is DayZ worth getting then? It's on my "maybe" list right now, been waiting to ask people who have played it what it's like?

while im here, what graphics cards do people have?

I just upgraded to the AMD R9 280x, absolute beast of a card (got the twin frozor gaming edition), been running Battlefield 4 at 1080p with all settings at maximum quality and not had any frame rate issues at all, only issue I have had with it so far is running Anno 2070, for some reason the card runs at like 80degrees+ on it, but with all my other games (including ones I thought were much more demanding) it runs at like 70degrees at the absolute most, it's not an issue as such, my PSU is only 550w but it's a high quality one, I have a spare 750w one as well but it doesn't have the right connections for the card and is a cheap and cheerful one that I got given by a mate.

80 degrees isn't anything to worry about, I've had GPU's chug along fine for years hitting 100'C.

And yes DayZ is worth getting, just not worth getting yet, wait for them to finish the game up and for it to go on a discounted sale. :)

Also, welcome to the Radeon 7970 club, which you card is a re-badge of. :P

My card, as my sig says, it's an "old" 5850 1GB.

I'm waiting untill the new, 20nm cards launch to upgrade (if I can).

Please excuse my bad English.

ah okay, just wasn't sure, my old card I don't think ever got anything like that hot but it was a pretty low end one!

cool cool, I'll wait a bit then

haha, thanks :p I watched some reviews of it online before I got it so I knew it would be the right one, I got it on offer as well so it was only like £200 (it's not on sale anymore and is back at like £280, so pretty chuffed!)

is it worth upgrading from 8GB to 16GB of RAM atm?

About the "How many console gamers does it take to change a graphics card?" poll: adding "Requires a cloud" option after "3 - Requires a crowd" would have been full of win.

Alienware Steam Machine is the one Valve believe will "make the most Steam users happy"

Comment

Its existence was news to us yesterday, and today Alienware’s Steam Machine is barely visible in the mind’s eye - an image built only on figures of its proportions and ports, devoid of any real idea of what’s inside. But Valve’s Greg Coomer says that Alienware’s new box is the Steam Machine more of us are going to come to know than any other.

“It's what we hoped would happen when we began this relationship about a year ago,” Coomer told The Verge. “This machine is the one that we think is actually going to serve the most customers and make the most Steam users happy.”

For gaming? Nope it's not worth the jump right now.
With that in mind, DDR3 prices are still climbing, if you have the cash, I would personally make the jump.

Streaming games! It's what everyone's talking about, even my mum. Well, maybe not, but she did post a picture on Facebook of a stream that she took on a countryside walk with the family dog. Razer's Project Christie modular gaming PC is from the sexiest of futures

Comment

One of the coolest - and weirdest - things to appear at CES has to be Razer's new modular gaming PC, Project Christie. It's only a concept right now, though a working, tangible one, but it's already looking stunning and a bit of a dream for people who hate faffing about when upgrading their desktop.

It's beautiful and understated, and strikingly simple, at least on the surface. There's a bay station, which just looks like a single, thick strip that surrounds all the modules, and upgrading the desktop just requires you to plug a new unit into it, connected to the bay through Razer's proprietary interface. Simple as that.

All the modules are mineral oil cooled, so it's as quiet as death, and the quick release fittings mean that you can just swap modules easily, upgrading from a single GPU to SLI in a matter of seconds. It's like something out of Star Trek, if Star Trek wasn't really dated.

DayZ beta almost a year away, with a new roadmap coming this month

Comment

A post on the DayZ dev blog from Bohemia Interactive's Marek Spanel confirmed the long wait we have ahead of us until the Early Access title reaches beta, which is almost a year away. "[W]e do not expect to reach Beta status sooner than the end of 2014."

Its alpha status hasn't put many people off, however, as Dean "Rocket" Hall revealed that 800,000 copies of the game had been sold in less than a month on the weekend, a figure that has continued to increase dramatically since then. Spanel notes that over 875,000 copies have now been sold.
