The second part of the news:

http://www.pcgamer.com/sword-coast-legends-is-free-to-try-this-weekend/
Should you be hankering for a cRPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe this weekend, Sword Coast Legends has you covered: it's free to play from December 17-22 (hoping to translate those free days into some discounted Christmas impulse purchases, I'll wager).
ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS LANDS TODAY
http://www.pcgamer.com/elite-dangerous-horizons-lands-today/
With a bang, a flash and a rather well put together launch trailer, Elite Dangerous: Horizons has touched down. At least, part of it has. Horizons refers to a 'season' of expansions rather than any one update in itself—today we're actually getting the first instalment of the Planetary Landings component. Any rocky world you find can now be set down upon and explored in the new Scarab recon vehicle. Earth-like waterworlds are to follow in a future update (and I have my fingers crossed for exogorths).

http://www.pcgamer.com/x-rebirth-home-of-light-and-40-update-are-coming-next-year/
You have to give credit where it's due: X Rebirth was a hot intergalactic mess when it launched in late 2013, but developer Egosoft has continued to plug away at it with both free updates and paid DLC. Today the studio announced that more of both is coming in February in the form of the Home of Light expansion, as well as the major 4.0 update.
RAINBOW SIX: SIEGE MAY GET A HARDCORE PLAYLIST IN 2016
http://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-may-get-a-hardcore-playlist-in-2016/
Rainbow Six: Siege will gets its first major patch later this month, and while the full changelog hasn't been released yet, a new post on the Siege forums has confirmed at least one change. Casual and Ranked matches will shortly have (roughly) the same HUD elements and features, meaning the only major difference between the two playlists will be the ladder.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S IS GETTING ITS OWN NOVEL
http://www.pcgamer.com/five-nights-at-freddys-is-getting-its-own-novel/
Five Nights at Freddy's has a huge fan fiction community, so it makes sense that the next item on the FNaF checklist is an official novelization. It's not been directly announced, however: users have been forced, once again, to piece together evidence on the official Scott Games website.
