The price of that new AMD GPU, jesus christ and I thought my 980 was expensive.

Definitely not going to afford a GPU that will become obsolete after a year or two.

Are you really surprised, tho? It's the same chip that powers the Fury X cards and also has a CLC unit.

I already knew it would be expensive:

AMD RADEON R9 FURY X2 CODENAMED RADEON PRO DUO?

http://videocardz.com/58470/amd-radeon-r9-fury-x2-codenamed-radeon-pro-duo

Our friends from Hardware Battle have just confirmed that Radeon R9 Fury X2 is in fact.. Radeon Pro Duo.

You probably heard about Radeon R9 Fury X2 or Fiji Gemini, but it appears the official name is *allegedly* slightly different.

...

>>I guess the Radeon Pro Duo, being half professional, will be rather expensive. I'm guessing it will be more like $1,500 (or more) than $1,000.

Nailed it!

From yesterday's (or today's, depends on your timezone) conference, what surprised me the most for several reasons was the GPU roadmap:

1.-First of all, I think it's the first time that AMD shows their GPU roadmap. I only recall seeing similar things from Nvidia.

2.-Polaris won't have HBM2? Does it mean that all Polaris GPUs will have GDDR5 or GDDR5X memory, or will AMD launch one card with 4 or 8GB of HBM1?

3.-Vega. By the looks of that, it will launch early 2017. Does it mean that the 14nm process is still not viable enough for big chips? Or does the problem lie in SK Hynix and its HBM2 products (that won't arrive until Q3)?

4.-Navi. What does Scalability mean? And what can that Nexgen Memory be?

Edit:

Also, the "Polaris 10" demo was a piece of sh*t. Running Hitman at 1440p 60fps? The 980Ti, FuryX and Fury already do that now, with the 390X not far off that mark aswell.

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Hitman-Spiel-6333/Specials/DirectX-12-Benchmark-Test-1188758/

If that's all we'll get from "fast Polaris", we're not good.

You're not the only one who pointed out the Hitman demo, I thought AMD was going to bring a bit more to the table with that showing.

It was a bit of a let down, right?

Anyway, I just realized that we have talked about the dual GPU from AMD but we haven't showed it yet . So here's the AMD Radeon Pro Duo

http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/AMD-launches-dual-Fiji-card-Radeon-Pro-Duo-targeting-VR-developers-1500

and

http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-pro-duo-announced-worlds-fastest-graphics-card-16-teraflops-compute/

(click on them to see bigger pics)

Things to notice:

+FuryX offers 8.6TFlops while R9 Nano offers 8.19TFlops. Given that the Pro Duo delivers 16TFlops, its will most likely be based on the Nano configuration. Another reinforcer of that notion is that the board is rated for 350W, while FuryX is a 275W product and the Nano is 175W.

+No frequencies have been given, but the card has 3x8-pin power connectors.

+The radiator is thicker than the one used with the Fury X cards. Also, the fan seems to be of the same size, 120mm. We'll have to wait for reviews to see if it's the same fan but spinning at higher speeds (and thus making more noise) or it's another fan that looks similar.

Inb4 Sony sues due to the name lol.

That is one insane card though, if I was absolutely loaded I would have bought one for sure but since I;m not minted I'll be sticking to my 980 until we see the rest of this years and next GPU releases for my next build.

Reading this PCPer article and watching the interview with Raja Koduri:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qJj1ViyyPY

it seems that the guys at AMD/RTG believe that GPUs will take the same path that CPUs took several years ago and, instead of big chip, we'll start to see more multi-GPU configurations.

Oh, and by what he said at the end of the interview, he seems to be the first one interested in launching Polaris as fast as possible .

I thought Strafe was coming out this year but apparently it's slated for 2017, bit of a bummer but I can't wait to play it. Love how cheesy 90's they made one of their trailers:

THE WALKING DEAD: MICHONNE CONTINUES THIS MONTH

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-walking-dead-michonne-continues-this-month/

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne, as measured in our February review, did not make a spectacular splash. “I'm happy she's got her own game, it's just a shame the first episode doesn't live up to her,” we wrote, contrasting the powerfully interesting character with the rote, routine experience of the game itself. “Hopefully, that'll change in the next two.” On March 29, we'll find out.

PLANET LICKER IS A GAME YOU LITERALLY PLAY WITH YOUR TONGUE

Included in this year's batch was one for something called Planet Licker. “Each lick of the controller propels a friendly monster through a solar system of flavor,” it said. “Slurp your set of ice pops, and go for a record time!” Okay, you have my attention.

BATTLEFIELD 4 POST-LAUNCH CONTENT MAY BE COMING TO AN END

http://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-4-post-launch-content-may-be-coming-to-an-end/

Though it released in 2013, Battlefield 4 received a free expansion in December in the form of Legacy Operations, which introduced a classic Battlefield 2 map to the military shooter. Two years is a pretty good run as far as post-launch support goes, but Legacy Operations may be the last: a statement made by DICE LA producer David Sirland suggests the studio is done developing for the title.

KEEP TALKING AND NOBODY EXPLODES HAS SOLD OVER 200,000 COPIES

http://www.pcgamer.com/keep-talking-and-nobody-explodes-has-sold-over-200000-copies/

Indie VR party game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes first launched on Gear VR back in June of last year, releasing on Steam a few months later in October. It works like this: one player in VR (or looking at a private screen) attempts to diffuse a bomb while the other players, who have the defusal manual, frantically explain what to do. According to co-creator Ben Kane at his GDC talk today, the idea's a hit: Keep Talking has sold over 200,000 copies. While not quite as impressive as some recent indie hits, it's still a great success—especially considering it was primarily targeted at owners of VR headsets at a time where not many people have them.

KINGS QUEST CHAPTER 3 WILL RELEASE NEXT MONTH, SIERRA CONFIRMS

http://www.pcgamer.com/kings-quest-chapter-3-will-release-next-month-sierra-confirms/

King's Quest Chapter 3: Once Upon A Climb will release April 26, Sierra has confirmed. The five part series is expected to wrap up this year, but not before we indulge in some more lighthearted "romantic comedy" adventures. According to the announcement, King Graham's wife and Gwendolyn's grandmother, Queen Valanice, will make an appearance in this episode. I think you can bet on there being puzzles, as well.

WARCRAFT 3 RISES AGAIN WITH PATCH 1.27

The last time Warcraft 3 received a patch was in 2011, but there has been a sudden a flurry of activity in Blizzard’s archives: a few days ago, Diablo 2 got a compatibility patch to make it play nice with modern systems, and now Warcraft has received the same treatment. Patch 1.27a is live now.

STAR WARS DABBLES WITH THE VIVE IN TRIALS ON TATOOINE

http://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-dabbles-with-the-vive-in-trials-on-tatooine/

The news is full of VR 'experiences' today: Assassin's Creed wasn't too clear on what that means, but for Star Wars the experience looks distinctly game-like. And incredible. Not in the overwhelmingly impressive way—there are about three seconds of footage—but in the realisation-of-a-fantasy-as-old-as-I-am way. Using the HTC Vive, Trials on Tatooine will at long last give us the opportunity to deflect blaster fire with a lightsaber without having to do the sound effects ourselves.
