@pokoko: DX12 will solve the problem AMD has with multi-core scaling, but if I'm not mistaken, only for DX12 titles. Current DX9, 10 and 11 titles won't benefit from it.

About the processor, I know it costs a bit more, but I'd go with an Intel i5 because not all the games scale well and Intel has an advantage here. Something like the i5-4570 would be enough unless you want to overclock.

As for which card to go, for AMD I'd try to get an R9 280X or, if you're lucky, a cheap R9 290 before they get phased out. The new 3xx series are rebrands with a higher price. For Nvidia the best spot is the GTX 970 because the 960 is a bit too slow for its price. You could try to find a 4GB version of the GTX 770 too, because they are faster than a 960 and cost about the same.

Besides that, you can skimp a little on the motherboard, even the cheaper ones are more than good enough (again, if you don't plan to overclock) and case. Get a good power supply of at least 500W and I'd recommend to get at least 8GB of RAM.

To give you an idea of how new games run, Techspot is a good place becaue they do benchmarks with not only different videocards but also different CPUs. I'll link their reviews for GTA V and The Witcher 3 because those are the most demanding titles right now.

GTA V: http://www.techspot.com/review/991-gta-5-pc-benchmarks/

The Witcher 3: http://www.techspot.com/review/1006-the-witcher-3-benchmarks/

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Honestly, I really want an i5.  Then I won't have to worry that much about how my processor works with this game as opposed to that game.  There have been too many games that have performed worse than they should have on AMD processors.

Time to hit Newegg.

My pleasure to help. Other users have made threads asking for recommendations, maybe you should try to do one to get more opinions.

Also now on Newegg the i5-4590 is cheaper than the 4570. Weird but true.

And search around the web! Try Amazon and another stores, you can end saving a few dollars that you can later invest on better hardware or in games

dp....

i am realy pissed... the rework broke Europa universalis 4. you HAVE to buy the latest dlc to use the core mechanic of the building rework... thats bullshit and paradox goofed hard with this. the rest of the rework is realy nice and the dlc features are nice(just the host needs the dlc in mp)

Wow. That's really bad. Do you know when it got broken? Because if it's recent, maybe they are still working on a patch or something.

Edit: Nvm. I've read the Steam comments and it seems to be a deliverated move from the developer.

Can you revert to a previuos patch to solve it?

its not bugged , they broke the game with the rework and the dlc.  you need to upgrade towns to build more buildings(thats part of the rework) but upgrading the town is part of the dlc, not of the free patch.

so you patch your game and the reworked mechanics break alot of nations if you dont buy the dlc.

i dont know why they did this, it makes the basegame worse without giving real reasons to buy the dlc.

the dlc is worth the asking price without this feature beeing part of the dlc and not the free patch, after playiyng the mp for some hours with a friend that has the dlc, i can say, the dlc is one of the best eu4 dlcs and i will buy it after the end of the month(payday) so it doesnt realy matters for me, but its just a stupid mistake by PI and it will not help to broaden the fanbase.

Yes, I've edited my post after reading the comments on Steam.

Shitty move from Paradox who could have left the original game as it is and only make the changes for those with the DLC.

nono, the changes are great! but they should have packed one little part of the dlc in the free patch.  its not realy a feature, its part of a core mechanic.  and i dont think PI had the intention to break the game, they just underestimated the importance of the towndevelopment.

on the other hand they gave alot of things out for free that could have been part of the dlc(features and changes that dont break the game if you play without them).

I understand that the DLC is good and that the changes can improve the game (I'll live it that way because while you like them, I'm sure some don't). But the problem is for those like you who don't have the DLC and are being affected by it.

For you it's not a big problem because you will buy the DLC, but if someone just doesn't want (or can't) to buy it, then they are screwed. That's not how Paradox should have done it.

They have done a lot of things right, but with this particular one, they have done it wrong.

Well, first Fury X benchmarks are rolling in - as predicted after that leaked AMD bench, it's about as fast as 980 Ti, latter usually being faster in 1440p. Bit disappointing, but maybe better drivers will do something for it, like when 7970 launched.
