HoloDust, I have to say that the 500 € PC challenge has been a pain in the ass... and a fail on my part. I had to cut so many corners that it's not even funny. Look and cry

*that table*

Yes, I had to go with a barebones chassis and couldn't include an aftermarket heatsink... although the Pentium G isn't specially power hunfry so it won't be a problem (and I'm sure the fan of the PSU will be more noisy).

Damn this is cheaper than what I have and yet better specs :O

I should ask you guys to help me set a build for a PC next year!

Basil, maybe you should start using sites to help pick up parts? Like PCpartpicker.com or this other one I found, PCHound.com

But I think we'll be pleased to help you the next time you upgrade .

Just to add a little more, let me just post this info "leaked" by wccftech (which as always, has to be taking with a pinch of salt)

The Pentium is slightly stronger than the Athlon X4, but some games won't work anymore on CPUs with only 2 logical cores, like Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Which is why I prefered to choose the Athlon over the Pentium. The era of the dualcores is coming to an end

That was my main reasoning for picking 860K for that $500 build...but then, with patch:

And there are cases like this one (this is the most extreme I've come across):

Still, I don't feel fully comfortable with Pentium Gs, unlike i3 that are still efficiently circumventing 2 cores with hyperthreading...but, I guess that's the price for better performance and upgrade option at such a low price.

Yeah, the low end market is one with hard choices. The truth is that I found the 700 $/€ build the easiest one, with easy compromises and choices, while the 500 one was the most frustrating.

Perhaps the best advise for anyone asking help for a 500 $/€ build is to save another 200 first .

AMD has announced its plans for Linux as well as their revealing GPUOpen, their answer for GameWorks.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9853/amd-gpuopen-linux-open-source

I won't say much about their Linux attemps, because they have always failed (it gave me shivers when the guys behind the "SteamBoy", now Smach Z, revealed that they were going with an AMD SoC. kitguru), but I do really hope that their GPUOpen platforms is a success and we get rid of the piece of sh!t that is Gameworks.

It still baffles me why Nvidia had to do Hairworks, which crippled the performance of even their own cards, when TressFX was there and run fine on Nvidia cards.

ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS LANDS TODAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/elite-dangerous-horizons-lands-today/

With a bang, a flash and a rather well put together launch trailer, Elite Dangerous: Horizons has touched down. At least, part of it has. Horizons refers to a 'season' of expansions rather than any one update in itself—today we're actually getting the first instalment of the Planetary Landings component. Any rocky world you find can now be set down upon and explored in the new Scarab recon vehicle. Earth-like waterworlds are to follow in a future update (and I have my fingers crossed for exogorths).

http://www.pcgamer.com/x-rebirth-home-of-light-and-40-update-are-coming-next-year/

Today the studio announced that more of both is coming in February in the form of the Home of Light expansion, as well as the major 4.0 update.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S IS GETTING ITS OWN NOVEL

http://www.pcgamer.com/five-nights-at-freddys-is-getting-its-own-novel/

Five Nights at Freddy's has a huge fan fiction community, so it makes sense that the next item on the FNaF checklist is an official novelization. It's not been directly announced, however: users have been forced, once again, to piece together evidence on the official Scott Games website.

That's great news from AMD Basil =D, finally something that will shove over the horrid gameworks. Maybe now Nvidia will actually do something about GW and sort it out. If not then it's Team Red all the way.

Wow, I wasn't aware of PCHound, that Hound-O-Matic auto-build tool is amazing if you know what you're doing and set some filters in accordance to what you would like to get out of it.

Great find.
