Who is MS aiming to take out this gen?

Nintendo 30 2.73%

Sony 102 9.29%

themselves? 965 87.89%

Total:1,097

Both of them? No way. Maybe sony and Microsoft together will take Nintendo out of the console business, but no Microsoft by itself.
They started the attack this last gen, buying Rare, making superior motion control, etc.

Explain superior motion controls? By all accounts I've heard from people IRL who've actually messed around with them, both Move and Kinect were kind of "meh". In fact both had their issues, and Kinect especially has been joked about at length for just not working properly a lot of times.

They can if they play smash mouth but they need to be grabbing many exclusives. They would need to be doubling what they got now and showing why their policies are necessary.

However I think people are under estimating their pressence. Ms will not take anyone out but will be very successful.

Now here is an xbox fan who is at least making sense. Besides the necessary part

MS is either going to do really good, or really bad with the One. It could do really good, if it sells as a DVR, and gets casual people to play Dance Central and such more often, but at the same time it could do really bad because they are trying to copy steam, and failing as a DRM.

I'm inclined to say, very bad, but I'm a "hardcore" gamer, I'm biased towards aspects of the One targeted towards gaming.

So what we might see, is a split in the casual audience between the Wii/One, and Sony gets the bulk of "core" gamers. If that happens, I think Sony will come out on top, but I dunno who will do better, the One or WiiU....

Thanks for being level headed in your response Michael-5.  I would like to ask if we can have Xbone treated the same way as calling someone fanboy or the same mannerism as SDF, MDF, NDF as it really is meant to troll or flame the person who is inclined to go for the system.  A person could easily call it X1, XB-1, or XBox-one.  Allowing people to call it Xbone is really letting people troll the console...in all fairness.

But it's a terrible name, and I like to make fun of it. XBone .

Seriously, the name could be the worst aspect of the new X-Box, and I have a feeling, because X-Box is 1 behind the Playstation in numbering, we're always going to see really silly names for the X-Box. I'd rather have them call it X-Box 8, after the Windows 8 OS in it, but I guess in 3-4 years, when the console is mid-life and Windows 9 releases, it would make the system look old.

Nintendo has proven that they have big enough series to survive a gen by themselves. The N64 & GC both sold little but made them money. They won't be taken out like Sega was.

If Microsoft gets a ton of exclusives from 3rd parties, they could change the game by forcing people to buy the XB1 despite their odd policies.

I don't think that will happen though because Sony seems to have pleased the 3rd parties with the PS4.

It's not impossible, people have to remember that the Xbox brand and Microsoft is very strong in America, Sony and the Playstation is not. Microsoft has far more money than Sony to market the Xbox One. And there really isn't anything revolutionary about the PS4, i'm sorry to say. If Microsoft continues to innovate and keep the Xbox One fresh with software updates and new technologies like Kinect, then they will pull ahead atleast in America. If people are willing to look past gaming and are intrigued by the entertainment stuff the X1 offers than it will do well. It can't do any worse than the Wii U.

My prediction is that the PS4 will sell better initially because of the price advantage but the Xbox One will still have moderate success in it's first year. If worse comes to worst and the Xbox One comes out of the gate slow then I would expect a price drop within the first year. But I think it will all work out once people have the consoles in their hands and can fully assess everything.

How do you know people wont say screw it and just stop gaming if that were to happen?

I don't.

My guess is that as time goes on people will stop caring about their policies. It will no longer be a "I won't support XB1 because of consumer rights". It will just be a "I'll buy a PS4 instead because its cheaper". If Microsoft were to get exclusives, people would likely change their minds.

Some may quit gaming or go PC only. I personally just think that the GP really won't care in the end.

Anything is possible.

What I see this different approach consists of is: Higher price point for less powerful hardware, restrictions people aren't used to, making things harder than before to do to get online and do stuff, and making things confusing as how things work.  MAYBE by throwing tons of money around, this can take someone out, but it looks like to me, something that would trip over obe's feet.

Can you state WHAT Microsoft is going to do that is more appealing for customers that they will buy into it?
