Even more bad news for the Xbox One. Microsoft isn’t commenting on whether the system can be sold used right now. This is an odd thing because if it was able to be sold into the second hand market then they would come out and say it.

Xbox Support responded to a fan tweet about reselling an Xbox One like this:

Wow. Things keep getting worse for this console. Hopefully Microsoft stops this discussion and confirms that the console can be re-sold to different people. I’m not sure why a major retailer like GameStop would even stock this console if it makes so many hoops for gamers looking for second hand content to jump through.

Nah, I don't believe that for a second. It would be the first time in history (I think) any consumer electronic device could not be sold / traded / given away once it's been used.

Besides, DRM might be legal (albeit immoral) but I'm pretty sure it would be illegal to prevent people from being able to sell hardware in most countries.

Unless Microsoft makes you sign a long term rental agreement where you accept that the rental contract on the Xbone is non-transferable once an XBL account has been activated on it then buying a Xbone means you can sell it to someone in full working condition.

Long term rental might be not all that bad, if they guarantee to replace a faulty Xbone at no cost for the length of the rental contract.

Also, perhaps if you buy a Xbone through a Cable subsidy arrangement perhaps you are not allowed to sell the Xbone for the minimum duration of the cable contract, which is not unreasonable.

I dont see how they could prevent you from selling your xbox 1 and all games and account to anyone.

We all thought it was impossible that a company was so confident in screwing consumer and that enough consumers became stupid enough to accept that there would be DRM, forced online, a camera in the middle of the living room, no used games, money tied account ban...possible a few years back ?

In fact that's what Microsoft is counting on : enough propaganda in medias and the consumer will maybe be changed into accepting these policies, the same way most people are accepting by innaction to be monitored by PRISM and so on...

They did answer the question, with a no-comment. Not answering the question means not responding at all.

It is odd that something you'd think was a no-brainer had to be initially responded to with a no-comment. But I doubt it'll amount to anything, even under certain circumstances if you are required to keep your console for a minimum period of time eventually you'll be able to sell your Xbone.

I agree this is getting a bit out of hand. Much like the whole "unsupported countries" thing, "no guarantee" and "no information" mean dick all, especially coming from customer support.

How would it be possible? I can sell my console to a friend, he sets up an account once the console is at his house. No way MS could prevent this.
