Thank you? No. I'm happy for the guys that otherwise would have missed out but they cost me money.

That whole friends becoming family and sharing online games would have been cut after the first few months.  Why would any 3rd party company agree to such policies if that would cut their sales by a decent amount?  I believe it was just some made up bs to try and get people to still like the DRM/used game policy they were trying to introduce.  I don't think that would have ever happened because anyone can see the potential abuse of such system.

So now you just need to have friends in real life to borrow/exchange discs.

Some people actually think the whole family sharing was going to work out exactly like MS described. Either there were more caveats involved (which is why they pulled such a "revolutionary" system before it even launched) or there was a mass exodus of 3rd parties shunning the feature en-masse.

I think it was a combination of both. We have been seeing more and more conditions attached with the family sharing as days go by: people need to be on your list for 30 days, only SP games can be played simultaneously, conflicting info, etc. Just from common sense you can also see that if 3rd parties are already against you reselling your game even once, they would in no way, shape or form ever be happy with you being able to essentially share with 10 people where one person plays a SP game with you at the SAME time. SP game sales would pretty much be cut in half with his feature. 3rd parties would go insane.

This all seemed like MS's last ditch effort to calm the storm with some shallow fix, but it obviously didn't work.

They are aimed at you... i just caught a dagger that was lying on the floor...

I understand people feel attached to that idea, and they have their points, but before commiting to a stance they should always look at both sides of the coin .

The facebook rage, the overload of gags, lots of hatefull comments seem to have come from people who only saw one side of it...

Gotta admit, MS didn't help with their bungled message and PR statement almost aimed at infuriating people. "Backyard compatible is so backward!" "We have this great product call the 360" etc, I feel personally that a lot of the stuff they're trying to impliment aren't something they came up with in the Xbox division but rather a more broad directive by MS in general. It wouldn't have taken a genius to figure out exactly how unpopular their policy could potentially become and mob justice needs no reason.

An example to look back on is the 'new coke' fiasco, that the general reception of new coke wasn't actually that bad, the problem was PR and the lack of choice. Consumer weren't mad because there was a new coke, they were mad that the choice was taken away from them to either choose new coke or classic coke, there was only new coke or nothing #dealwithit, and many poeple dealt with it by simply not buying coke altogether.

To further illustrate this point, they did a blind test during the later years between a mixed group of self professed classic coke and pepsi lovers with a couple of new coke fans... a whole lot of them did not pick the actual beverage that they claim to love (most of them picked new coke), and some became extremely angry after being confronted with the truth.

In the end its all about choice.

Well i'm particularly happy about the developments. This way the X1 will work anywhere in the world and not just in selected territories like originally intended and I think they can return the family sharing thing for digital games in the future.

Totally agree with you MS was acting really snobish and wait..."Backyard compatible" when did ...sounds awesome why is that backwards damn it that Don Matrick is a prick.

Back on point, well i doubt "upper MS" didn't had anything to do with it but truth is this industry has had the same business model for far too long, any change to it in anyway is welcomed (Steam). The problem with this particular change was entirely due to a muddled PR messaging, the having choice part or the best of both worlds is certainly a better proposition, but im sure it would have raised alot of issues.

Both sides benefit the consumer, one side is pro publisher, the other is pro retailer having both would piss off both. But i think the technical hurdles would have been far worse  impacting the overall OS "simplicity".
