Asymmetric gameplay seems more like a pain in the ass than a big advantage. Regular multiplayer is usually obtained by duct-taping several times the same single player experience, but to have asymmetric gameplay multiplayer it's required to think and program the gameplay for the GamePad's player from near zero, which takes more time and resources.

We'll see how consumers will react. Competitive and asymmetric multiplayer don't seem to mix well, unless they do something similar to Mario Kart DD. And third parties won't use it (not that it matters much).
