AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) to launch this year for PCs

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-fidelityfx-super-resolution-fsr-to-launch-this-year-for-pcs

"He confirmed that the company still has a lot of work to do and it is still evaluating the actual technology behind the upscaling algorithm."
"It is not FFS, nor it is FXSS, the actually officially acronym for NVIDIA DLSS competitor is FSR, Scott Herkelman confirmed during the interview:"
"You don’t need machine learning to do it, you can do this many different ways and we are evaluating many different ways. What matters the most to us is what game developers want to use because if at the end of the day it is just for us, we force people to do it, it is not a good outcome. We would rather say: gaming community, which one of these techniques would you rather see us implement so that this way it can be immediately spread across the industry and hopefully cross-platform."

This is certainly gonna take a while to come out by the sounds of it.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announces “Intel Unleashedâ€Â webcast on March 23rd

https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-ceo-pat-gelsinger-announces-intel-unleashed-webcast-on-march-23rd

I swear they are making it sound like Nvidia is holding devs at gunpoint, just to make use of DLSS and other features, at least going by the "f at the end of the day it is just for us, we force people to do it, it is not a good outcome" part.

Sounds like it'd going to take forever, and by the time it even comes out, Nvidia's going to be another step or two ahead, making their offering seem dull...again.

I think they need to spend far less time talking about spreading this and not forcing that (also less jabs), and spending more time just working on this tech that was supposed to be out around the time DLSS was. I just hate AMD talking shit and coming late to any party, and claiming next time it'll be better. Like they brought their A-game with their CPU's, just bring it with the GPU's.

Yea it is gonna be a hard time for RDNA 2 overall until RDNA 3 comes out. Well on paper anyway since they are able to sell as many as they can make loll.

I think it's just a situation where Nvidia saw what was coming next for the GPU industry which was Ray Tracing and built their GPUs around it from the ground up. AMD on the other hand was playing catch up with Raster and because of that, they are now in a position where they are behind in next generation tech.

I think RDNA 2 is more of a stepping stone for AMD. More so than anything, they needed to catch up in Raster against Nvidia in all fronts and for the most part, they did. And luckily for them, being behind in Ray Tracing and not having DLSS isn't affecting them very much thanks to a number of games still being Raster heavy and the stock issues.

The biggest question is going to be whether or not AMD can have all these technologies ready in time for RDNA 3 and take on Nvidia's Lovelace. Cause as the list of games that implement Ray Tracing and DLSS grows, it will get harder to recommend AMD GPUs. And you just know that Nvidia is gonna have something big cooking in Jensen's oven after seeing RDNA 2. But say what you will about AMD, I had my doubts they could even take on 3080 in Raster yet here we are.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Epic Games Store 'parties' will be kind of like Discord channels
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-games-store-parties-will-be-kind-of-like-mini-discord-channels/
In a post about upcoming Epic Games Store social features, the company introduced a new "party system" it's working on: a way for players to group up and chat in and out of games. Somewhat like Discord channels, party "windows" will allow Epic Store users to chat with each other whether or not they're in a game together, and won't depend on one person staying logged in. Parties will support voice, video, and text chat.
Epic's vision is for cross-platform parties where you can "share your latest highlights to convince your friends to play a game with you" or "kick off a match with only a few friends in the group while being able to continue talking" to everyone else. So, modern chat rooms, more or less.

Valheim mod adds Diablo-style epic loot drops
https://www.pcgamer.com/valheim-mod-adds-diablo-style-epic-loot-drops/
It'd be nice if all the greydwarf mobs and trolls you're killing in Valheim occasionally dropped something a bit more interesting than resin and shaggy blue leather. A modder is working on making that happen with the Epic Loot mod, created by randyknapp (and currently in early development) which adds magic items with new powers than can be found randomly in drops and chests.

Valhalla's 1.2 update, which adds a bunch of things including being able to transmog gear, should have been good news for players. But many are pissed at how Ubisoft went about implementing the feature.
