I was hoping that would be the case. The story of the first one was pretty good imo even if there were a lot of bugs and the world wasn't up to par with the likes of GTA.

There's probably more news to come from the Playstation event.

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Bully Maguire pushes his way into Spider-Man Remastered
https://www.pcgamer.com/bully-maguire-has-pushed-his-way-into-spider-man-remastered/
The first wave of mods for Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered have been largely character-focused, with fans swapping our hero out for alternatives as diverse as Kermit the Frog and Saul Goodman. Getting back to Spider-Man canon itself though (and no I'm not talking about Uncle Ben's gravestone), the biggest meme from the Sam Raimi movies has finally found its way to Insomniac's New York.
The Bully Maguire meme spawned from Spider-Man 3, the last of Raimi's trilogy, wherein Peter Parker for a time wears the symbiote suit. This messes with his head and our normally mild-mannered and loveable nerd becomes, for various amusing sequences in the movie, an emo dickhead.

Star Wars Galaxies revival approaches 1.0 with a 'secretive Jedi unlock system'
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-galaxies-revival-approaches-10-with-a-secretive-jedi-unlock-system/
Star Wars Galaxies was a 2003 MMO that, in the words of Chris Thursten, almost changed the world. It let players take jobs and find places for themselves in the Star Wars universe, whether they wanted to be traders, smugglers, bounty hunters, entertainers, or a wide variety of other options. It didn't last, closing down in 2011 after a series of disastrous patches, revamps, and alterations.
However, and you knew there would be a however, its fans won't let it die. Multiple revivals emphasizing different aspects and eras of Star Wars Galaxies exist, including Star Wars Galaxies Restoration, which has been in a kind of early access since May of 2021. SWG Restoration is about imagining what might have been if Galaxies had continued development, incorporating the space-travel expansion Jump to Lightspeed and parts of the New Game Enhancement patch, while letting players build unique characters using 32 skill trees, found their own cities, decorate houses, join factions, and visit places like Naboo, Kashyyyk, and Tatooine.
The team behind SWG Restoration has announced its plan to release version 1.0 on September 17, which will include Mustafar, the lava planet where Obi-Wan and Anakin fought their extremely silly duel. Version 1.0 also adds over 30 questlines, server-wide progression, various bug fixes and quality-of-life upgrades, and what the team calls "our secret and individualized Jedi unlock system".

Wednesday news, part two:

Triangle Strategy comes to PC next month as our strategy RPG cup overfloweth
https://www.pcgamer.com/triangle-strategy-comes-to-pc-next-month-as-our-strategy-rpg-cup-overfloweth/
Triangle Strategy, Square Enix's first brand new stab at the strategy RPG in years, is about to land on PC where it belongs. Square announced on Tuesday that the turn-based tactics game hits Steam on October 13, sandwiching it right in the middle of two other fairly similar games from Square. At the end of this month it's launching real time tactics game The DioField Chronicle, and then in November we're getting the remastered Tactics Ogre: Reborn. If you're a glutton for number-crunching, grid-based Japanese RPGs, you are eating good this fall.

I've never seen art design like this in a survival horror game

Saturnalia, the ancient Roman festival to Saturn held during the winter solstice, represents the birth of a new sun. The death of the past. It eventually formed the spiritual center of what we call Christmas. My time with the game of the same name did not feature merry elves, bright candles, and cheerfully wrapped gifts, however. Instead I crawled around a dreamlike maze of an imaginary Italian town called Gravoi, evading a horrible monster and trying to solve a mystery.

This Wipeout-style anti-gravity racing game looks like a literal blast
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-wipeout-style-anti-gravity-racing-game-looks-like-a-literal-blast/
There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you’re playing a racing game and you hit the seam just right coming out of a turn, scorch over some ridiculous boost mechanic, and just… fly . Upcoming indie Turbo Force, from newcomers Blitzkrieg Games, looks like a good opportunity to do just that… in a year or so.
>> It reminds me more of F-Zero than Wipeout, but ok.

A huge nerf to one of Destiny 2's most powerful exotics got left off today's patch notes

Titan mains, it might be time to hang up your favourite hat. Following a hotfix that rolled out to Destiny 2 earlier today, players began noticing that the Loreley Splendor Helm was no longer functioning as it had pre-patch. In fact, it appeared to have eaten a substantial nerf. The text for the item's main perk still reads: "When you are critically wounded with full class ability energy or when you cast a Barricade, create a Sunspot at your location that has improved restoration effects."

This weird comedy horror game from March went mostly unnoticed
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-weird-comedy-horror-game-from-march-went-mostly-unnoticed/
Running for my life down a dim and cluttered hotel hallway, I'm laughing my head off. That's the experience of The Upturned, a comedy horror game a lot of us missed when it came out on Steam back in March.

Wil Wheaton is trying to become a god in Star Trek Online
https://www.pcgamer.com/wil-wheaton-is-trying-to-become-a-god-in-star-trek-online/
I've never been able to kick my Star Trek Online habit. There are better MMOs, but there's no other game that offers so much Trek. And while the more recent obsession with Discovery and the modern Mirror Universe hasn't really been doing it for me, the frequent nods to classic storylines and characters keeps me coming back. With the latest story update, Ascension, Wil Wheaton's Wesley Crusher joins the ranks of Star Trek alumni pottering about in the MMO.

COD Modern Warfare 2 wants your phone number before you can play on PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/cod-modern-warfare-2-wants-your-phone-number-before-you-can-play-on-pc/
Activision Blizzard has released the system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's open beta, including the rather oddball insistence that PC players "must" have their phone number linked to their Battle.net or Steam account. I doubt Bobby Kotick's going to be using it for late night booty calls but, all the same, why does a game need your mobile number to run on your PC.

https://wccftech.com/vietnamese-retailer-asking-over-2000-us-for-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-pre-orders/

"There's no proof of whether the retailer actually has the cards right now but according to our friend over at Twitter, I_Leak_VN, the retailer had also used the same pre-order prices for the RTX 3090 so it might seem like we will be getting final pricing of around $1500 US for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090."

We will see if it actually ends up being $1500 but I wouldn't doubt if its more.

Exclusive - Intel XeSS ML Upscaling - The Digital Foundry Tech Review - XeSS vs DLSS vs Native!

Some notes

- Turning on XeSS at 4k adds 3.4ms of frame time on A770 via XMX (lower the better)
- Turning on XeSS at 4k adds 3.8ms of frame time on 3070 via DP4A (lower the better)
- Turning on DLSS at 4k adds 2.1ms of frame time on 3070 via Tensor Cores (lower the better)
- There is a difference in image quality between turning on XeSS on Arc vs Ampere where Ampere is worse but he will cover it in a future video
- XeSS has Ultra Quality mode which DLSS/FSR 2.0 doesn't have
- DLSS generally has better image quality than XeSS. There are areas when XeSS is fairly close and areas where DLSS is a lot better.
- DLSS holds up better at lower resolutions than XeSS

So as usual, Nvidia remains on top but Intel has a good showing. He didn't do any tests against FSR or on Radeon GPUs yet however which is pretty annoying to say the least. Overall, if you have RTX and DLSS is an option, use DLSS. If DLSS isn't an option, then XeSS might be a good option.

Babylons Fall has got to be Platinum's worst piece yet. I liked the Korra game they made, but back in 2013 I thought it was pretty janky of Platinum, compared to what they made before that game, but BF takes the cake and runs home with it too.

Really think Platinum should stop splitting themselves up for different projects, and just pool the entire team together for one project at a time, because they clearly can't do bayo and another 3rd party game, without one of them turning into utter shit.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I have a really hard time trying to make sense into this idea that Nvidia will have two different RTX 4080 GPUs with so different specs on top of it. It simply makes no sense whatsoever.

Just call it 4070 and stop with this nonsense.

Yeah, that means that it will be near impossible to reach those clocks unless you have a good custom waterloop, or you have a 360 AIO cooler with fans set at max speed.

It's disappointing.
