Huge gains, but in order to believe them I hope that that 780 GHz card is the 780Ti.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Yay benchmarks! I want your babies.

Waiting for Catalyst 14.1 though, is proving to be painful. :(
I want the frame pacing fix.

After Thought burns its puzzles into your retinas. No, really

Comment

“Welcome to level one,” the voice of an electronic British lady tells me. “Please stare at the dot with the countdown at the centre of your screen. Please note that any discomfort is intended, the level information is now being burned into your retinas.”

After the countdown reaches zero the level’s outline fades away and you must guide yourself using the rapidly fading after image that’s scored into your vision.

Prisonscape has you aim for the top of the pecking order; using drugs and shivs to get there

Comment

The makers of Prisonscape have taken the stories from Oz, Orange is the New Black, and The Wire and rethreaded them into a JRPG pixel art prison game. Quests are replaced by jobs and they see you doings things like snitching on gangs, making shivs out of bed springs, and organising a hit.

It looks extremely promising.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Zarx no worries with the news posts! I was the only one who didn't like the all in one posts.

Anyways mantle seems great and all but the gains aren't really that impressive...

My 560ti is still doing its job!

Any recommendations for a decent gaming keyboard and mouse? Something not overly expensive and ridiculous with a million buttons...but nothing too cheap either where i would be better off with a normal Microsoft mouse/keyboard combo.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

Well. I am disappointed in Mantle at this early stage.
I see next to no performance difference at all on my main system, I want my money back! :P

Seems I ain't CPU limited enough. - With the 3930K at 4.8ghz and a resolution of 7680x1440, I am squarely GPU limited, still. Even with Quad Radeon 290's.

My AMD system is an entirely different matter however.

Still, it's only in Beta with Beta drivers and only the first implementation, I fully expect AMD to improve their GPU workflows to extract more GPU performance in time.

If you want the Beta drivers...

Matador trailer shows Syndicate-style city brought to its knees by mechs

Comments1

The great leader is dead. You have one night to liberate the nine city districts of Solo Nobre. Saddle up and ride your mech into town, Matador.

Influenced by Xcom, Syndicate, and Battletech, Matador looks like something that would have been very comfortably released in the 90s

Minecraft snapshot 14w05b's spectator mode is "only slightly buggy maybe sometimes"

Comment

The ‘invisible blocks’ Mojang added to Minecraft last week sound like the ultimate “Forgot my snapshot” excuse. But they really are there - completely transparent, but tangibly in the way. On the one hand, they can conduct redstone currents, aesthetically neatening up circuitry no end. On the other, they’ve introduced adventure map makers to that most dangerous tool of ‘90s game design: the invisible wall.

All of this was academic, however, while these transparent blocks appeared “much darker” than the world around them - rendering them partially visible. That’s now been fixed, and a new multiplayer spectator mode introduced to boot.

The Walking Dead: Season 2's next episode is "just around the corner"

Comment

Just Around the Corner could be the name of a Telltale Walking Dead episode, couldn’t it? All false hope ready to be proven deeply ominous in retrospect. In fact, The Walking Dead Season 2’s second chapter is named A House Divided. Really haven’t the foggiest what that refers to.

Perhaps Clem’s fallen into a fear-induced fever dream, and the game’s taken a sideways leap into domestic drama? Actually, that sounds really good. Lee’s in the kitchen, flipping burgers. Hey, Lee! Kenny’s in the yard, barking angry ripostes at the dog. And Lilly? Oh: Lilly’s shot the postman, in a misguided bid to save us all. A typical morning, then.

Riot Shield down: League of Legends devs testing "severe" nerfs to popular starter item

Comments1

Thank goodness for Doran: the blacksmith whose fondness for the simple and affordable over the ornate and arcane has saved many a budding champion in League of Legends. His Shield, Ring and Blade are staple items of LoL’s early game - but that might be about to change. Doran’s Shield is messing with harass-based champions, and Riot have decided it has to stop.

We want to coach a Dota 2 team formed from PCGamesN readers

Comments18

Here’s the worst thing about Dota 2: your first few days with it will suck. The Dota 2 newbie is doomed to frustration, confusion, and countless deaths.

It’s a mathematical certainty. Consider: Valve’s MOBA currently has 106 heroes, with more to come. The average hero has four unique abilities, and some have even more. That means roughly 420 separate abilities you will need to learn before you really begin to understand Dota 2. In your first games, more likely than not, you will see a flurry of particle effects, a fizzle and a pop, and you will be dead.

But I can help with that. I want to coach five of our lovely readers who have never touched a game of Dota 2 in their life. Sound fun? Read on for all the details.

Minecraft has been sold to PC gamers on 14 million separate occasions

Comments1

Minecraft has now sold more than the Myst series. More than that, it's less than 350,000 copies away from riding into Red Dead Redemption’s town (on a 1.6.1 update horse, natch) and declaring the environs sufficiently cramped to merit a duel.

In terms of copies sold, it’s now about as valuable as Raving Rabbids is to Ubisoft, or Metroid is to Nintendo.

Hooray: Titanfall's mystery beta won't exchange access for pre-orders

Comment

If it were my job to be unhelpful, I’d list all the things I can’t tell you about the Titanfall beta. I can’t tell you when it starts, for instance, or when it finishes. I can’t tell you what colour the skybox will be, or whether you’ll be there. I can’t tell you if its match-end scripted sequence culminates in a direct assault on Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer component, where mechs will stomp about as final payment for Activision’s fall-out with Infinity Ward.

Can’t tell you any of that. But I can tell you that Respawn won’t ask players to buy in early to become a beta tester.

Starcraft II tournament being sponsored by Ender's Game on Blu-Ray, of all things

Comments2

Lionsgate and OddLot Entertainment are sponsoring an upcoming Starcraft II tournament to plug the Blu-Ray and DVD release of sci-fi romp Ender's Game. It's a first, a movie studio sponsoring an e-sports event, and it's a little bit peculiar.

The tournament, awkwardly titled "The Ender's Game on Blu-Ray Tournament", will be broadcast on Twitch and MLG.TV between February 5th and 22nd with 32 participants and $20,000 in prize money up for grabs. You can vote for the final 4 of 16 competing in the MLG leg of the tournament between February 3rd and 5th.

Dark Souls II PC preview: better second time round

Comments1

With the opening two hours of Dark Souls 2 under our belt, you'll likely be unsurprised to hear that the bulk of that time was spent dying, respawning, dying and trying again. Welcome back to the realm of sadistic design for the masochistic player. As third-person, melee-biased RPGs go, this is not going for everyone.

Journeying through Dark Souls 2's Drangleic feels like a warped reflection of what we've already seen from Dark Souls' Lordran and Demon's Souls' Boletaria. You're still up against when it comes to staying alive and fighting enemies, just as much as you are when it comes to figuring out a route through a world with no help from signs, maps or the few NPCs not thirsting for your blood.

Robots in disguise: Functioning Starscream built in Kerbal Space Program

Comments1

Who is the best Transformer? It's a rhetorical question, as Starscream is objectively the best transformer. Who can forget his distinctive voice or the compelling "will they, won't they" relationship he had with Megatron?

Hooptiej has shown their love for the greatest Transformer of all time by building him in Kerbal Space Program. Two wonderful things collide, like a cake which has another cake on top of it instead of icing, and it actually flies. Not well, but for a few seconds, Starscream gloriously streaks across the sky.

IdrA leaves the game he hates: No more Starcraft II streaming from Greg Fields

Comment

Greg "IdrA" Fields today revealed his intention to stop streaming Starcraft II and go back to school. "Over the last 6 months or so streaming revenue has been nearly nonexistent, in part because of awful ad rates and in part because of continually declining viewership," writes Fields. "Casting sc2 tournaments pays very poorly, when considered a significant part of a full time job. A couple thousand dollars for a weekend of talking about a game seems nice, but when it happens maybe once a month it is not a good way to live."

Although he might get involved in e-sports again, for the time being he's taking a break. "I'll be going back to school. I have no plans to stream dota, or any other game right now, as I get very few viewers for it and I feel dumb inviting people to watch me be bad at something."
