DOOM – SPOILERS – NEW INFORMATION REVEALED ABOUT VISUALS, MONSTERS, LEVELS & NPCS

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/doom-spoilers-new-information-revealed-about-visuals-monsters-levels-npcs/

Doomworld’s member ‘MrDope‘ has been digging into the alpha files, and has uncovered some new information about id Software’s upcoming DOOM game. Given the fact that some monsters have not been officially unveiled yet (and some maps may spoil various scenarios), we’re warning you that there might be some spoilers.

DOOM ALPHA LEAKED ONLINE – NEW DETAILS ABOUT GAMEPLAY, DEMON CLASSES & MODDING

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/doom-alpha-leaked-online-new-details-about-gameplay-demon-classes-modding/

It appears that the alpha version of DOOM has been leaked online and alongside this leak, some new information about the game has surfaced. According to the new information, DOOM is internally named Zion and its engine has a similar architecture to Doom 3’s. Moreover, it has been revealed that some modding tools – apart from the SnapMap – were found. These tools were named idStudio, and it’s not clear yet whether they will be released to the public.

DOOM'S SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN AROUND 13 HOURS, ACCORDING TO ID

http://www.pcgamer.com/dooms-single-player-campaign-around-13-hours-according-to-id/

I've been thinking about the original Doom a lot lately, thanks to revealing retrospectives including Double Fine's exhaustive Devs Play, and that new Doom WAD John Romero released last month. You'll forgive me if I call the new Doom 'Doom 4' then, as it's current title is a little insulting towards a classic. The latest news about Doom 4 is that it won't feature a disappointingly short single-player campaign—according to id Software anyway. They reckon it will last you around 13 of your Earth hours, which would be a damned good length for any FPS these days.

By now, all of you know that the E3 builds of most games are special vertical slices of the game, that appear to be more impressive than their final builds. But have you ever wondered how developers are able to create such amazing demos? Well, time to get a glimpse at what actually happens with the E3 builds of most – if not all – games.

XAVIANT SEEKS HELP FOR THE CULLING CLOSED ALPHA

http://www.pcgamer.com/xaviant-seeks-help-for-the-culling-closed-alpha/

The Culling, announced last week, is a little bit Rust and a little bit Running Man: 16 players crammed into a tropical island paradise with nothing but crafting resources and 20 minutes to kill each other dead. It's being developed by Xaviant, the studio behind Lichdom: Battlemage, and it sounds like good, murderous fun, even though it's still very early in the development process. Which brings me to the point. A closed alpha is coming, and you may now sign up to take part.

A NEW DEAD ISLAND GAME MAY BE ON THE WAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/a-new-dead-island-game-may-be-on-the-way/

If the Australian Government's videogame classifiers have it right, we may soon be hearing about yet another installment of Dead Island-branded zombie-splattering good times. The classification site recently listed a new game called Dead Island Retro Revenge, which it slapped with an “M” rating for bloody violence and online interactivity.

BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE IS GETTING A NEW EXPANSION IN MARCH

http://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-hardline-is-getting-a-new-expansion-in-march/

Battlefield Hardline, EA's "most poorly planned heist ever" sim, is getting a new update in March called Betrayal. Based on the description, it's about things going even more wrong after they've already gone really wrong. It will also, assuming the screenshot included with the announcement is accurate, literally let you bring a knife to a gunfight.

THE SHIP: REMASTED'S EARLY ACCESS PLANS DETAILED

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-ship-remasteds-early-access-plans-detailed/

The Ship: Remasted is docking (you know, like a ship might) on Steam Early Access this coming Monday. If you're knot in the know, it's an HD remake of the novel 2006 multiplayer murder mystery set on a big old Agatha Christie-esque cruise liner. We already knew that release date, of course, but in these worrying Early Access times where developer communication, and indeed progress, can often be disappointing, you'll be pleased to hear that developer Blazing Griffin plans to be as transparent during the Early Access period as possible.

PILLARS OF ETERNITY'S NEXT COMPANION IS A BARBARIAN NAMED MANEHA

http://www.pcgamer.com/pillars-of-eternitys-next-companion-is-a-barbarian-named-maneha/

The second part of Pillars of Eternity's White March expansion is out February 16, and if you reckoned Obsidian would add an extra companion or two, then well done, you're right, here's a trophy, it says 'Wolverhampton Cricket Club Champion 2006' on the side but it was the best I could do at such short notice, sorry. That new companion you were so right about is Maneha, a barbarian with a pleasant smile and a benevolent nature, looking for an ancient temple for mysterious reasons.

ROCKET LEAGUE PLAYER COUNT MAY INCREASE IN THE FUTURE, DEV HINTS

http://www.pcgamer.com/rocket-league-player-count-may-increase-in-the-future-dev-hints/

Rocket League is already pretty intense as a 3v3 experience, and the 4v4 is a nerve-wracking mode for punishment seeking petrol heads. Nevertheless, Psyonix won't rule out increasing the player count even more, according to the studio's Vice President Jeremy Dunham. In an interview on the Major Nelson podcast, Dunham said they might return to the idea one day.

NEW DAYZ RENDERER GETS A TEST DRIVE

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-dayz-renderer-gets-a-test-drive/

A new renderer has been top of DayZ players' wishlists almost since it entered Early Access in 2013. DayZ tends to chug on most hardware in any built-up area—the rendering is tied to the simulation, so more to simulate means spikier motion, regardless of graphics settings. For the first time, Lead Producer Brian Hicks has shown off what some were beginning to believe was a myth. It has a way to go before it reaches the public experimental build, but the DirectX 11 Enfusion Engine renderer is a noticeable improvement.

Linux users might have been feeling a little neglected after Warner Bros. abandoned the Batman: Arkham Knight port a fortnight ago. Capcom, however, is feeling a little braver, and has released a sliver of information on the promised SteamOS and Linux release of Street Fighter 5 after long silence on the matter despite the impending PC launch: 'spring'.

About the PC Gaming Show, it was something completely different than what we're used to see at E3, and at some point it was more like a late show kind of conference: one host interviewing many people in the industry with some videos of their work and some jokes.

It wasn't great or mind blowing, but it wasn't horrible either. That said, there are lots of ways to improve it even without changing the format: less talk about how great PC gaming is and more game demos running even if they are in the background would improve it a lot. Also, it would be great for all if both AMD and Nvidia took part on it and use the show to reveal some new hardware, but I can't see them both attending to the same show and not being the central point of it.

All I know is that I'll watch it again (not live as it will be too late over here).

I didn't mind the last show and I'm hoping that they have Sean host this years show because I like his general character and charm, maybe even have TB on the show and Linus.

I do hope they also show more new games and not old ones though along with enw hardware that isn't strictly AMD based. Also I really don't care for MS bothering to show up this eyar since their plans of a restricted garden really do not appeal to me and their latest "Commitment" plans are for naught to someone like me.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

So, Steam's weeklong deals... have they ever had any good games on sale there?

I've noticed the weekend deals usually seem to be pretty good games, but the weekday ones, despite having a lot more games on sale, never seem to be as good.

As Basil has said, midweek deals are more for smaller games. That said, this week's Bloody Valentine deals are rather good.

If it's like last year's, I hope the show is a bit shorter. And I honestly don't know if bringing more people will be a good idea. Then again, it will be the second show so they can still do experiments to find the perfect formula.

AMD was already there in the first show... heck, they were sponsors!, so it's up to PCGamer to find other contributors and then convince Nvidia to come and join the party.

MSofst's commitment to PC gaming is, is... I don't have words for it. And then yesterday I read this http://wccftech.com/windows-store-terrible-support-games-microsoft-fix/

XCOM 2 POST-MISSION LOADING CAN BE SKIPPED, BUT NOT WITHOUT RISK

http://www.pcgamer.com/xcom-2-post-mission-loading-can-be-skipped-but-not-without-risk/

You may have heard recently that hitting the caps lock key during the XCOM 2 post-mission screens can cause the game to load much more quickly than it normally does. And it's true! I can't confirm this personally because I don't have XCOM 2, but developer Firaxis recently told Eurogamer that it is in fact a real thing: Hitting caps lock at the proper time will cause the game to advance almost immediately. But every yin has a yang, as they say, and in this case those dramatically improved loading times could lead to crashes.

The “Legend of the Mammoth” preorder bonus for Far Cry Primal is a series of three missions in which you drink the shaman's concoction, get super-duper high, and then become an “almighty mammoth”—within the confines of your primitive, drug-addled mind, I'm assuming—and stomp your enemies into paste. It was actually announced last October, but today we finally get to have a look at it.

Basically, $45 gets you either the "Squadron 42" campaign or the core Star Citizen offering, which is the persistent, MMO-like component. ROCKET LEAGUE PATCHED TO BAN FILE-FIDDLERS

I find the inclusion of the Wasteland arena in Rocket League's competitive playlists questionable—it doesn't make sense to me that a lone, non-standard map should be included in a highly regular, sports-like format. Its like playing one in every five NFL matches at The Oval. Some people are bothered by the wide, sloped Wasteland map more than me, it seems, and they've been deleting its files to avoid it. This, Psyonix has declared, is just not cricket.
