OCULUS’ PALMER LUCKEY: “VR WILL BECOME SOMETHING EVERYONE WANTS BEFORE IT BECOMES SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN AFFORD”

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/oculus-palmer-luckey-vr-will-become-something-everyone-wants-before-it-becomes-something-everyone-can-afford/

A lot of people described the VR as the next best thing for gaming. And while it’s kind of cool, Oculus’ Palmer Luckey took to Twitter today and tried to warn casual gamers that it will be more expensive than they think.

>>Well, well, well. It's that time when hype becomes more a problem than an advantage. I'd expect more "bad" news in the coming months before the Rift launches.

Honestly, I'm not so sure about VR anymore, at least when it comes to Oculus. We got DK2 at work (gaming unrelated), few of us tried some games and to be frank, if the game/demo was not about you sitting in the chair without any fast movement, eventually all of us got motion sickness or discomfort.

If people who tried Vive are to be believed (and Gabe himself), that's not an issue with their tech, but it seems OR does not handle that perfectly at the moment. It is a blast, to be honest, everyone who tried it was amazed and maybe this new one (not sure if it's called DK3, one with the headphones) is better and solves that cruical problem.

THE REASON FOR THE HTC VIVE DELAY WAS A "VERY, VERY BIG" TECH BREAKTHROUGH

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-reason-for-the-htc-vive-delay-was-a-very-very-big-tech-breakthrough/

HTC's Vive VR headset, being developed in collaboration with Valve, was supposed to be available to the public, in limited quantities, by the end of this year. Unfortunately, HTC put the brakes on that plan a couple weeks ago, saying it won't be released commercially—that is, to people other than developers—until April 2016. But there's apparently a good reason for the delay.

Tomb Raider is quite cheap with the 85% sale. Are there too many QTEs? And are they of the annoying kind?

Tomb Raider is a steal at that price!! The QTEs are there, but I wouldn't say they ruin the experience at all and the game still holds up well enough against current gen games, visually. I'd give it a shot!

Thanks! I guess that, at that price, it's worth it a go.

If you're fan of old TR...well, this is not a TR game. Neither game nor Lara have any similarities to what defined Tomb Raider, so be prepared for massive let down...and if TR is one of your favorite IPs, which is my case, for even something like pure hate toward SE and CD.

But...

...it is dirt cheap, and if you're willing to do bit of mental exercise and pretend that you're playing completely new IP called "Psychotic Killer" starring Moana Daft written by pretty terrible "straight to VHS" writter, then you might enjoy some of mechanics in it, like quite good cover shooting.

I've played other Tomb Raider games in the past (I remember playing the first one on PC with no sound ) but I'm not a fan. I enjoy them but that's it, so turning it into a "psychotic killer" game doesn't bother me as long as the game is fun to play and entertaining.

I guess that's not your case.

Btw, the Rift that will go on sale is "CV" for Consumer Version, opposed to "DK" that were Developer Kits. And since I'm not eagerly waiting the arrival of VR, all these launch problems aren't something that worries me. In fact, I kind of expected them.

Please excuse my bad English.

I guess if you have no attachment to original TR (unlike myself) than you might enjoy it - I rate it as "utter crap out of 5 stars" for TR game and 3.5 out of 5 as non -TR game (so that's 65-75/100)...but I'm kinda hard on games in general, and prefer star ratings since they don't seem as bad as numbers (I'll play anything with 3 or more stars, and even ocassinaly try 2.5/5 games).

As for Rift, yeah, it seems that CV1 fixes issues of DK2...seems I'll have to wait a bit to see how much better it is and if they've done anything with screens (pixels in DK2 are quite noticable)...tbh, I thought I wouldn't care much for VR before I've tried it (since I don't give a damn about 3D in cinemas), but now, if cybersickness issues are resovled, I'm willing to jump on VR bandwagon much earlier than I planned.

My main worry are the QTE, if they aren't too irritating, then I'll probably enjoy it.

About VR, don't forget about the HTC/Valve Vive headset, specially after their "big breakthrough" discovery of which we'll maybe know more at CES. I think the best approach would be to wait until all VR devices are launched, and see which one is best or has more games (not every VR game works with with every VR headset).

As someone who was a fan of the old TR games but thought they got very stale after TR3 i LOVED what they done with the Reboot.

I think at that price you really would enjoy the game. Even more so if you like Uncharted??.

No PS3 or PS4. I haven't played Uncharted.

But I know what you mean.

Yeah, I'm quite curious to try out Vive, though Star VR with 210 degree FOV (vs 100-110 of all other competitiors) and 2560x1440 per eye seems like best specs so far. I guess will have to wait at least 2nd generation of current VR race to see all the cool things in one device: 210 FOV, high enough resolution (not to notice pixels) and eye tracking.

As for support, I'm guessing Vive will have best support, given that Valve is involved (if I remember it right, I think there's some 170 games on Steam supporting it).

Breaking news! Camelot Unchained just won the most prestigious of all Massively OP's end-of-the-year awards - the one for "Longest MMO Newsletter"!

Other games will have to comfort themselves by trying to win in some minor categories, such as "GotY" or "Most Anticipated".

PlanetCoaster devs just released a "modular building" video a few hours ago, looking good so far.

I was thinking of making a thread to show the new footage but it's not even 2-3 mins worth so I'll wait until they release another clip, unless someone wants to make a thread dedicated to PlanetedCoaster news by all means go for it =D.

Nice build, but I don't even know what that building does. Are they stores?

And not too long ago you made a thread about the latest dev. diary, you could post this video in that thread and turn it into a semi-Official thread with all the info, videos, screenshots, etc. in one thread or, if you want to, ask a mod to turn it into the official PlanetCoaster thread.

Slightly off-topic, I was on the verge of buying RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 on Steam, but I'm confident that I've seen it on sale with a bigger discount than that 60%.
