AMD is giving away Company of Heroes 3 with select Ryzen 5000 CPUs

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-is-giving-away-company-of-heroes-3-with-select-ryzen-5000-cpus

As much as I enjoyed the old company of heroes, I'd just wait till February before upgrading as AMD will be giving out Star Wars Jedi Survivor with their CPUs

I honestly don't understand what is AMD doing with that. The processors that aren't selling, and therefore need promotions, are the 7000 ones, yet they come up with this bundle for the 5000 series. And on a strategy game, where CPU matters to take care of the AI!

Probably have too many in stock and need to get rid of them. I think AMD hoped to sell more of them during the holidays to clear inventory and now have still too many at hand.

Square Enix is trying their hardest to prevent people from buying the game.

It's very annoying to be a fan of Final Fantasy. On one and, I enjoy the games. On the other hand, I have to give money to people that brush off my favourite platform.

Square-Enix lost me years ago. I think the last game of theirs (not Eidos or one of the western studios they undersold months ago) that I bought was the remaster/remake of FF V on Steam, and the last new game was probably FF X or the Dragon Quest they launched for the PS2 (was it the eights? I think it was).

Anything that has come out from them since then hasn't picked my interest.

I can confirm, it's DQ 8. And I don't like that particular one because it's censored compared to the original release.

I have both DQ Builders in my wishlist because I prefer mouse+keyboard for that sort of games, otherwise I'd buy them for the Switch, but that's about it.

Well, if that's the case then they really messed up. The 7000 series should have been available in far more quantities than its old processors, even if that could have pissed off some buyers wanting an in-socket upgrade.

My memory worked fine! Yay!

And I remembre that I didn't finsh that game. I had to do a lot of grinding, probably because I wasn't playing all too well, and got bored of it.

Well, those GPUs do look destroyed. But the last driver was released December 21st so, why is it happening now, three weeks later?

The driver is unlikely causing it. The video had like 60sh cards for repair and 48 of them exhibited the same type of failure. He asked all of the customers a bunch of questions and the pattern that matched all of them is the driver version. But imo, it's unlikely the cause but it does seem there is an issue of some kind going on. It is a bit concerning as the warranty will start expiring by the end of this year so hopefully, they get to the bottom of it assuming it's not one off sort of a deal.

So overall, my gaming GPU upgrade path so far has been:

Nvidia 9800GTX+ > Radeon 4870 > Radeon 6870 > Nvidia 970 > Nvidia 1080 > Nvidia 3080 > Nvidia 4090

That 3 time jump feels more steep compared to my original projection of what I wanted to jump towards (1080ti>3080 and hold off for 5 more yrs)

But I guess seeing as how you jumped quicker to the 4090 than you did from 1080 to 3080, you'll be more than sorted for the next 5 yrs like I've been with my 1080ti (though at this point I'm obv going to struggle with AAA games like I was last yr and will do so until I bite that bullet).

Yea I do plan to keep my 4090 for longer than I kept my 3080. Things just lined up pretty well for me to check off wanting a Halo product as far as getting a promotion from my job which meant some bonuses plus funds from mining when crypto boom happened and such. If the performance was similar to Ampere where it's like going from 3080 to 3090 was 10-15% faster for $1500 USD, I likely would have skipped Lovelace altogether. Also helped that because the 40 series are priced to high and Ampere cards barely got a discount outside of the 3080 Ti/3090/3090 Ti, I was able to sell my 3080 for a good amount.

But I doubt I'll be upgrading to a 5090 or 5080 from my 4090. I'll likely keep this until at least the 6xxx series. Mainly cause we are at that point where the 4090 is so ahead of the consoles that until next gen consoles come out, the visual upgrades on buying a new gpu will likely be minor even with RT on. Hopefully people will continue to not buy the 4080/4070 Tis though and the prices come down. If the 4080 comes down to $700 which may be unlikely, it would be a great upgrade for you.

Tbh, I will be waiting regardless, but I'd rather settle for what I originally paid for with my 1080ti, that being £600+, for a 4080, instead of 700+.

Even though the gains from going from a 1080ti to a 4080 would be large on a spec sheet and game benchmark, I already know the 4080's limits so far, and with RT it's not really that great, esp when it is paired off against the 90 card, and then anything lower than the 4080/90 just goes downhill, so if that's how it's gonna be, I'm in the mind to expect myself waiting to either snag a 3080 at 600+ and wait another 4yrs and see how 5000 compares (because by then the 5000 series should see better gains than the 3000 series, which would make the jump more substantial for me), or wait for the 4080 to go slightly below 700 and snag that then and wait with that card till the 6000 series shows up.

Either way I'm still playing the waiting game, and I really wish I wasn't forced into doing this for the 3rd time in a row now.

New The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod adds high-quality/high-polygon NPCs
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/new-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-mod-adds-high-quality-high-polygon-npcs/
Modder ‘ace’ has released a must-have mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. This mod is a lore-friendly NPC Overhaul based on High Poly Head, Vanilla Hair Remake and Beards of Power. And, as you can see below, it can significantly improve the quality of the NPCs.
As the modder noted, every NPC was edited by hand. Some of them were only changed slightly while others have been resculped. Makeup edits of each NPC were adjusted and most NPCs have a much more natural look now.
>> There are only some screenshots of this mod.

The original Zelda in VR would have exploded my 6 year-old brain
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-original-zelda-in-vr-would-have-exploded-my-6-year-old-brain/
A Japanese modder has managed to create something that will look simply remarkable to those of a certain age: The NES Legend of Zelda working beautifully in VR from a first-person perspective. "I feel like I'm in a dream of those days when I only knew the 8-bit graphics of the NES," writes creator Sugary Noe.
Looking at this thing, you know how they feel. Hard to credit now of course but Zelda looked amazing for the time, and the strength of its visual design is arguably best-shown by the fact that much of what this game introduced remains core to the series—including Breath of the Wild, which returned to the original's more open style.
The game was first released in 1986, and the mod is for QuestZDoom and here is being played on a Quest 2 (first spotted by Gamerant).
