Part two of the news, with lots of news rom Blizzcon:

Co-op RTS Dwarfheim is going offline, and the singleplayer mode can't be saved because nobody has the source code
https://www.pcgamer.com/co-op-rts-dwarfheim-is-going-offline-and-the-singleplayer-mode-cant-be-saved-because-nobody-has-the-source-code/
The co-op RTS Dwarfheim came to the table back in 2020 with some interesting ideas. Unlike most games in the genre, in which one player controls one base and does battle with all comers, Dwarfheim enabled groups of up to three to run their show together, each with a unique role: Builder, Miner, or Warrior. But it never really caught fire through its early access period or after its full release in September 2021, and the team maintaining it has announced that it will close up shop for good at the end of November.
I say "maintaining it," because active development ended long ago. The last game update listed on Steam was a hotfix released in October 2021, a month after Dwarfheim went live, and the only news since then related to a service outage in 2022. As it turns out, developer Pineleaf Studio dissolved shortly after Dwarfheim's full release, and publisher Merge Games says it can't make any new updates itself because it doesn't have the source code.

Tekken 8's newest fighter is a suave Frenchman with a high-tech armoury strapped to his body, and he's voiced by a French acting legend

(...)
Victor Chevalier is the latest character to join the Tekken 8 roster, a total newcomer to the series who's voiced by legendary French actor Vincent Cassel. My uncultured brain mostly associates him as the French Robin Hood from Shrek, but Cassel has done a hell of a lot more than that. As well as appearing in a number of notable French movies like La Haine, Irréversible and The Specials, Cassel gained further recognition for his roles in English-language movies like Ocean's Twelve, Ocean' Thirteen, Black Swan and even the third season of Westworld.

Metal Gear Solid 5's Quiet actress reflects on 'very revealing costume': 'I understand the perspective of people not as happy with how she was portrayed'
https://www.pcgamer.com/metal-gear-solid-5s-quiet-actress-reflects-on-very-revealing-costume-i-understand-the-perspective-of-people-not-as-happy-with-how-she-was-portrayed/
Eight years after Metal Gear Solid 5, the actor behind bikini-clad sniper assassin Quiet has spoken about the role and working with Kojima in a new interview with IGN. Actor Stefanie Joosten called making Metal Gear Solid 5 "an absolutely wonderful experience," but also reflected on "the perspective of the people that are not as happy with how she was portrayed," saying "I think the video game landscape has changed quite a lot since then."

Diablo 4's first expansion is a Diablo 2 throwback coming 'late 2024' and featuring 'a brand new class never seen before in the Diablo universe'

At BlizzCon 2023, the Diablo 4 team took to the stage to announce Vessel of Hatred, the live service action RPG's first expansion. Vessel of Hatred's announcement was accompanied by a pre-rendered trailer previewing a new take on Diablo 2's jungles of Torajan and narrated by legacy baddie, Mephisto.

Hearthstone is adding new 'Catch Up' packs containing up to 50 cards, Battlegrounds to get a 'Duos' mode early next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-is-adding-new-catch-up-packs-containing-up-to-50-cards-battlegrounds-to-get-a-duos-mode-early-next-year/
Ahead of next year's 10th anniversary for Hearthstone, initial design lead Cora Georgiou took to the stage at BlizzCon today to reveal what's coming next for both the standard game mode and its (arguably more popular) Battlegrounds spin-off.

Blizzard announces World of Warcraft's next 3 expansions: 'We ain't screwin' around,' declares Chris Metzen

https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-classic-is-getting-the-divisive-cataclysm-expansion-the-reason-most-wow-players-wanted-classic-in-the-first-place/
World of Warcraft fans got some big news at BlizzCon today with the announcement that the world-changing Cataclysm expansion is coming to WoW Classic.

World of Warcraft Classic's new "Season of Discovery" will break rules that have been in place for 19 years. Classes that were once DPS-focused will be able to heal and tank, and old raids will return with bosses and mechanics that never existed in the original version of the MMO.

Overwatch 2's latest hero doesn’t just look like the Moana guy, he directly references him too
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-2s-latest-hero-doesnt-just-look-like-the-moana-guy-he-directly-references-him-too/
Blizzard recently introduced its 39th Hero to its multiplayer shooter Overwatch 2, in the form of Mauga, a tall, thick-set Samoan tank who, players have noted, looks rather like Pixar’s portrayal of the Polynesian demigod Maui in its animated film Moana. Well, it appears there’s more of a link between the two than just a passing resemblance, as Mauga directly references Maui in his voice lines.

Embracer's implosion continues as Star Trek Online developer Cryptic Studios lays off employees
https://www.pcgamer.com/embracers-implosion-continues-as-star-trek-online-developer-cryptic-studios-lays-off-employees/
Cryptic Studios, the developer of the Star Trek Online and Neverwinter MMOs, has become the latest studio to lay off employees. The studio has confirmed that "difficult personnel changes" have made as a result of parent company Embracer Group's ongoing restructuring.

Worst fear confirmed: You can't launch Modern Warfare 3 without first launching Modern Warfare 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/worst-fear-confirmed-you-cant-launch-modern-warfare-3-without-first-launching-modern-warfare-2/
Activision's bold new vision for unifying the Call of Duty experience is off to a bad start. With the early release of Modern Warfare 3's campaign, players are discovering that launching Call of Duty HQ, the unified front end for current and future CoD titles, is required to access the new game. That might not be such a big deal if it wasn't so slow, inelegant, and seemingly pointless. Call of Duty is now a launcher within a launcher, and it sucks.
I'll explain: Before you can launch Modern Warfare 3, you have to launch Modern Warfare 2 first. Seriously. "Call of Duty HQ" is just the Modern Warfare 2/Warzone client under a new name.
>> Top that with a campaign that doesn't appear to be all that great.

The Talos Principle 2 brings in GLaDOS to roast itself for copying Portal: "You came up with that? Oh. No, wait. I did."
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-talos-principle-2-brings-in-glados-to-roast-itself-for-copying-portal-you-came-up-with-that-oh-no-wait-i-did/
The latest game in the first-person puzzler legacy of Portal, The Talos Principle 2, is getting pretty positive reception. Developed by Croteam and Devolver Digital, the game inevitably cribs some design logic and concepts from Portal and Portal 2, seeing as they're in the same genre. Normally you'd just acknowledge the giants on whose shoulders you're standing and move on. You wouldn't hire them to make fun of you.
That's just what The Talos Principle 2 has done, however, bringing on voice of malevolent AI GLaDOS and all-around voice acting heroine Ellen McClain to roast them in a short video called GLaDOS Plays The Talos Principle 2, embedded above.

Much to no-one's surprise, there's also a part three of the news, albeit shorter:

Tommy Gun Witches is a free detective adventure about exactly what it sounds like
https://www.pcgamer.com/tommy-gun-witches-is-a-free-detective-adventure-about-exactly-what-it-sounds-like/
Take a half hour or so out of your day, because though it's now November the truth is that spooky season never ends. So here's a bit of spoopiness for you: Indie whodunit detective adventure Tommy Gun Witches is a free game you can grab off of itch.io and it's a pretty good time.
Created by indie dev Cosmic Void, it's a supernatural mystery where you're clicking around and chatting up witnesses to figure out a crime that only you have the special skills to solve. (Actually, probably lots of other people could solve it, but it's your problem.

Grounded's next update will add full-on creative tools allowing custom backyards and game modes
https://www.pcgamer.com/groundeds-next-update-will-add-a-full-on-creative-mode-allowing-custom-backyards-and-game-modes/
Tiny people in a big world survival game Grounded has got a heck of an update on the way: Make It and Break It will hit on November 13th, bringing in a creative mode called Playgrounds that lets you make custom game maps and modes using tools that seem pretty dang close to whatever the development team is using themselves.

Here's a game where you're an underpaid astronaut salvaging space trash and building an orbital factory from it
https://www.pcgamer.com/get-ready-to-scavenge-some-space-trash-and-build-a-sick-space-trash-scavenging-platform/
A third-person, open world survival craft-em-up about underpaid space workers will release this week in Space Trash Scavenger. It's an interesting looking one, with the conceit that it's a world where every little planetoid and asteroid has its own little sphere of gravity, including your own self-directed and constructed mobile scavenging platform. The same kind of gravity you may remember from Super Mario Galaxy—but you've got a jetpack to scoot around between it all.

Check out this open world martial arts tactical RPG with dozens of story paths
https://www.pcgamer.com/check-out-this-open-world-martial-arts-tactical-rpg-with-dozens-of-story-paths/
After eight months in Early Access, Chinese martial arts RPG Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion will release on November 16 with a full English translation. The tactical marital arts combat, combined with open world gameplay, make this an interesting and unique one for people who're fans of the genre or who really love the world of wuxia battles.

Baldur's Gate 3's incubus love fiend has a very revealing message printed on their bondage gear
https://www.pcgamer.com/baldurs-gate-3s-incubus-love-fiend-has-a-very-revealing-message-printed-on-their-bondage-gear/
Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the horniest games of all time and, you know what, that's just how we like it here at PC Gamer (well, some of us). To play Larian's fantasy RPG masterpiece and not bump uglies with at least something is probably this game's true hero run, as there are quite frankly a lot of alluring characters to get romantically involved with and many of them want to desperately jump you at every opportunity, too, (we're looking at you Gale), often ambushing you with yet another proposition to remove your underwear when you least expect it.
And talking of ambushes and underwear, there is one character in Baldur's Gate 3's third act that it is particularly difficult to avoid doing the bedsheet shuffle with. At this point I will drop a spoiler warning to note that what follows reveals details of Act 3, so if you've yet to get there in your own BG3 run then I recommend you abandon this article now. After all, you'll want to keep this a surprise, I promise.
>> By the way, there's one player that's trying to beat the game dual wielding... salamis!?

Alan Wake 2 is a reminder why I really dislike modern gaming sometimes. 5 hours in and the games such a boring slog to play through. How this got such crazy high scores I'd never know. The first game was way more enjoyable despite being fairly repetitve at times.

Oh well, hopefully Control 2 is decent, because AW2 is became from one of the my anticipated games of the year to biggest dissapointment :I

Well, I'm loving every minute of Alan Wake 2 so far, but I also enjoy the slow exploring of similar games like some of the Resident Evil games.

Oh! Two opposed opinions. It just goes to show why you need to check several sources before taking a decision, or do it based on one that shares your same views.

I wasn't going to get the game until much later or free in the EGS but, after finding that *spoiler free* it has another open ending like the first one, it's either free on the EGS or after the third one has launched. I learned my lesson with Remedy and the first Alan Wake and Quantum Break.

I did AC4 recently and it was way better than the new ones.

So, just to be clear, you're talking about Assassin's Creed 4 and not Armored Core 4, right?

If it's the later, I can't comment because I haven't played any of them, but if it's the former, it's certainly much, much. better than AC 3, Unity and Syndicate. I still haven't tried Origins or have the newer ones.

Part of that, in my opinion, is because it's the least Assassin's Creed game of all, with a lot more emphasis on exploring the sea and the battles rather than the usual fight against the templars. With that said, the beginning is a bit harder than it should, having to chase that renegade, and the post Desmond present storyline is also a bit meh.

Oh, don't let other opinions have any sway either way. Go in it fresh... Chances are you'll have a blast with it. I really like the mood and atmosphere like with other Sam Lake games.

I came away with already completing already some action heavy games like Spider-Man 2 and CP2077 (former being more cut-scene intense) most recently. So it was a little bit of shock perhaps lol. Still getting around to complete AW2 but playing it in between MW2 and soon 3.

I always try to change genres when going from one game to another. From a fast paced one to strategy to simulator to action, etc. It's my way to prevent getting burned out or bored.

Whenever I play AW2, I'll have to remember to play it before an action or fast paced one , not the other way around.

Starfield gets a 12GB 4K Texture Pack that improves the quality of nearly all the surfaces of architectural structures
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/starfield-gets-a-12gb-4k-texture-pack-that-improves-the-quality-of-nearly-all-the-surfaces-of-architectural-structures/
Modder “XilaMonstrr” has just put out a cool 4K Texture Pack for Starfield. This pack makes all the buildings and structures in the game look way better. So, we believe you should totally get it and use it for an even better experience.
The modder upgraded all the old textures to super high-quality 4K. The original ones were way lower quality, just 1K or even 512 resolution. So, in order to improve them, the modder used special AI tools like chaiNNer and ESRGAN. The end result maintains the original art style of the game. Plus, the new textures look sharper.
>> The article has some comparison screenshots.

STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II gets a new HD Texture Pack
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/star-wars-jedi-knight-dark-forces-ii-new-hd-texture-pack/
In November 2019, we shared an ESRGAN AI-enhanced Texture Pack for STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. And today, we bring you yet another HD Texture Pack for this classic Star Wars game.
Modder ‘vurt’ created this new HD Texture Pack that makes the game’s textures look much better. The modder used AI tools to make the original textures higher quality, just like the previous mod. As such, the new textures retain the game’s art style.
This HD Texture Pack overhauls over 620 textures, and it is compatible with OpenJKDF. So, in theory, it should also be compatible with Star Wars Jedi Knight Remastered 3.0.
>> This article also has some original vs modded screenshots.

Halloween's over but you can still scare yourself witless with this VR recreation of Amnesia
https://www.pcgamer.com/halloweens-over-but-you-can-still-scare-yourself-witless-with-this-vr-recreation-of-amnesia/
There are some things in life that I admire but can't claim to properly understand. These include the literary works of James Joyce, the vegan lifestyle, and people who want to play incredibly scary games in VR. I like horror games, but there's a limit on my tolerance, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent landed right on that limit when it slithered out of Frictional Games' culvert a terrifying thirteen years ago. Hence, the mere idea of playing that game in VR makes me shudder.
But if you are the kind of person who likes to put on white VR goggles and later take off brown pants, let me introduce you to Sclerosis: an Amnesia VR remake. To be clear, this is not an official remake of Frictional's landmark horror. But it is also a bit more than just a mod. Sclerosis' ModDB page describes it as a "1:1 recreation of the entire game in Unity engine, making VR possible."
This overhaul included "completely redesigned controls" that facilitate VR controllers, enabling you to physically open doors and pull levers with your virtual hands. It's been years since I played the original Amnesia, but I know that it had highly tactile controls to begin with, so I can totally see this element working in VR.
Alongside the VR implementation, Sclerosis also adds a "safe mode" that removes the aggressive monsters from the game so you can enjoy the atmosphere without losing your wits to the horrors that prowl castle Brennenburg. This is something that Frictional introduced in later games like SOMA, but never added to the original Amnesia, so that's a welcome inclusion. It adds a PSX mode too, just in case you want to play the game like you've smeared Vaseline all over your screen.
>> For better or worse, the article only has a couple of screenshots.

Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh may be a complete mess at launch
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/tintin-reporter-cigars-of-the-pharaoh-may-be-a-complete-mess-at-launch/
Microids will release Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh later today. However, it appears that this new adventure game could be a complete mess at launch. Or at least that’s what its own developers hint at.
Pendulo Studios has issued a statement just a few hours before the game releases, claiming that those who play the game at launch won’t be able to fully enjoy it. Now I don’t know what the game’s issues currently are, but it should run fine on PC. Or at least its graphics are not that great from what I can see in its launch trailer. So, perhaps the game has lots of bugs?
The developers claimed that they aim to fix this situation in a promptly manner. The first major patches for the game will come out in the coming weeks.
>> Once one does it and gets away with it, the rest will follow. Not cool Microids & Pendulo.

But they also shared more general thoughts on where gaming is at right now, and where it'll be in the next 30 years. One developer, former EverQuest 2 creative director Raph Koster, painted a particularly bleak picture of gaming's future.

If you played through Baldur's Gate 3 in Tactician mode and thought "I've not been brought to tears enough," then I might have some good news for you. A new achievement spotted in the GOG version of Larian's RPG teases the return of Honour mode, which Original Sin players might recognise as the series' hardcore, permadeath difficulty.

Starfield community patchers are frustrated by the game's lack of mod support: 'A lot of stuff is really broken compared to the other games'
https://www.pcgamer.com/starfield-community-patchers-are-frustrated-by-the-games-lack-of-mod-support-a-lot-of-stuff-is-really-broken-compared-to-the-other-games/
A group of modders behind the Starfield Community Patch have expressed their frustration with the game’s lack of mod support, which is inhibiting their attempts to fix the many bugs present in Bethesda’s space RPG. They go on to claim that modding does not appear to be a priority for Bethesda's latest RPG at all, despite the company’s support for and, to some extent, reliance on the modding community to adjust and improve their games.
The claims are made in a new report from Eurogamer, which delves into the curious project that is the Starfield Community Patch. More than just a group of enthusiast modders looking to fix Starfield’s problems, the Starfield Community Patch is specifically an effort to create an unofficial patching that is open source and community-owned. As explained by one of the patch’s founders, Timothy "Halgari" Baldridge, unofficial patches for Bethesda games have previously been “directly controlled by one or maybe two people" who have complete oversight over what bugs are fixed and what aren't.

A tech analysis of Cities: Skylines 2 proves it's rendering WAY too many polygons, making Cyberpunk 2077 look like Minecraft in comparison
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-tech-analysis-of-cities-skylines-2-proves-its-rendering-way-too-many-polygons-making-cyberpunk-2077-look-like-minecraft-in-comparison/
A technical analysis of the graphics rendering in Cities: Skylines 2 has identified the reason why the performance is just so poor. Put simply, the game is trying to draw the cityscapes using a shocking number of polygons, with few systems in place to reduce the amount when it's not needed. It's not something that should be happening in a modern game but the recent breakdown also suggests changes within Unity are partly to blame, too.
>> It's worth a read to realize how messed up is the game. The breakdown comes from a Reddit post, also in the article, in case you prefer to read it from its source.

Cities: Skylines 2 boss says there won't be paid DLC until 'performance issues are fixed'
https://www.pcgamer.com/cities-skylines-2-boss-says-there-wont-be-paid-dlc-until-performance-issues-are-fixed/
Following its launch in 2015, the original Cities: Skylines spawned a surprising number of DLC packs: a whopping 62 in total. But if you're wondering when Cities: Skyline 2 will start flinging paid DLC your way, you're in for a bit of a wait. Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen said today that paid content won't arrive until the game is running better.
>> Given the previous article, it should take a while then... and I don't know how much time will Paradox give them to fix it before they demand for such DLC.

StarCraft could return, according to Blizzard president, but not necessarily as an RTS

During BlizzCon's opening ceremony, Blizzard celebrated its games with a cinematic that focussed on the here and now, with nods to World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone and the developer's latest game: Warcraft Rumble. With this focus on the present, one of its most important series went ignored, much as it has been for years. StarCraft didn't get a look in.

These are undeniably important games, not just for diehard RTS players, but Blizzard has moved away from the series. After a decade of StarCraft 2 support, Blizzard decided that it was time to stop developing its flagship RTS, and since then has had little to say about the series. The co-op survival RPG that took Steam Next Fest by storm has a release date, and it's soon-ish

Co-op survival RPG Enshrouded had a killer run in October when it was the most played and wishlisted demo at Steam Next Fest. I was one of the people playing it, too: Keen Games' voxel-based open world RPG ticks a lot of boxes with me, like exploration, building, crafting, hunting, farming, and even grappling hooks and wingsuits. Heck, I even complained like a spoiled child that Enshrouded's eight hour demo wasn't long enough for my tastes.
So the question on everyone's fingertips is: when do we get the rest of it? Soonish. Keen Games has finally announced the early access launch date. Enshrouded will release on January 24, 2024.
