"A Core Gamer is someone that spends a significant amount of money on games that have a large client and require fairly expensive hardware such as a dedicated game console or a PC. There is another category for High-spending, low end users which would be those that play browser/social network type games, even though they spend a lot of money. The core gamers can be split into multiple levels:

    • Level 1 users are those that spend a lot on their game hobby ($1,000 or more a year for PC, $500 for console).
    • Level 2 users are those that spend $50 or more."

"

  • "Hardcore" PC gamers who spent more than $1000 in a year nearly doubled, reaching approximately 10 million total users (up from ~6m in the previous year).
  • PC gamers who spent $50 or more were counted at roughly 85 million (up from ~72m the previous year).
  • Console gamers who spent $500 or more (including hardware) numbered approximately 84 million (up from ~37m the previous year)).
  • Console gamers who spent $50 or more numbered about 41 million (down from ~50m the previous year - many of these users migrated to the '$500 or more' category due to launches).

That's not a fair comparison.

So basically anyone who bought a new gen console becomes a level 1 customer, but if someone just upgrades his gfx card then he's only qualified as a level2?

BS!

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I don't think the GPU would be counted, it only mentions including hardware for consoles....

PC gaming drives Q4 revenue

Nvidia has posted its fourth quarter financial results of fiscal 2014. Ending on January 26, 2014, the manufacturer revealed its reported revenue was $1.14 billion, an increase of 8.6 percent compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013. Also, during the fourth quarter, GeForce GTX GPU revenue saw an increase of almost 50 percent, according to Nvidia's report.

Attributing fourth quarter growth to PC gaming, Nvidia president Jen-Hsun Huang said, "Quarterly revenue came in well above our outlook, driven by PC gaming, capping an outstanding year for our GPU business.”

Yet there were other factors as well, Huang revealed, "Tesla and Quadro both achieved record annual revenue. GRID cloud technology is being evaluated at hundreds of large enterprises worldwide. And Tegra K1 is disrupting the auto industry, paving the way to self-piloted cars. The groundbreaking work we are doing in visual computing is expanding the opportunities for our GPUs."

The report also revealed that Nvidia’s total revenue for fiscal 2014 was $4.13 billion. However, this number was lower compared to fiscal 2013 which saw a record $4.28 billion for the company.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2015 Nvidia is expecting its generated revenue to be around $1.05 billion.

Are you sure about that?

I mean, spending $1,000 a year without including hardware... is there that many games released every year? lol

F2P whales and Steam sale feinds....

I am not sure about it, but it seems to be strange to specifically mention that the console numbers include hardware and not mention for PC if hardware is included in both.

Given that the limits are different from both platforms, I think it's fair to assume that it includes hardware. After all, PC games are cheaper than their console counterparts, so why would they put $500 more on PC if it isn't for the hardware?

Also, a gif

Why? Because f*ck it!

i spend about 2k a year on games (usd) and about 4k a year on hardware on average, though this year i have spent about 10k already x___x
