Monday news, part two:
Ashwalkers is a grim outdoor hike from Dontnod co-founder Hervé Bonin
https://www.pcgamer.com/ashwalkers-is-a-grim-outdoor-hike-from-dontnod-co-founder-herve-bonin/
Nameless XIII, a new outfit from the co-founder of Life Is Strange developer Dontnod, is setting off on a long, miserable trek with its debut title Ashwalkers.
Set 200 years after a volcanic cataclysm smothered the world in grey, Ashwalkers (previously titled Cendres) takes your party of explorers on a trail through the disaster-wracked wilderness to find shelter for their people. Granted, they might not make it—there are 34 different endings to discover, with each trek taking about 2 hours assuming you don't take a surprise detour into an untimely end.

https://www.pcgamer.com/hitman-3-dlc-is-definitely-coming-io-interactive-says/
The Hitman trilogy is complete and work on a new James Bond game (which could also become a trilogy) is underway, but developer IO Interactive isn't done with Agent 47 just yet. Executive producer Forest Swartout Large told The Gamer that Hitman 3 DLC is coming, although it's not quite clear exactly what form it will take just yet.
HROT is a new retro-FPS that looks like Dusk in the mid-80s Soviet Union
https://www.pcgamer.com/hrot-is-a-new-retro-fps-that-looks-like-dusk-in-the-mid-80s-soviet-union/
A friend of mine told me today that HROT was about to launch on Steam Early Access, after which I spent several minutes trying to figure out what HROT meant without asking for help. I eventually discovered that it's not an acronym but an all-caps title for a new indie FPS set in a small Eastern Bloc country that's suffered some sort of ill-defined disaster in 1986.
BioMutant developers went silent for so long so they could fix bugs without crunching
https://www.pcgamer.com/biomutant-developers-went-silent-for-so-long-so-they-could-fix-bugs-without-crunching/
BioMutant was announced in 2017 and was supposed to be out in 2019, but that didn't happen—in fact, nothing happened, until 2020, when developer Experiment 101 came out of hiding to reassure everyone that work was still ongoing. There was still no sign of a release date, though, until earlier this week when the studio finally committed itself to launching in May.
The extended silence was a bit strange, but studio boss Stefan Ljungqvist told IGN that it was for a good reason: There were a lot of bugs to fix, and the studio was determined to avoid crunch while doing it.
>> Given how long they went silent, the game must had a ton of bugs.

Also in: Shuv-its (no pop required!), a manual rotation option if you don't like winding up, NPCs that dole out optional challenges, and more. Check the patch notes for the whole story.
Uh oh, this ghillie suit is literally turning Call of Duty: Warzone players invisible
https://www.pcgamer.com/cod-warzone-invisible-skin-glitch/
What's better camouflage than a ghillie suit crafted out of grass and moss? A ghillie suit made of bugs.
Beware, Call of Duty: Warzone players: a five-month-old purchasable skin is turning players invisible. Players wearing the bugged outfit will appear partially invisible to enemies the further away they get, making it the most effective ghillie suit you could ever ask for.
Lawsuit claims Valve is abusing its market dominance to keep prices high
https://www.pcgamer.com/lawsuit-claims-valve-is-abusing-its-market-dominance-to-keep-prices-high/
A lawsuit filed earlier this week accuses Valve of using its effective monopoly on the PC gaming marketplace to force developers to sell their games on all other digital storefronts at the same price as they're offered on Steam. The suit says a "Most Favored Nations" provision in the Steam Distribution Agreement, in which a seller agrees to give a client—in this case, Steam—the best terms that it makes available anywhere else, means that other storefronts, like the Epic Games Store or the Microsoft Store, cannot compete on price, and thus are unable to effectively compete at all.
Riot mocks Valorant hackers, says it will ban anyone who 'rides the cheat bus on the highway to hell'
https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-mocks-valorant-hackers-says-it-will-ban-anyone-who-rides-the-cheat-bus-on-the-highway-to-hell/
Riot's latest blogpost about Valorant reveals some of the lengths the developer is going to in order to combat cheaters. Even before the game was released, catching cheaters has been one of Riot's major priorities—not unreasonably, given how widespread cheating can be in competitive shooters.

https://www.pcgamer.com/rust-is-getting-delivery-drones-so-your-clan-can-be-murder-amazon/
Survival game Rust is getting delivery via drone in the coming patch, due to release February 4th. Rust producer Alistair McFarlane posted a video to Twitter of the drones in action as they leave a central drone station and fly to nearby vending machines to retrieve purchases. "The terminals will only be accessible within safezone(s) - can not be player crafted," he said when explaining how it works.
With a Black Lotus sold at $500k, Magic: The Gathering hits a new level
https://www.pcgamer.com/with-a-black-lotus-sold-at-dollar500k-magic-the-gathering-hits-a-new-level/
An alpha Black Lotus, the most infamous Magic: The Gathering card ever produced, was sold at auction on eBay for $511,100. Organized by trading card investment firm PWCC, it's the first single Magic CCG card to sell for over half a million dollars at open auction. Other collectible card game cards may have sold for more, usually unique single-printing cards, but if they did there's no public record of it. Past Alpha Black Lotus cards have gone for as much as $250k.
Warner Bros. filed a patent for the Mordor games' nemesis system
https://www.pcgamer.com/warner-bros-filed-a-patent-for-the-mordor-games-nemesis-system/
As pointed out by Mark Brown in his latest Game Maker's Toolkit video, Warner Bros. Interactive have applied for a patent on the nemesis system used in Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War—the system that personalizes orc NPCs in response to actions players take against them. Specifically, it's a patent for "Nemesis characters, nemesis forts, social vendettas and followers in computer games". Brown compares it to the patented floating arrow that told players where to go in Crazy Taxi, which was part of the lawsuit Sega filed against Fox Interactive in 2003, after The Simpsons: Road Rage used the same mechanic. (The suit was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.)
Plague Inc: The Cure is out right now and totally free
https://www.pcgamer.com/plague-inc-the-cure-is-out-right-now-and-totally-free/
True to their promise from last year, the developers of Plague Inc have released a free DLC for owners of the original game about finding a cure to a global pandemic, rather than being one. "Created with the help of world health experts from all over the world including the WHO, CEPI and GOARN, Plague Inc: The Cure is an engaging and timely simulation of a global disease response," say Ndemic Creations in the game's description.
Mysterious Total War: Warhammer teaser hints at something, honestly your guess is as good as ours
https://www.pcgamer.com/mysterious-total-war-warhammer-teaser-hints-at-something-honestly-your-guess-is-as-good-as-ours/
A 50-second teaser video was posted across Total War: Warhammer social media late yesterday, and the speculation engines have begun revving up to speed. It shows a wizard of the Celestial College—the Empire's astrologers, who manipulate a wind of magic called Azyr—watching as a comet flies across the night sky. The comet then becomes the head of a constellation called Grungi's Baldric, "Revered by soldiers, dwarfs, and dimwits aplenty," the wizard sneers.
Garry's Mod successor Sandbox is looking lit in new development update
https://www.pcgamer.com/garrys-mod-successor-sandbox-is-looking-lit-in-new-development-update/
Sandbox, or s&box, is the heir apparent to Facepunch Studios' Garry's Mod. We first started hearing about it again last year, thanks to a meme-y tweet from Garry Newman, but since then its gotten a proper website with real development updates. The latest development update goes quite in-depth, explaining progress on Ragdolls, various sandbox tools like wheels and thrusters, chatboxes, pretty water, breakables, and perhaps most impressively: The sun.

https://www.pcgamer.com/factorio-11-allows-beautiful-blueprint-flipping-other-quality-of-life-changes/
Obviously release hasn't stopped the vast and sprawling beauty of Factorio from growing, and the 1.1 patch just now out is packed with polish that makes the game simpler than ever to play. Among the updates are a feature to flip blueprints, a long-desired fantasy of Factorio fans. You can just... flip em. It's lovely. We've also got neat stuff like smart-building for conveyor belts, multithreading for conveyors, a brand-new interface for trains, and slick control tricks for Spidertron robots.

https://www.pcgamer.com/silent-hill-returns-as-dlc-for-a-party-game/
Silent Hill obsessives are used to being disappointed by now, so here's the latest announcement related to the classic horror series that isn't a new game or even a remake of the classics: Silent Hill will feature in an upcoming DLC for multiplayer party game Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals, which should be out in February.

Empire of Sin's next patch is taking aim at its biggest problems
https://www.pcgamer.com/empire-of-sins-next-patch-is-taking-aim-at-its-biggest-problems/
Empire of Sin was a big mess when it launched late last year. A great premise and a developer that seemed to understand the prohibition era was not enough to save it from the mountain of bugs and fundamental issues, unfortunately. Another patch is on the horizon, though, and this one's set to tackle some of the most glaring problems.
Battleborn servers shut down for good
https://www.pcgamer.com/battleborn-servers-shut-down-for-good/
Remember Battleborn? In decline from near-enough the moment it arrived, Gearbox's doomed hero shooter finally went offline for good this weekend.
Battleborn had been on minimal life support for some time. The game's final update was in October 2017, just 19 months after release. Two years later, Gearbox prepared for the end with the removal of premium currencies. Last night, the studio finally pulled the plug on the ailing game.
