I remember someone say on the internet recently that not even Ampere will be enough for across the board 4k60fps. I guess we can confidently say that with Ampere we finally entered the age of 4k. So when is 8k gonna be a thing? 5 years?

vivster said: I also trust the DF numbers, though the selection of games is horrible. But I see a way bigger problem here. With the shaders and TFLOPS already being totally messed up we now have to throw DLSS into the mix which massively improves performance. So what I'm expecting to happen is that when the big wave of tests comes out people will be underwhelmed by the numbers because they do not scale well in games without RTX or DLSS. Then we'll have Big Navi coming out, which will no doubt be an absolute rasterization beast, and will come close to the 3080 and in some games might even eclipse it. The red trolls will have a field day and it will put an overall damper over everything despite Ampere being a giant leap forward and completely trouncing AMD in any game with RTX and DLSS. |
The Teraflop numbers were only theoretical to start with and not real world anyway.

Crusader Kings 3 only launched yesterday, so when I popped over to the Steam Workshop I wasn't expecting much. A few tweaks here and there, maybe. Now I'm drinking my way through Europe as an undead arsehole in a total conversion mod inspired by the World of Darkness and Vampire: The Masquerade.

Almost 100 mods have already appeared on Steam Workshop, though most of them don't approach the scale of Princes of Darkness and The Bronze Age, yet.
>> I'd check the article to know more about 4 of those mods, and then head to the Steam Workshop for check the rest.

Space Crew is heading towards disaster this October
https://www.pcgamer.com/space-crew-is-heading-towards-disaster-this-october/
Bomber Crew, the calamitous World War 2 bomber sim, is a tricky FTL-like where you've got to run risky missions and try to stop your plane from blowing up. It's tough but fun, and it's also getting a sequel. Space Crew shares even more with FTL, set as it is on a spaceship perpetually hurtling towards disaster. A new features trailer appeared today, along with the release date: it's coming on October 15.

Iron Harvest delayed on the Epic Games Store, preorder refunds are being offered
https://www.pcgamer.com/iron-harvest-delayed-on-the-epic-games-store-preorder-refunds-are-being-offered/
Iron Harvest, the alt-history RTS with the steam-driven battlemechs, launched today on Steam and, I'm happy to say, is quite good. The massive mechs can slow things to a crawl, as we said in our 82/100 review, but despite that it's "a spectacular and rock-solid" addition to the genre.
But while the Steam release appears to be business as usual, something odd and as-yet unexplained has happened to the planned Epic Games Store release.

Log on to Steam from an Australian account and you'll be greeted by a banner for Crusader Kings 3 saying, "NOW AVAILABLE!" But click through to its store page and you'll be told, "In agreement with the publisher, Crusader Kings III is currently not available for purchase in your region." I tried to buy it from the Paradox Store in Australia, and at the checkout was greeted with the message, "Crusader Kings III is currently not available for purchase in your country. We're working on resolving this as soon as possible."

Pendragon will let you experience King Arthur's last battle again and again in September
https://www.pcgamer.com/pendragon-will-let-you-experience-king-arthurs-last-battle-again-and-again-in-september/
80 Days and Heaven's Vault developer Inkle is almost done with its latest narrative romp, Pendragon, which retells the tale of King Arthur's final battle against his rubbish son, Mordred, through story-driven tactical scraps. It's coming on September 22, but first there's a new trailer that you can watch above.
Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements are coming soon, and it won't take up 200GB
https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-system-requirements-are-coming-soon-and-it-wont-take-up-200gb/
During Nvidia's RTX 30 series reveal, it mentioned some of the challenges created by next-gen games because of their ballooning size and complexity. When the subject of 200GB games came up, it was accompanied by a Cyberpunk 2077 screenshot, which immediately ignited speculation about the RPG's HDD footprint.

Yeah, but think about it. If you say the shaders advertised are full shaders and believe Nvidia when they say their shaders can now do double the calculations, wouldn't that mean we have to expect quadruple the power when the shaders are doubled? Even with bad optimization we'd still see something like 3x the performance. Yet, despite having more than double the shaders and a noticeably higher clock we're not even at double the performance. That can only mean that the Ampere shaders are not comparable to Turing shaders, yet they are both called "shaders". Wouldn't that be false advertisement? |
Well, Nvidia's Tech Days will be later this week so we'll soon find out soon what's real and what's not.

I would have to assume that getting a 3090 in October shouldn't be an issue.
