Something like Minecraft puts all these AAA games to absolute shame. This should be a stern message to the industry to get their shit together.

Not everyone enjoys playing games like Minecraft. Some people use their consoles exclusively as a Call of Duty machine. So these AAA big blockbuster games are still wanted moreso than games like Minecraft. I do think that publishers shoudl do a better job and not create games that require 5million sales to break even. There are only a handful of games that can achieve such sales.
