Go through an area and if you don't do it in enough time, have to go through it again, when you finally get through the area you get a mask and you get to do it all over again but continue going through the area until you find out what you're supposed to do the next time. It's not my favorite Zelda game either, but I think you missed the point of this game. You don't ever have to go through the same area twice (to do the same things at least) with two exceptions; getting on top of the Clock Tower and redoing a dungeon if you weren't fast enough. The latter however isn't as bad as it sounds because you always keep the stuff you collected and you have plenty of time if you slow down time (3 hours).
