieved.

Caversham library. That’s my zombie holdout spot. It has no ground floor windows, it’s across the road from a large supermarket, and there are only two entrances. Plus, their comics section is ace. Could while away the weeks following the outbreak reading The Walking Dead and Scott Pilgrim.
Many of you will have your own zombie survival plan. Don’t worry if you don’t, folk like you are the first to be run down and, frankly, we need your can openers.
Project Zomboid is tapping into that inherent survivalist in all of us and, with its new map tools, lets you design your own towns within which to last out the zombies.

Included in it are Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third and all expansions, and Saints Row 4 all for $29.99. Hit up the links for more information.
Those wondering just how open Steam Machines will be, need wonder no more per this nifty quote from Valve founder Gabe Newell on Reddit: “We’re trying to make it as open as possible. If EA wants to put Origin on it, that would be fine, etc… (trying to pick an example of something that people think we would prohibit).” Back in 2011, Valve and EA fell out a bit after Steam’s terms and conditions were changed, and the firm responded by pulling quite a few of its titles. Thanks, GI International.
GoG’s Charity Promotion held back in November raised $1.9 million, the service announced today. Donations earned through the “Pick 3+ Donate $5″ promotion were distributed to the World Wildlife Federation, Worldbuilders and Gaming for Good. “The combination of these selfless developers and GOG.com’s great gaming community–and the fact that they were willing to support these great causes–were the real cause of the success of the fundraiser, and continue to show that gamers around the world love to help make the world a better place,” said the company in a statement. Thanks, The Escapist.

Square Enix went through some major restructuring in the wake of a disappointing FY2013, and European CEO Phil Rogers says more has changed than a few job titles.
Remember when a BioShock film was a thing? It’s not a thing any more, but during the time that it was a thing, concept artist Jim Martin produced a series of works giving a feel for what it might have looked like. Go check out the gallery on his portfolio site. Franchise creator Ken Levine himself pulled the plug on the BioShock movie adaptation after its budget was slashed and a few personnel changes were made. Oh well, we’ll always have, you know, the games.
Thanks, Polygon.
Invisible, Inc – Klei’s new game, formerly known as Incognita – has produced a new alpha gameplay trailer
Sid Meier’s Cover Action is now available on GOG for the sum of $6, on either Mac or PC. It’s not considered one of Meier’s most resounding successes, but it’s an interesting blend of two quite different play styles and fans swear by it. Notably, the default protagonist is female, and you can opt to be male, rather than the other way around. It’s these little things, innit. Thanks, Sid.
Thanks, games.on.net.

I'll sit through any Miyazaki flick, even the one's I'm not really into like My Neighbour Totoro, just because they are so damn pretty. Spirited Away, however, I'll sit through because I absolutely adore it. I'm not normally one for whimsy, because I like to pretend I'm a gruff and serious fellow, but Spirited Away just makes me a giddy child.
So I desperately want to fire up Minecraft and check out this delightful recreation of my favourite Miyazaki film. Alan_becker posted his impressive, blocky world on Reddit, and conveniently you can download the thing and have a wee wander right bloody now.
So we don't have jetpacks, hoverboards, flying cars or moon cities, but at least one aspect of the future we all wanted is slowly becoming a reality, and that's VR. Until now, all the buzz has been about the Oculus Rift, but developers at Steam Dev Days have found something new to fall in love with: Valve's own VR, which is apparently impressing even more than Crystal Cove, the latest Oculus Rift Prototype.
Overexposure has made me cynical when it comes to all but the most special of trailers, and thankfully White Night's debut trailer - which we missed back in October - falls smack bang in the middle of that category. Haunting and monochrome, it deftly reveals its inspirations; Hitchcock, Alone in the Dark, German Expressionism, Lynch, even before the text makes it clear.
It's a horror survival affair, but looks like it will be less about the jump scares and more about the ominous nature of darkness with a spot of puzzles as the protagonist attempts to survive and explore an abandoned house one evening.
Not many developers let you control their games with your voice despite loads of games putting you in the position of a commander. Voice control would fit with that role nicely.
Celestia is one of the few. You take a young, isolated star and build it into a complex galaxy using only three different vocal tones.
