SALES/PLAYER COUNTS & DEALS

Dragon's Dogma 2 is already at half the lifetime sales of the original cult classic, and if Capcom wants more, it should give us a Dark Arisen-style expansion
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/dragons-dogma-2-is-already-at-half-the-lifetime-sales-of-the-original-cult-classic-and-if-capcom-wants-more-it-should-give-us-a-dark-arisen-style-expansion/
As of early November, Dragon's Dogma 2, Capcom's ogre-stabbing RPG, has hit a new sales milestone, with the company celebrating four million copies shifted. For a niche RPG with a hefty price tag, that's quite the win.
That puts it halfway to matching its predecessor's lifetime sales, including the sales of its well-received expanded edition, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. It took Dragon's Dogma and Dark Arisen more than a decade to reach these numbers, so for the sequel to hit the halfway point in only a year and a half feels noteworthy.

Dispatch proves the death of Telltale-style games was a mere mirage, as it rakes in 2 million players: 'Wouldn't be here without you'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/dispatch-proves-the-death-of-telltale-style-games-was-a-mere-mirage-as-it-rakes-in-2-million-players-wouldnt-be-here-without-you/
Before Dispatch came out, I was pretty confident that the era of the Telltale-style game was in the past; we had a bit of a golden age there, sure, what with The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, and the shockingly good Tales From the Borderlands. But after Telltale's wobble and the shockingly-less-good New Tales From the Borderlands, I figured they'd gone the way of the dodo.
I was super wrong. Dispatch, per AdHocStudio's Bluesky account, has hit two million players: "We're also sad there are no new episodes this week, but thank you to the two million players that have joined us so far. Wouldn't be here without you."

The Epic Store gives away two new games:

Next week, the free game will be Universe for Sale (for now).

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie modder just released a fan patch for Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/peter-jacksons-king-kong-the-official-game-of-the-movie-modder-just-released-a-fan-patch-for-peter-jacksons-king-kong-the-official-game-of-the-movie-to-celebrate-the-20th-anniversary-of-peter-jacksons-king-kong-the-official-game-of-the-movie/
On January 17, 2025, Update v33.20 brought King Kong to Fortnite as an Epic outfit that players could purchase for 1,500 V-Bucks. But while the dizzying pace of our contemporary culture might make it hard to remember, King Kong existed in media long before he could hit the Griddy or kill Sabrina Carpenter for sport. That big, beautiful ape has graced decades of treasured art—art like Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, which just received a fan patch to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its 2005 launch.
The 2000s were a time of social, political, and cultural transfiguration: The global paradigm was reeling beneath the impact of 9/11 and the United States' ensuing War on Terror, the internet was ascending as the universal medium of informational and commercial exchange, and everywhere people wondered: How would director Peter Jackson follow his success on The Lord of the Rings?
While Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie's lasting reputation has been sullied by the miserable DS port, the version that launched on PC and consoles was surprisingly fun in an era of middling movie-licensed releases, shifting perspective between shooting and throwing spears at raptors in first person and Kong's third person kaiju combat action sequences. Sadly, as with many aging PC games, Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie didn't receive the years of ongoing official support necessary to keep it playable on current hardware.
But Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie hasn't been entirely abandoned. Earlier this week, modder Sergey P. released a new version of his Widescreen Fix mod, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie by fixing display issues, crashes, and input implementations that would otherwise rob us of our Kong quality time.

Thursday gaming news, part two. Longer, but also last:

Hardcore space sim Ostranauts just joined the legendary patch notes canon: 'Corpses should no longer become hotter than the Sun and explode the ships/stations they are on'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/hardcore-space-sim-ostranauts-just-joined-the-legendary-patch-notes-canon-corpses-should-no-longer-become-hotter-than-the-sun-and-explode-the-ships-stations-they-are-on/
The games in the Kitfox publishing stable have a long history of producing beautifully absurd patch notes and bug reports thanks to the absurd intricacies of their systems and simulations. Dwarf Fortress has been responsible for classics like "Undead dwarf contracted were-chameleon curse" and "Cats dying for no reason - alcohol poisoning?" Shortly before its 1.0 release, a Caves of Qud update included this exciting feature addition: "You can voluntarily amputate your own limbs."
This week, another Kitfox game secured its place in that cherished lineage. Ostranauts, the early access hardcore space sim from developer Blue Bottle Games, just released Update v0.14.5.18, which included this magnificent line in its patch notes:

  • Corpses should no longer become hotter than the Sun and explode the ships/stations they are on.

Old School RuneScape just got its first new skill ever and players are psyched about it, apart from the guy the game accidentally branded 'Morbid Loner'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/old-school-runescape-just-got-its-first-new-skill-ever-and-players-are-psyched-about-it-apart-from-the-guy-the-game-accidentally-branded-morbid-loner/
Old School RuneScape has been around for, oh, about 12 years now, and in all that time it's never gotten a new skill. Players have been working with—and making great sport of—the set of skills it inherited from the original RuneScape, which itself last got a new skill (that'd be Hunter) all the way back in 2006.
Well, welcome to a new era. Today, after much testing and debate, Jagex finally sent OSRS' first new skill ever out into the world earlier today. Sailing has landed with a—wait for it—splash, and promises to let players "Take to the high seas, traverse hazardous waters, learn new skill integrations, and finally find out what lies in the uncharted oceans of Gielinor."

After bagging a Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 quest designer for The Witcher 4, CD Projekt snaps up BioShock 4's former narrative lead to work on Cyberpunk 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/after-bagging-a-kingdom-come-deliverance-2-quest-designer-for-the-witcher-4-cd-projekt-snaps-up-bioshock-4s-former-narrative-lead-to-work-on-cyberpunk-2/
CD Projekt Red is on a big recruitment push at the moment as it scales up development of its next big RPG projects. Just last week, the Polish developer nabbed one of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's lead designers to lend their quest-crafting skills to The Witcher 4. Now, it's hired the former narrative lead of Cloud Chamber Games, the developer that's currently working on BioShock 4.

This game had a 100% positive Steam review score for months, until yesterday when someone finally gave it a thumbs-down just 'to be different'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/this-game-had-a-100-percent-positive-steam-review-score-for-months-until-yesterday-when-someone-finally-gave-it-a-thumbs-down-just-to-be-different/
In 'chaotic cooking roguelike' Omelet You Cook, you prepare breakfast for picky customers as ingredients speed along a conveyor belt. It's a delightfully unhinged cooking sim that launched back in June with charming low-fi looks, a challenging cooking system, and the threat of a massive angry chicken named Principal Clucker who will fire you if you displease the customers.
Omelet You Cook launched to rave reviews from players, and over the past five months it's achieved one of the rarest of Steam milestones: 100% positive reviews. Over 500 reviews, not a single one of them negative. That is until this week, when one cook spoiled the broth with a red thumbs-down among the sea of blue approval.
The lone negative review for Omelet You Cook isn't actually negative, though. "Game is amazing," writes the reviewer. "I just like to be different."
>> What a jerk.

A year after Gearbox released Risk of Rain 2 DLC so broken the developer admitted it put the game 'in a really bad place,' it's finally got a win: the new DLC's 96% positive reviews have blasted it up Steam's top sellers chart
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/a-year-after-gearbox-released-risk-of-rain-2-dlc-so-broken-the-developer-admitted-it-put-the-game-in-a-really-bad-place-its-finally-got-a-win-the-new-dlcs-96-percent-positive-reviews-have-blasted-it-up-steams-top-sellers-chart/
Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective, a new DLC for the ultimate numbers-go-up roguelike, launched on Steam yesterday to something new for Gearbox since it took over the game: Player acclaim.
After taking over development duties from original indie developer Hopoo Games last year, Gearbox stepped in it pretty hard, releasing DLC so bad that it broke the game even for players who hadn't purchased it. The fact that it cost $15 didn't help, and most players at the time were mourning Hopoo's exit and what they saw as a naked attempt to cash in. Things are going a bit better this time.

After Krafton denied its CEO consulted with ChatGPT on the Subnautica 2 mess, Krafton CEO says he consulted with ChatGPT on the Subnautica 2 mess
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/after-krafton-denied-its-ceo-consulted-with-chatgpt-on-the-subnautica-2-mess-krafton-ceo-says-he-consulted-with-chatgpt-on-the-subnautica-2-mess/
The legal dispute between Krafton and the former top dogs at Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds is now at the point where the lawyers are fully in control, sifting through the sands of everything everyone's said and done over the past decade or so in search of the Ace Attorney bomb that will blow things wide open. It's something of a drag, to be honest—a lot of he said/she said—but one interestingly odd bit did emerge from the smoke. Krafton CEO Changham Kim reportedly asked ChatGPT to help him figure out how to avoid paying the Subnautica 2 earnout he'd agreed to when acquiring Unknown Worlds.
When asked yesterday whether that claim was accurate, Krafton denied it and described the allegation as a "distraction from [the former Unknown Worlds heads] own efforts to destroy evidence." Court transcripts released today reveal something of a different story, however.

'Keep dying to goose pls help': Where Winds Meet players are being chased around by demonic geese
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/keep-dying-to-goose-pls-help-where-winds-meet-players-are-being-chased-around-by-demonic-geese/
There are a lot of tough bosses in the recently released wuxia MMO Where Winds Meet, but none of them can match the sheer power of the goose.
Check the subreddit or the Steam forums and you'll see threads of befuddled players with titles like "Goose??" and "please be careful around geese" and "throw every goose you see." Where Winds Meet isn't really a game about killing wildlife, but like the chickens in Zelda games, these geese pack a punch.

Marathon cinematic director Alberto Mielgo says the 8-minute reveal video was not made with AI and frankly he can't believe he even has to say that

Marathon is in a flat spin right now, but half a year ago—and despite some bumpiness at Bungie—Sony had high hopes: So high that it hired Oscar-winning director Alberto Mielgo to head up the creation of an eight-minute cinematic short that lays the foundation for the game's setting and story. It's very sharp and stylish, and Mielgo wants you (as in, everyone) to know that it was not made using generative AI.

Stardew Valley has left Miraland for a new collab, and it looks a little sus
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/stardew-valley-has-left-miraland-for-a-new-collab-and-it-looks-a-little-sus/
After its collaboration with Infinity Nikki, I thought it would be a while before Stardew Valley jumped into another random game for an elusive partnership. But, to my surprise, we've left the planet for a more galactic adventure this time around, though it won't be the farm life we're used to.
That's right, Stardew Valley has teamed up with Among Us to bring a bundle of 29 themed cosmetics for your little avatar, so you no longer have to rely on the sprout hat. This package includes things like a Krobus and Junimo Pet, a Mayor Lewis outfit, and a Linius outfit, among many others which will let you cosplay as Abigail, Sebastian, and Mr Qi. No matter how rogue your favourite character is in Stardew, it seems Among Us have tried to create an outfit for everyone in their Cosmicube.

Treyarch is opening up Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's Endgame extraction shooter to everyone after realising that most people probably won't finish the campaign
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/call-of-duty/treyarch-is-opening-up-call-of-duty-black-ops-7s-endgame-extraction-shooter-to-everyone-after-realising-that-most-people-probably-wont-finish-the-campaign/
Treyarch has taken some big swings with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 this year, and while not all of them have landed (what the hell is that giant dude doing in the campaign?), one has done a better job than the rest: the extraction shooter-style Endgame mode.
After finishing the campaign, players get access to a new mode, Endgame, where they can complete objectives, gain experience and loot and then exfil at designated points. The addition of extraction to the usual COD multiplayer blueprint is certainly interesting, but the only problem was that unless you complete the campaign or have a friend who has, you couldn't check it out.
That was until Treyarch made the recent change of opening Endgame up to everyone, no matter if they'd finished the campaign or not. "We've seen an awesome response to Endgame from players who've already been dropping in, so we're making it available to everyone in Black Ops 7 starting Friday, November 21," Treyarch says in an official social media post.

Arc Raiders' latest update rightfully nerfs the Venator, buffs the drop rates of Aphelion blueprints, and brings crucial overhauls to your rubber duck showcase
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/arc-raiders-patch-notes-1-3/
Until now, most Arc Raiders patch notes have been little more than bug fixes and a few crafting balance changes. Welcome tweaks, of course, but no real swings at specific weapons and items.
And that's not completely unwarranted, as I'd say most guns are pretty well-balanced right now. But while everyone's been singing the praises of the Anvil as a weapon that shoots far above its weight, the Venator has been the sleeper pick all along for PvP. Firing two shots at once, this rare pistol was capable of dropping other players blazingly fast. It was only a matter of time until the reaper came knocking, and that day is today with the 1.3.0 patch notes.
>> Embark Studios have also shared some stats of the game (link).

NCSoft launches MMO with terrible monetisation—puts out emergency broadcast 15 hours later, promising to fix it while its wax wings melt: 'We were complacent and unthoughtful'

I've seen some monetisation-related disasters in my time, but I think this one might be up there with the worst—NCSoft's Aion 2, which launched in Korea and Taiwan November 18, has caused no end of problems for the company immediately after launch. Including, potentially, causing its stock price to tank a whopping 15%.

As part of Total War's 25th anniversary, Creative Assembly is giving away its best campaign to everyone who already owns Total War: Warhammer 1 or 2, previously only available to players of Total War: Warhammer 3.
On December 4, if you own either of the first two games, you'll notice a new addition in your library: Total War: Warhammer 3. Now, don't get too excited, you're not getting access to the full game for free; instead you'll be able to fire it up and access Immortal Empires and The Lost God prologue campaign.
Immortal Empires on its own is a fantastic freebie, though. This will give you access to a campaign map that stitches together the maps from every Total War: Warhammer, and you'll be able to fight or work with every faction and legendary lord the studio has made, even if you don't own them yourself.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 might be a hell of a lot sillier than even the original Red Alert, but it still holds up all these years later. If you never hopped off the classic RTS train, I have horrible news for your productivity at work: there's an impressive fanmade browser version of Red Alert 2, easily squeezed between Slack and Google Sheets tabs.
Called Chrono Divide, it released in pre-alpha in October 2020, and has continually received updates through this year. While you might expect it to be a solo novelty, it's actually got its own leaderboard, boasts cross-platform play with Android and iPhone users, and even has limited mod support. It's all being maintained by solo developer usestrict, who goes by El Presidente on the project Discord.
As the fan game's website notes, "the project initially started out as an experiment and was meant to prove that it was possible to have a fully working, cross-platform RTS game running in a web browser. Now, with a playable version already available, the end-goal is reaching feature parity with the original vanilla 'Red Alert 2' engine."

WoW game director steps in to reassure players that its AddOn overhaul is a work in progress, and the temporary death of cosmetic mods is simply 'collateral damage that we are working on repairing'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/wow-game-director-steps-in-to-reassure-players-that-its-addon-overhaul-is-a-work-in-progress-and-the-temporary-death-of-cosmetic-mods-is-simply-collateral-damage-that-we-are-working-on-repairing/
World of Warcraft is currently chipping away at the mammoth task of calling curtains on combat UI mods—called AddOns—to try and wrangle some control of the 21-year-old MMO back. After all, if you can automate just about everything, then you need to build classes, raids, and boss fights around a batch of third-party installs, which, er, isn't good.
(...)
But given the enormity of this change, some players are getting a touch skittish. Cue game director Ion Hazzikostas diving into Reddit once more to soothe their fears, after some kerfuffles with enemy nameplates which, as one player puts it, seem "hastily put together with minimum effort":

Rust developer has 'no plans' for Linux or Proton support, says games that support them are 'not serious about anti-cheat'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/rust-developer-has-no-plans-for-linux-or-proton-support-says-games-that-support-them-are-not-serious-about-anti-cheat/
Rust has a long, rocky will-they-or-won't-they history when it comes to official support for both Proton and Linux, and with a new Steam Machine on the way it's no surprise to see those conversations popping up again. Valve's cute little cube will run SteamOS and use Proton—a compatibility layer to make Windows games play nice with Linux—but you can't play official Rust using it.
(...)
"There are no plans to support Proton or Linux," said McFarlane. "It's a vector for cheat developers, and one that would be poorly maintained by both us and EAC due to the low user base. When we stopped support for Linux, we saw more cheat users exploiting Linux, than actual legitimate users."

My prayers have been answered: Battlefield 6 Engineers can now spawn with 5 rockets, meaning you can send tanks straight to the scrap yard

Life as an Engineer in Battlefield 6 can be unforgiving, especially if you're on defense. Spending all your time, energy, and resources on killing a gaggle of tanks with a whole squad of Engineers behind them can, at times, feel like a worse fate than Sisyphus rolling his boulder up a hill; at least he doesn't get headshot by a sniper from halfway across the map when he's at the top of the mountain.
But life goes on, and you have to make do with what you have, and every so often, it does get better. I had one of these moments recently when I hopped into a Rush match and found that my Anti-Armour field spec perk now spawned me in with five RPG rockets straight away; yes, you heard me, FIVE.

Whenever a new Overwatch hero is on the horizon, everyone tries to guess which of the three roles they'll fit into. There's been a pattern ever since Overwatch 2 came out where Blizzard releases at least one tank, one support, and one damage-dealer every year.
(...)
The hero release pattern isn't a hard rule, Blizzard tells PC Gamer in a recent interview. And that's why its next hero, Vendetta, isn't a tank as many players expected. She'll be the game's first purely melee-based damage hero, a fantasy that the developers couldn't pass up.

Fortnite outdoes itself once again: the next chapter features an unfilmed scene from Kill Bill, announced by Quentin Tarantino
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fortnite-outdoes-itself-once-again-the-next-chapter-features-an-unfilmed-scene-from-kill-bill-announced-by-quentin-tarantino/
The live service path travelled by Fortnite has been unprecedented, dizzying in its ever-increasing scope and capable of springing truly impressive surprises, such as the recent Simpsons crossover. Now Epic has done it again.
The next chapter of Fortnite will feature as its centrepiece an unfilmed scene from the Kill Bill series, with the chapter itself themed around the two films and their upcoming theatrical re-release as Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.

Inzoi's getting multiplayer after South Korea's president told the director to hop to it: 'It almost felt like I was getting talked to by the company's CEO'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/inzois-getting-multiplayer-after-south-koreas-president-told-the-director-to-hop-to-it-it-almost-felt-like-i-was-getting-talked-to-by-the-companys-ceo/
Krafton's life sim Inzoi released in early access this March, since when it's had a slightly troubled time of things: initial sales were impressive, and the game receives regular updates and hotfixes, but something about it hasn't quite landed with the vast audience that still prefers the slightly cosier and odder vibes of The Sims.
Hope springs eternal, however, and now director and producer Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim has announced that multiplayer functionality is in the works for Inzoi: which, given the popularity of a certain Sims multiplayer mod, may well attract some curious life simmers. What's most surprising, however, is that the suggestion of this functionality came from the very top.

Vampire Survivors is getting a deckbuilding dungeon crawler spin-off that looks purpose built to annihilate your free time
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/vampire-survivors-is-getting-a-deckbuilding-dungeon-crawler-spin-off-that-looks-purpose-built-to-annihilate-your-free-time/
In a reveal at Xbox's Partner Preview showcase on Thursday, Vampire Survivors developer Poncle teased what's next for the series with a flashy trailer promising "next-gen graphics, an endless open world, compelling storytelling..." before saying, nah, scratch all that. How about more 2D pixel art, but this time in first person?

I am going to kill Slim Shady with mom's spaghetti
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/i-am-going-to-kill-slim-shady-with-moms-spaghetti/
At today's Xbox Partner Showcase, IO Interactive revealed its next celebrity-themed elusive target for Hitman: World of Assassination. Arriving on December 1, the free, limited-time Eminem vs Slim Shady mission sees the Detroit-based rapper recruiting Agent 47 to assassinate his young alter-ego, which has manifested on the material plane as a separate, homicidal entity.

Another Marathon playtest is coming in December, but this one is restricted to North America and it's still 'strictly under an NDA'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/another-marathon-playtest-is-coming-in-december-but-this-one-is-restricted-to-north-america-and-its-still-strictly-under-an-nda/
Sony said earlier this month that Marathon, Bungie's super-sexy but deeply troubled extraction shooter, is coming out one way or the other in March 2026, and it'll clean up the mess—that is, "make corrections"—as needed once it's out the door. But it's still making corrections before that, too, and interested run-and-gunners will have a chance to check out the latest updates in another round of playtesting set for December.

Sandfall Interactive expresses shock as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 matches Baldur's Gate 3's record-setting run at the 2025 Golden Joystick Awards: 'What the f**k is happening'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sandfall-interactive-expresses-shock-as-clair-obscur-expedition-33-matches-baldurs-gate-3s-record-setting-run-at-the-2025-golden-joystick-awards-what-the-f-k-is-happening/
Back in April, former Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider described Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as "kind of to JRPGs what Baldur's Gate 3 was to CRPGs." He was more than just a little correct, as it turns out: Two years after Baldur's Gate 3 won a record seven Golden Joystick awards, including Studio of the Year, Clair Obscur tied the mark at the 2025 event—including a Studio of the Year win for Sandfall Interactive.

Every death costs you 10 years in this open world roguelike, so your missing daughter might be a grandmother by the time you find her
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/every-death-costs-you-10-years-in-this-open-world-roguelike-so-your-missing-daughter-might-be-a-grandmother-by-the-time-you-find-her/
Every Wild West revenge story has a ticking clock, but Erosion is setting that clock ahead. Way ahead. In the open world action roguelike from developer Plot Twist and publisher Lyrical Games, every time you die a decade passes before you respawn, and climbing back out of the grave means the world has drastically changed in your absence.

After missing the last few updates, Path of Exile 2's new druid class is finally ready to play in its next update
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/after-missing-the-last-few-updates-path-of-exile-2s-new-druid-class-is-finally-ready-to-play-in-its-next-update/
Even if Path of Exile 2 has no chance of having a full release this year, you can't say it's not making meaningful progress toward that goal. In a major update next month, the action RPG will finally get a class players have been begging for since it launched in early access: druids.

Anticipated anime action RPG halts updates just 3 months after launch because of poor sales: 'The game wasn’t fun enough to sustain a consistent, healthy player base'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/anticipated-anime-action-rpg-halts-updates-just-3-months-after-launch-because-of-poor-sales-the-game-wasnt-fun-enough-to-sustain-a-consistent-healthy-player-base/
It's a videogame story that's all too common these days. "Despite a strong number of wishlists and a strong community of early playtesters," the roguelite action RPG Starlight Re:Volver failed to catch fire after its release in August, and developer Pahto Labs has laid off half its team and says the game will receive no further updates.

Over 9M dungeons have been cleared in co-op RPG Fellowship's first month of early access and now the devs are teasing big updates in the next few months
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/over-9m-dungeons-have-been-cleared-in-co-op-rpg-fellowships-first-month-of-early-access-and-now-the-devs-are-teasing-big-updates-in-the-next-few-months/
It's hard to be surprised at how much of a slam dunk Fellowship has been for RPG players who love running dungeons in groups. World of Warcraft is in a pre-expansion lull at the moment and everyone is hungry for co-op games. Fellowship couldn't have arrived at a better time.
And developer Chief Rebel has the numbers to show it. In a new developer update video, community director Hamish Bode laid out some fun numbers from the game's first month in early access.

Gearbox finally fixes Borderlands 4's infuriating class mod drops and snore-inducing Wildcards—oh, and its first DLC is now free
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/gearbox-finally-fixes-borderlands-4s-infuriating-class-mod-drops-and-snore-inducing-wildcards-oh-and-its-first-dlc-is-now-free/
While its launch was a massive success, in the weeks and months since, Borderlands 4 hasn't had the best of times. Small issues and bugs have been piling up, the Halloween event was a flop, and we've all been frustrated with the lack of an endgame.
All of this stacking up before the launch of the first paid DLC, a holiday-themed pack, certainly put a damper on the celebrations. I'm glad to report that the latest Borderlands 4 weekly update has solved a number of these hot-button issues, and Gearbox has even left us a present under the tree.

The Genshin Impact 6.2 livestream codes have arrived, or, as I should say, the Luna 3 livestream, marking the continuation of the Traveler's journey through Nod-Krai. It's not quite Snezhnaya, the realm of the Cryo Archon that we can expect to arrive in future, but Nod-Krai is an autonomous area that's technically part of the same region.

Ubisoft hasn't exploded or been bought by Tencent: Its finances were delayed because of maths nerds, AC Shadows is 'Overperforming', and it's got one upcoming game you don't know about, thank you
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/ubisoft-hasnt-exploded-or-been-bought-by-tencent-its-finances-were-delayed-because-of-maths-nerds-ac-shadows-is-overperforming-and-its-got-one-upcoming-game-you-dont-know-about-thank-you/
Last week, Ubisoft delayed its quarterly financial report and called a temporary halt to trading in its stocks. The internet immediately did what it does best: descend into wild and frenzied speculation. To be fair, it did all seem quite portentous, and in a world where Saudi Arabia bought EA and Microsoft bought Activision, the theories that Ubi had itself been acquired or undergone some kind of enormous financial calamity didn't feel totally out there.
But stand down, folks. Ubisoft's delayed financial report took place earlier today, and it turns out all that hullabaloo was—per company big boss Yves Guillemot—for perhaps the most boring reason imaginable: "We appointed a new panel of auditors, that was approved at the [Annual General Meeting] last July."
>> Guillemot took the chance to talk, obviously, about how great AI is and how they’re using it for its NPCs (link).

Team Cherry says that 'if there were ever other' Hollow Knight games after Silksong, they'd all be self-contained and 'exist alongside one another'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/team-cherry-says-that-if-there-were-ever-other-hollow-knight-games-after-silksong-theyd-all-be-self-contained-and-exist-alongside-one-another/
We're now thoroughly in the afterglow of Silksong—after years of build-up, skongsanity, conspiracy theories, and ill-advised daily news programs, Team Cherry's long-anticipated "sequel" to Hollow Knight landed and was… well, just a very good game. And more to the point, one that stood on its own eight legs. Part sequel, part self-contained romp through a whole new kingdom.
Which was not only on purpose, says Team Cherry, but a tactic the developer will be carrying on into the future. If they ever made a new Hollow Knight game, that is. That's per an interview contained in a paperback guide for the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (thanks, GamesRadar+).

Voxel Duke Nukem 3D Has Been Released and It’s Retro-Cool
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/voxel-duke-nukem-3d-has-been-released-and-its-retro-cool
Last month, we informed you about a Voxel 3D Mod for 3D Realm’s classic FPS, Duke Nukem 3D. And today, I’m happy to report that Voxel Duke Nukem 3D has been released, and you can download it. So, abandon anything you’re doing and get it.
Created by modder Cheello, Voxel Duke 3D offers one of the most faithful remastered experiences. The new 3D models retain the art style of the original sprites. They look so good that you might have trouble distinguishing them. The only way to fully admire them is by circle-strafing your opponents. When you do that, you won’t see rotating 2D sprites. Instead, you’ll enjoy the enemies in all their 3D voxel glory.
>> The article has a roughly 1 minute trailer of the mod.

Dark Souls 2 Will Soon Get RTGI And It Already Looks Glorious
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/dark-souls-2-will-soon-get-rtgi-and-it-already-looks-glorious
Dark Souls 2 fans, get ready for a treat. The creator of the amazing DS2LightingEngine Mod is currently working on a new version that will add support for real-time RTGI. Although there is no ETA on when the mod will come out, Ganaboy shared some early screenshots from it. And, as you will see, it already looks glorious.
What’s crucial to note is that this mod will add proper support for real-time Ray Tracing Global Illumination. This isn’t an “RT hack” like those we’ve seen with Reshade.
To showcase the visual benefits of RTGI, the modder shared a comparison between the game’s vanilla and RTGI lighting. On the left, we have the vanilla lighting. On the right, we have RTGI. As you can see, Dark Souls 2 looks awful with its default lighting. But with RTGI, the game can look almost as good as a lot of current-gen titles.
>> Besides the mentioned comparison screenshot, the article has other ones.

Timesplitters Rewind Is Available For Download In Early Access
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/timesplitters-rewind-is-available-for-download-in-early-access
And the time has finally come. TimeSplitters fans, get ready for a treat. Cinder Interactive has released the Early Access version of TimeSplitters Rewind. So, if you’ve been waiting for a new TimeSplitters game, you should stop whatever you’re doing and download it.
TimeSplitters Rewind is a fan-made project that acts like a “greatest hits” version of the original TimeSplitters trilogy. It includes maps, game modes, leagues, challenges, and story content from all three games. Instead of being three separate remakes, Rewind is one single game that captures the spirit of the whole series. It’s not just an HD collection—it’s its own unique title. The game features tons of content from all three games. However, the first release will focus on a smaller selection of classic content and some brand-new additions.
At launch, TimeSplitters Rewind has 28 Maps, 50 Arcade Leagues, 32 Challenges, and 91 Characters. Players can also expect to get their hands on 41 Weapons and 20 Arcade Game Modes. Up to ten players will be able to play online. The game will have both an Online and Offline Story Mode. Plus, it has a new Game Mode, called Team Elimination.
TimeSplitters Rewind has been in development hell for over a decade. So, the fact that it’s finally out is a big accomplishment. Let’s now hope that its fans will embrace and support it.
>> The article has the specs needed to run it (I’ll be extremely surprised if you can’t), and a close to 2 minutes video.

Mod fixes 17-year-old lip-sync bug in Fallout 3 and New Vegas
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/mod-fixes-17-year-old-lip-sync-bug-in-fallout-3-and-new-vegas/
Nexus Mods is currently hosting a Fallout modding marathon timed to coincide with the second season of the TV show. Fresh off a rewatch of the first season I'm replaying New Vegas right now myself, and keeping an eye on new mods like the ones that add a unique upgradable outfit for the Courier and extend the companion wheel.
The highlight so far is Lip Motion Fix, a mod that is available for both New Vegas and Fallout 3 since it deals with a consistent issue in both games. As modder Asterra highlights in a before-and-after video, lip sync is broken in both games in the exact same ways.
The dialogue generation system gets a bunch of things wrong, defaulting to a closed mouth when a character should be pronouncing the "ee" sound at the end of "modesty" for instance, or treating "town" as if it's pronounced "tone". It also has trouble with elements of the script like dashes and voice actor guidance given in brackets, and plenty of other things besides.
Which is why Lip Motion Fix has a lot of work to do, not only in fixing the multiple lip-sync problems across these two games, but being compatible with popular mods that tweak dialogue and replace actors like Brave New World does—as well as mods that change the way NPCs look. It's an impressive amount of work.
>> Besides the video mentioned, the article also has links to the other mods mentioned.

Resurrected racer The Crew Unlimited swerves to avoid yet another death, as its curators issue 'one of the most important updates we've ever released'

Open world online racer The Crew was recently resurrected by a team of enthusiast developers after its original developer Ubisoft wrote it off last year. But it turns out The Crew Unlimited was on course to return to the scrapyard relatively soon, had its new pit crew not nixed a peculiar bug that recalls the most infamous computer glitch of the 20th century.
In a post on The Crew Unlimited's website (via RPS), Crew curator whammy4 details what they describe as "one of the most important updates we've ever released." Whammy4 explains that, not long after TCU's launch in September, the team realised that "if your PC date is set to post June 2029 … The Crew stops working."
