Forums - Microsoft - The best explanation (so far) of the "cloud" advantage for Xbox One

I've posted a few threads about the clouds in the last few days and in them there were many posts challenging the "cloud advantage".

Here is Respawn talking to Giantbomb about the cloud which I think sums up the cloud advantage Microsoft has quite nicely.

"Pretty amazing technology when you think about it...unlimited data use"

"Microsoft and Google are the only two ...that have "the cloud""

"They got data centers all over the world with tonnes of fast machines"

"You couldn't make this game without having that dedicated server support"

"We won't get all the niceties on the PC (version) as on the Xbox One"

interesting. it would be nice to see a product from this cloud technology

"Microsoft and Google are the only two ...that have "the cloud""
really?
I think that's not true

This is OK.

But we can still criticise the hyperbole of it making games run faster, or being a substitute for the PS4's extra shaders.

It doesn't make sense that it won't be available to PC. As long as you're using Windows, MS should be happy about that.

I was hoping to finally hear concrete examples of how a game uses the cloud, but unfortunately "the game is using some server-based stuff" was once again the best explanation they gave.

They're even making fun of how Microsoft and Xbox fans are suddenly all shouting "cloud", even though hardly anyone of them understands what the cloud will actually bring to the table.

the xbone's main advantage is the developers don't have to put in the effort of having a dedicated server.

..and that's something i care about why? what's the consumer advantage?

Did anybody really think that?

How much would it effect procedural generation of maps and AI pathfinding? Could load times be decreased by offloading this type of stuff?

Devs have repeatedly told us so. It's false until proven otherwise though. I don't think anything you listed would better be done in the cloud.

So Titanfall is xbox japanese killer app?
