Forums - Sony - For Japan, the PSV/PS3 combination is turning out to be a smart move

One of the many knocks that vita haters place on the system is that somehow having the same game on the PS3 will someone hinder/dilute its ability to sell.  Im here to say that notion is slowly going away, at least for Japan.  Even though the pattern has been going on for at least two years, the recent release of the Last of Us has reminded me that the days of high profile games causing increases in PS3 sales are over in Japan.  Meanwhile, medicore games are causing big shifts in weekly vita numbers as the handheld continues to build its library.

PS3/V versions of games will sell higher than if either was sold alone and 2013 will be the last year in which PS3 equivelants of games released for both systems will sell more.  2014 will usher in with publishers will moving to a Vita version only and if they decide to publish for both, the Vita version will sell more.

Also all the games below will be system sellers for the vita despite other versions:

Toukiden

Dragons Crown

Final Fantasy X/X-2

Super Heroine Chronicle

J Stars Victory Vs.

God Eater 2

Around the Network

It just needs to do better, and not just 10k a week, it needs to be doing 40k+ a week and over a number of weeks (in Japan). But it also needs to be doing better in USA. Hoping they can pull it off.

I love the vita and have had one since launch, but i can totally understand why others have held off, its a shame because its the best handheld ever made.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I think you're right and that the reason the Vita game base is starting to grow is because developers have realized that they can create a Vita/PS3 game without the limitations that the PSP imposed. Now we're seeing a lot less new games being developed for the PSP but instead being announced for the Vita/PS3. Even the niche anime genre the PSP has commanded is beginning to shift. The new Rozen Maiden game, for instance, is PSV.
