102GB/s ? Then you're obviously talking only about the extremely small 32MB of eSRAM. The main DDR3 memory has only 68,3GB/s.

lol No, just sarcasm.
"Less heat"
Yet the PS4 is smaller than X1 and more powerful.

At this very moment, yes. But over time, it will get more expensive than GDDR5. Microsoft will have to buy legacy DDR3 RAM as the modules simply won't be produced in masses anymore. Same story as with DDR and DDR2. Expensive as hell nowadays. GDDR5 on the other hand should become cheaper and cheaper over the whole generation. It's a lot more future proof.
About the technical stuff: I think GDDR5 wouldn't have hurt the Xbox. But I'm sure it will be ok without it. GDDR5 alone won't decide anything. But you have to admit that the whole concept of the PS4 just seems a little bit more thought-thru than that of the Xbox One. Unified RAM without eSRAM or eDRAM sure will result in a lot less headaches for developers. That's why I think in the next generation the PS4 might become the lead platform for most third party titles. That alone will make sure games look just a little bit better, same as now on 360.
Of course, I could be wrong. But the way I see it, Sony just did a really good job on the hardware. Not saying the Xbox One is bad. It's just not as good as the PS4 from a hardware perspective.

In terms of next gen console GPUs, below are the specs: PS4 GPU Cores - 1152 Xbox One GPU Cores - 768 and PS4 Peak Shader Throughput - 1.84 TFLOPS Xbox One Peak Shader Throughput - 1.23 TFLOPS
Xbox One GPU has 33% less cores and 33% less peak shader throughput. Due to this, it needs less video bandwidth than PS4. This leads us to video RAM: PS4 Video Memory Bandwidth - 176 GB/s Xbox One Video Memory Bandwidth ( DDR3 + sRAM cache) - 102 GB/s
Xbox One would not benefit at all from having 176 GB/s GDDR5 bandwidth due to lower GPU throughput. If they gave the Xbox more GPU cores it would be a different story however its RAM bandwidth is perfectly proportional to the GPU performance. Its no secret that Xbox One has a less powerful GPU, but because it skipped on GDDR5 memory it can enjoy better system RAM, much less power consumption and heat, and cheaper manufacturing cost. Just an FYI to those that say Xbox One is at a disadvantage for not having GDDR5 RAM. |
I bet AMD feel stupid for using GDDR5 on there Radeon 7770, if theyd of talked to MS hardware designers they could of saved alot of money.
Also is this a stealth troll lol? Doesnt matter if they chose crap ram, cos they have a crap GPU meaning its cheaper for them to make and thats why its more expensive!

1. AMD doesn't feel stupid because they only had a 128 bit memory bus on the 7770.
2. No its not a stealth troll. Its a thread explaining that Xbox One is a perfectly balanced console in terms of performance without GDDR5.
