Even if i can´t stand him, i agree with some parts. But this isn´t new, the problem started in 2006 when Sony and Microsoft started to make gigantic-cost games. Now the costs keep going up and developers KNOW that if they don´t do something (DRM, etc.) they will go bankrupt.

Then cut costs.

Something like Minecraft puts all these AAA games to absolute shame. This should be a stern message to the industry to get their shit together.

Minecraft is the worse example ever. Admittedly, it is a good game. But do you seriously want all games to have minecraft's production quality? Lol, I can't imagine playing a game such as the Last of Us with minecraft graphics. Horrible, horrible example.

And used games help to buy new games.... every time I sell my games I use that money to buy news games... that how the used market works.

Not everyone enjoys playing games like Minecraft. Some people use their consoles exclusively as a Call of Duty machine. So these AAA big blockbuster games are still wanted moreso than games like Minecraft. I do think that publishers shoudl do a better job and not create games that require 5million sales to break even. There are only a handful of games that can achieve such sales.

QFT.

I agree with him that more studios will close, but not because of used games.

No it isnt.....

Its proof you dont need 50 million dollar budgets and 100 million dollar advertisement campaigns to sell 10+ million units.

All you need is a great idea and good gameplay

wtf is wrong with this dude. used games is expansionary to the industry as well as disc based. if it were not for those 2 I for example would buy probably 2 or 3 games a year and wait for them to be on sale. Where as now I buy maybe 20-30 games new only because I can regather the value of them back. more money circulating in the industry means everyone wins. The clown is lookign at it black and white

Someone tell Cliffy B that its the business decisions that the industry make is the one that is not sustainable. Grabing on the used game market is just a band-aid compared to overexpectation that leads to sky rocketing budgets.

When games that sells in the millions fail to meet their targets. You know there is something wrong from within.

What really shocks me about games nowadays aren't the development budgets.  The marketing costs of the so called "AAA" games  are much higher than the costs of making the games.

i blame call of duty

Me too.

But games like Assassin's creed and Fifa are also exemples.

In a few years disc games will be archaic. I want digital games and I want to be able to share them. Now that looks like it's gone. :(
