Exactly. 230 million albums were sold on CD last year.

If people want to go fully digital then good luck to them. I don't care as long as there is an option for both.

Not everyone has access to high speed internet. I don't understand why companies would think it's a good idea to ignore most of the population of this planet.

You're comparing 2 completely different markets. Of course grandma isn't going to go digital only...

Most of the population of the planet ignores gaming. 250 million consoles between the Wii,360 and PS3 not 7 Billion.

And yet Microsoft in all it's wisdom want to constrict their userbase instead of expand it.

That's your response?

We're done here.

It will come down to the games and the experience. If publishers support the x1 with exclusives and they can sell kinect and the tv experience to non gamers than ms could very well have a hit on their hands. Gamers will be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age whether they like it or not.

However, if ms doesnt get the needed support, than it will not top sony. Honestly, ms has done a piss poor job selling the machine and its benefits so far, which makes me think ms isnt the company to get the job done, but you never know...

Wait until MS Marketing machine gets cranking.

Both systems will sell out at launch, no matter what. Should get back to the OP.

@wick
Looking at your profile you live in Australia. I live in the US. CDs are basically extinct around here. In fact I can think of one music store in a 50 mile radius. The big retailers here don't even carry CDs anymore. If you had any sense of reading comprehension you would notice that I have been talking about the US.

@wick
Here is one article out of many. I looked for approximately 5 seconds. CDs are going bye bye. BluRay is next.

In not one of your posts did you mention anything about only talking about the U.S.

Sorry, I didn't realise that was the only market that mattered.

Ok, fair point.

OP: There is merit to this argument (assuming that the cloud talk is legit and not MS jumping on some buzzwords to cover for having a weaker console). But it is going to be about as effective for MS as it was for Sony when they added bluray to the PS3. People will see the increased cost (and in this case the added restrictions) and stay well away. And it isn't like this will help them long term either, as Sony will have time to add in any game sharing or cloud features they think are worth taking from MS while MS struggles with selling the more expensive, less powerful, and "consumer unfriendly" console.

The whole thing is a mixture of bad luck and arrogance. It wouldn't take much to fix the console, but they have dug a very deep hole and it will take a long time to climb back out. It feels very similar to the PS3 situation.
