Valve updates The Lab with leaderboards and more

http://www.pcgamer.com/valve-updates-the-lab-with-leaderboards-and-more/

The Lab, the collection of VR “experiments” that Valve rolled out in March, is all about science. But as today's big update asks, “What's science without a little competition?” And not competition in the sense of being the first to have new research published in a peer-reviewed journal. No, the type of competition we're talking about here is a bit more, shall we say, hands-on.

Myst artist, BioShock Infinite writer team up for a new adventure called Zed

http://www.pcgamer.com/myst-artist-bioshock-infinite-writer-team-up-for-a-new-adventure-called-zed/

Obduction, the spiritual successor to Myst, is coming in July, not quite three years after Cyan raised more than $1.3 million in funding on Kickstarter. Eagre Games, founded and headed by Myst artist Chuck Carter, isn't aiming for nearly that kind of budget for Zed, which debuted on Kickstarter last week, but it still promises a game “with deep roots in the Myst adventure-puzzle genre.”

Slapstick VR sandbox Giant Cop gets a much giant-er map

http://www.pcgamer.com/slapstick-vr-sandbox-giant-cop-gets-a-much-giant-er-map/

I love following the rules, especially if they’re being enforced by a cop that could cuff Godzilla. Giant Cop’s pitch is right there in the name: it’s a VR sandbox where you take on the role of a very tall officer of the law and patrol Micro City, putting away perps—literally. You grab the city’s tiny citizens using the HTC Vive controllers and throw them into jail, a building with a criminal receptacle instead of a roof. You’re not limited to just grabbing folks; Giant Cop is a physics playground. The top of a sportsman warehouse is adorned with a massive tennis racket, but as a giant cop, it’s the perfect tool for slamming bouncier criminals into the, well, slammer. A donut shop, as expected, is adorned with a massive donut so cops, giant or not, can spot it from a mile away. Our titular large police officer can pick it up for a quick snack. Plaster, sugar—what’s the difference?

Overwatch's Competitive Mode will be more "skill-based" when it returns

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatchs-competitive-mode-will-be-more-skill-based-when-it-returns/

Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed in an interview with Eurogamer that the McCree nerf he hinted at last week is going to happen soon, but said Blizzard is “still in exploration mode” regarding buffs to D.Va. He also talked about some of the changes that have been made to the game's Competitive mode, which is now more of a skill-based system than progression-based, as it had initially been envisioned.

In other news (Unless its been posted already)... Windows 10 forced upgrade actually helped someone instead of being total nonsense!

"But the Windows 10 forced upgrade has worked in favor of at least one user, who was saved from the recent TeamViewer hack. This Reddit user has reported that he was impacted by the recent TeamViewer hack, when the hijacker who broke into his computer couldn’t do any harm because GWX decided to upgrade to Windows 10. The hacker was kicked out by the Windows 10 upgrade process, because he was disconnected from the PC as the network connection was no longer available."

"Now, hacker would have resumed his work once reconnected but guess what? Windows 10 upgrade process removed TeamViewer because of the compatibility issues, thereby removing any chances of the hacker getting connected to that target machine again."

Just so much lolz

Been having the hardest time deciding on what AIB 1080 to get. Think I decided on the MSI GTX 1080 Seahawk though.

As far as I know, the Seahawk has a single 8-pin power connector like the reference board, so if you're after high overclocks you'll be better with another card.

Here's a review of the MSI GTX1080 Gaming X card, if you're interested: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/msi-geforce-gtx-1080-gaming-x-8g-review,1.html

While I'm not too familiar with overclocking I didn't do any heavy overclocking with my GTX 770.  I should be fine overclocking to 2000 to 2100 without a second pin?  From my understanding from what I have been reading I shouldn't need to mess with the voltage too much with a clock like that?  I'm also a big fan of the aestehtic of the Seahawk as my case is a corsair 500r White and it matches.   Additionaly, it's a bit smaller then the gaming X.  But I'm still not fully decided.

Why even mention ancient 3Dfx and ATI cards? Do you really think there are many people who still use these cards today? I also doubt that there are many Fermi SLI-combinations still active nowadays. It makes much more sense to replace the 2 old cards with 1 newer card, which is even faster than the old setup, doesn't have to rely on SLI/CF profiles, supports new features/codecs/interfaces and amortizes its price very fast with lower electricity costs.

But believe what you want, I still have my doubts that many people favor such a stopgap solution. You can't prove that there are millions of active multi-GPU setups and I can't prove that there are less than 300k.

They were mentioned because it was part of the example, context and all. And I don't assume people use them, hobbyists might though. (I own a few.)

Those who have high-end SLI fermi's probably haven't upgraded because they don't have the money and from a performance perspective they are still happy with how their setup performs.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
