I second this.

To be honest, i would rather someone modest like AQL or gung ho got them. Then we could keep having the games ported over. Tecmo wouldnt hurt aswell, but i doubt they are drowning in money. Nintendo is a good possibility. Sony would be ok, but i doubt they have the money.

I'm just afraid namco, squeenix or capcom buy them, because then we wont see anymore persona or SMT games out of japan.

NISA would probably publish Atlus's games outside japan

Most developers who have publishing houses in the US don't allow a third party publisher to license their games.  Both XSeed and NIS have attempted to gain the license of the Tales games and were refused.

It's astounding how many people are pushing Namco Bandai as their preferred publisher though.  They might be releasing Tales games in the US right now, but just look back at how many Tales games and how many we've actually received in comparison.  The same thing would happen with anything Atlus' developers push out except for Persona or SMT, but most of the SMT games would also probably not be released.

Soul Hackers has only sold  50,000 in the west.  If it Atlus was owned by Namco Bandai I can guarantee this game would have never made it over.  Vesperia selling 280,000 didn't seem to be enough for them to have later released the PS3 version over here when they have just about the entire game localized already.

I wish they get purchased by CD Project :(

Damn this is hella sad.

Gungho would be the most likely buyer, after that would be Nintendo, Namco, then Capcom. Sony isn't likely to buy them soince they don't really buy any Japanese studios. Frankly, as long as Konami, MS, EA or Activision does not get them, I'm fine. Also, preferable that Marvelous does not get them since they also went through economic troubles recently.

But you're saying Nintendo is the second most likely? When was the last time Nintendo bought a Japanese studio? (Answer: Monolith Soft, 2007)

Although I hope Nintendo will end up buying them.

No to Square Enix either unless we want a mobile phone game of Persona

They already released 3 Shin Megami Tensei games to the iPhone (in Japanse..)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shin-megamitensei-2/id529790939?mt=8

I understand but that is not Persona, there is a lot of series under Shin Megami Tensei title and that is a re-release not a new game. While Square Enix is focusing development on mobile games, as they have said recently. I would rather see the next Shin Megami Tensei on a console or dedicated gaming handheld device. :)

the most recent one is on the 3DS :P

Ugh yeah I know and you totally miss the point of the discussion. :/

Whoever buys them would be a better company for it. I personally would prefer Sony.
